“Why do you teach Mickey so many tricks?”
Because a clever galah with nothing to do is a galah looking for trouble. 😂
Training isn’t just about teaching cute tricks or making people laugh. Parrots are incredibly intelligent animals and their brains need just as much exercise as their bodies do.
Every time Mickey learns a new trick, practices an old one, or works out what I’m asking him to do, he’s using problem-solving skills, memory, focus, and confidence. It’s great mental stimulation and helps keep that busy galah brain occupied.
Training is also physical exercise. Flying over for a recall, spinning, rolling over, waving, fetching a ball, showing his big wings, and all the other silly things he does get him moving and active throughout the day.
Most importantly, training strengthens our bond. It’s something we enjoy doing together, and Mickey absolutely loves the attention, praise, and showing off what he can do.
So when you see Mickey being a little pink show-off and performing one of his many tricks, remember it’s not just for entertainment. It’s enrichment, exercise, brain work, confidence building, and quality time all rolled into one.
Although let’s be honest… I think Mickey mostly does it because he knows everyone tells him how handsome and clever he is. 🩷😂
