“Why do you teach Mickey so many tricks?”

Because a clever galah with nothing to do is a galah looking for trouble. 😂

Training isn’t just about teaching cute tricks or making people laugh. Parrots are incredibly intelligent animals and their brains need just as much exercise as their bodies do.

Every time Mickey learns a new trick, practices an old one, or works out what I’m asking him to do, he’s using problem-solving skills, memory, focus, and confidence. It’s great mental stimulation and helps keep that busy galah brain occupied.

Training is also physical exercise. Flying over for a recall, spinning, rolling over, waving, fetching a ball, showing his big wings, and all the other silly things he does get him moving and active throughout the day.

Most importantly, training strengthens our bond. It’s something we enjoy doing together, and Mickey absolutely loves the attention, praise, and showing off what he can do.

So when you see Mickey being a little pink show-off and performing one of his many tricks, remember it’s not just for entertainment. It’s enrichment, exercise, brain work, confidence building, and quality time all rolled into one.

Although let’s be honest… I think Mickey mostly does it because he knows everyone tells him how handsome and clever he is. 🩷😂

Spa day for our blind cockatiel 💛

We had our rescue cockatiel Harley a year when we discovered she was losing her sight. She was flying straight up in to the ceiling, hitting walls she knew were there, and missed aim when going for a treat. We are unsure of her age but our avian veterinarian confirmed she was definitely going blind. Not cataracts but because we don’t know her true age or the full extent of her past it could still be age related.

The only history I knew when we got her was she was kept in a bathroom with no toys and I was shocked at how thin she was.
Harley has a bald spot because she is a Lutino. Lutino cockatiels have that bald patch and they can be prone to more health issues. Being a Lutino could also be why her sight is failing. But she now has the best life and loves her shower days .

I get some very strange messages at times but this was a first 😳 straight after I replied he decided to block me. No apology for making a mistake, just blocked, but that’s ok because they saved me the job from blocking them first.
People seem to think I hid Mickey in my luggage 🤣
Please before you jump to anyone’s messenger make sure you get some facts first. Whether it’s pet related or other ask questions before assuming the worst 🤣
