🐾💙 A Special Day for Senior Ozzy! 💙🐾

Meet the lovely Ozzy, one of our wonderful senior patients who recently spent the day with us while we investigated why he had been feeling a little under the weather.

As our pets get older, changes in their health can sometimes be subtle. Signs such as reduced appetite, sleeping more than usual, changes in drinking habits, weight loss, or simply “not quite being themselves” can all indicate that something needs investigating. Early diagnosis is often key to helping our older companions stay comfortable and happy for as long as possible.

Ozzy was an absolute superstar throughout his visit, enjoying plenty of TLC from the team while we carried out the tests needed to help get to the bottom of his symptoms. 🥰

💡 Senior Pet Tip: We recommend regular health checks for older pets, even if they seem well. Routine examinations and screening tests can help detect age-related conditions before they become more serious.

Everyone at Pinebank Vets loved spending the day with Ozzy, and we hope he’s feeling much brighter very soon! ❤️

📞 If you’re concerned about any changes in your pet’s health, don’t wait—give us a call on 01622 755098.

💙🐾 WILSON’S BIG DAY! 🐾💙

Say hello to the handsome Wilson, who recently visited Pinebank Vets for his neutering procedure! 😻

Wilson was an absolute superstar during his stay with us and is now on the road to recovery after his surgery. ✨

Why is neutering important?
🐱 Helps prevent unwanted litters
🐱 Can reduce roaming behaviour and the risk of getting into fights
🐱 Helps lower the risk of certain diseases and health conditions
🐱 Can reduce urine spraying and territorial behaviours in some cats

Neutering is a routine procedure that can have lifelong benefits for your pet’s health and wellbeing. We always recommend discussing the best timing for your pet with your veterinary team.

Wilson certainly stole a few hearts while he was here, and we hope he’s enjoying plenty of cuddles and a well-deserved rest at home! 🥰

🕷️🐱 TICK AWARENESS 🐱🕷️

This handsome boy, Jenson, recently visited Pinebank Vets through our wonderful friends Animal Samaritans for his castration procedure. During his stay with us, our team discovered several ticks attached to his skin and were able to remove them safely. ❤️

Finding ticks during routine procedures is a great reminder of how important it is to regularly check your pets for parasites, especially if they spend time outdoors.

Ticks are small blood-feeding parasites that are commonly picked up from long grass, woodland areas, and gardens. They can be easy to miss beneath your pet’s fur but may cause irritation, infection, and can sometimes transmit disease.

🔍 Be sure to check your pet regularly, paying close attention to:
✔️ Around the ears and face
✔️ Under the collar
✔️ Around the neck
✔️ Between the toes
✔️ Under the armpits

⚠️ Never pull a tick off with your fingers, as parts of the tick can remain in the skin and cause further irritation. If you find a tick and are unsure how to remove it safely, contact your veterinary team for advice.

Prevention is key! Speak to us about parasite prevention options to help protect your pets all year round.

A huge thank you to our friends at Animal Samaritans for the amazing work they do helping animals in need. 🐾❤️

🐾🎧 Tiny Pup, Big Trouble! 🎧🐾

This adorable little face belongs to Ace, who recently visited us and seen here with VCA Ellie after his owners suspected he had swallowed an earphone bud! 😮

Thankfully, Ace’s owners acted incredibly quickly and brought him to us within just 2 hours of it happening — giving us the best possible chance to help him safely. 💙

Foreign object ingestion can be extremely dangerous in pets, especially puppies who love to explore the world with their mouths! Items such as:
• Earbuds & headphones
• Socks
• Toys
• Batteries
• Hair ties & string

can all cause serious blockages or toxicity if swallowed.

⚠️ Signs your pet may have eaten something they shouldn’t:
• Vomiting
• Retching or gagging
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy
• Abdominal pain
• Diarrhoea

In Ace’s case, we were able to safely make him sick before the item could cause further problems — and he was soon back to being his playful self! 🐶✨

A huge well done to Ace’s owners for recognising the risk and seeking veterinary attention straight away 👏 Early action can make all the difference!

📞 If you ever suspect your pet has eaten something unusual, contact your vet immediately — even if they seem completely normal at first.

🧡✂️ Meet Freddie! ✂️🧡

Freddie visited us today for a de-matting procedure after his coat became severely matted. Sadly, the mats had become so tight against his skin that they were causing soreness and discomfort. As you can see from the second photo, the amount of fur removed was quite shocking!

Long-haired pets like Freddie are absolutely beautiful, but their coats need regular maintenance to keep them healthy and comfortable. Mats are not just “knots” — they can pull painfully on the skin, trap dirt and moisture, restrict movement, and even lead to infections underneath the fur. In severe cases, pets can become very distressed and sore before owners even realise there is a problem.

🐾 Top coat care tips for long-haired pets:
• Brush daily or at least several times a week
• Pay close attention to problem areas like behind the ears, under the legs, tummy, and tail
• Start grooming routines from a young age so pets become used to it
• Book regular professional grooming appointments if needed
• If you notice small knots forming, don’t leave them — mats can worsen very quickly!

If you are struggling to keep your pet’s coat under control, please don’t be embarrassed to ask for advice. Our team are always happy to help with grooming guidance and coat care recommendations 💚

Freddie was a very brave boy today and is hopefully feeling much more comfortable now! 🐱
