🐾 Meet Katie G, RVT! 🐾

For our last instalment of RVT Week we have Katie G! Katie joined our team in 2014 as a Client Care Specialist before attending the Veterinary Technician program at Thompson Rivers University and transitioning into her role as an RVT! This past year, Katie was promoted to Practice Manager and now manages our entire clinic! 🐾🐱

✨ Katie says:
🐾 My favourite part of being an RVT is the nursing side of things! Being part of a patient’s recovery, celebrating the little improvements, and building a bond with them along the way is incredibly rewarding. It’s always bittersweet when it’s time to send them home! 💖

🐾 My favourite species to work with is cats! Senior cats will always have a special place in my heart! I love advocating for their comfort and quality of life as they age. There’s something so special about helping them enjoy their golden years and making sure they feel as happy, healthy, and loved as possible! 🐱

🐾 Working with animals has taught me the importance of patience, compassion, and teamwork. Every patient is different, and having a team that shares the same love and dedication makes all the difference. I’m incredibly grateful to work alongside such passionate people who genuinely care about the animals we help every day! 🐱💖

🐾 Meet Julie, RVT! 🐾

Next up for RVT Week is Julie! Julie joined the GAH team in 2018! She graduated from St. Lawrence College in 2011, and began her career in emergency medicine in the ICU at OVC! Julie does part time surgery shifts here at GAH, so you can always find her managing anesthesia in our surgery suites! 🩺🐾

✨ Julie says:
🐾 My favourite part of being an RVT is being a voice for patients, to advocate for their health and to ensure that they have the best care possible! 💖

🐾 My favourite species to work with is dogs, however I recently worked with a Peterbald and have become obsessed with that cat breed since! 🐶🐱

🐾 Something I have learned working with animals is to find calm in the chaos, trust my gut and we are the biggest voice for our patients.

🐾 Meet Stacey, RVT! 🐾

Our next instalment in RVT Week is Stacey! Stacey joined the GAH team in 2010!! She graduated from Georgian college in 2007, and came to GAH a few years later. We are so lucky to have Stacey with us! 🩺🐾

✨ Stacey says:
🐾 My favourite part of being an RVT is the animals. I love working with them and interacting with them. I enjoy trying to support them through stressful procedures as calmly as possible. Practicing my nursing skills is my favourite! 🐱🐶🤍

🐾 It’s impossible for me to narrow down my favourite species and breed to work with. I love working with all different breeds of cats and dogs. I also enjoy pocket pets, rabbits and reptiles! 🐰🦎

🐾 Something I have learned from working with animals is how to adjust my energy to help regulate an anxious patient.

We are so thankful Stacey has been with us all these years! Thank you for all that you do, Stacey! 💖🐾

RVT Week continues with our next RVT, Kait! Kait joined our team in 2024, and has a special interest in anesthesia and pain management. We are so grateful for the knowledge that Kait brings to our clinic! 🩺🐾

🐾 My favourite part of being an RVT is working with animals, caring for them, and being an advocate for their health and well-being!

🐾 My favourite species to work with is definitely cats! I love all cats and their unique personalities! 🐱

🐾 Something I have learned from working with animals with that happiness can be as simple as a good treat and some snuggles 💖

🐾 Meet Pam, RVT! 🐾

Next up for RVT Week is Pam! Pam joined the GAH team in 2024. She came to us with years of experience in emergency and large animal, and quickly became an integral part of the team. Earlier this year, Pam was promoted to RVT Supervisor and currently manages our entire RVT team! 🩺🐾

✨ Pam says:
🐾 My favourite part of being an RVT is being an advocate for every patient and making sure each animal receives the individualized care they deserve. I love that we can be a voice for the patients who can’t speak for themselves, ensuring they are comfortable and recognizing their needs. I love that there is a challenge, which allows me to continually use and grow my knowledge and skills!

🐾 My favourite breed to work with is Golden Retrievers! Though I have loved working with all species, I have a special spot for a Golden. The happy-go-lucky attitude, along with the bias of having two at home, ensures that I will jump at any chance to offer a snuggle in an exam room if a Golden is present 🐶🤍

🐾 Working with animals has taught me that sometimes the most important things aren’t communicated through words. It teaches patience, empathy, and the importance of paying attention to the little things. It is reading the subtle signs, watching the behaviour, and advocating for their needs. It also teaches you that something that works for one patient may not work for the next patient, but ensuring you are meeting each patient with compassion and understanding. 💖

🐾 Meet Abby, RVT! 🐾

Our next RVT of RVT Week is Abby! Abby joined our team in 2024 after graduating from the Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College. Abby also does our social media, which she greatly enjoys! (Let’s pretend I’m not posting this about myself right now 😂)

✨ Abby says:
🐾 My favourite part of being a RVT is being able to advocate and provide a voice for my patients that can’t use their own! I love seeing a case through from start to finish, and being able to give support to your pets. I enjoy anything that involves applying my technical skills, and looking at everything and anything under the microscope! 🔬💖

🐾 My favourite species to work with more so falls under the generalization of… anything senior, small and crusty. The crustier the better! Senior dogs have a special place in my heart, and I will always go above and beyond to provide them (and all patients) with the happiest visit possible! I recently lost my own senior dog, so hold them extra extra close in my heart 🤍

🐾 Working with animals has taught me the true meaning of taking your time and being patient. There is no system that works for each and every pet. You have to approach every visit differently, and take your time to make it a stress free experience. I feel lucky to work at a clinic that takes managing our patient’s stress so seriously! 💖

🐾 Meet Katie O, RVT! 🐾

Our next RVT of RVT Week is Katie O! Katie joined the GAH team in 2023 shortly after graduating the Veterinary Technician program at Georgian College. She provides our patients with unconditional love at every appointment, and we are so lucky to have her with us!

✨ Katie says:
🐾 My favourite part about being a RVT is being able to make a difference in the lives of our patients, who can’t tell us what they’re feeling. Whether it’s helping a sick patient feel better, celebrating a happy and healthy visit, providing comfort when they’re scared, or providing much needed cuddles. Being able to advocate for animals and making a difference to help keep them healthy and happy throughout their lives is incredibly heartwarming and rewarding 💖🐾

🐾 My favourite species to work with are cats - I’m a certified cat lover, having 3 of my own! Specifically, senior kitties hold a very special place in my heart. I love how they grow into their personalities, and helping to keep them comfortable and happy in their golden years is a passion of mine. One day, I would love to open up my very own senior cat sanctuary! 🐱💖

🐾 Working with animals has taught me that love and compassion doesn’t need words to be expressed. Sometimes it’s the smallest gestures! Whether it’s a gentle touch or cuddle, a little extra time and patience, or whatever we can do to help make an animal feel safe can make the biggest difference. It’s taught me the power of kindness and compassion, and how meaningful that can be to our furry friends!

🐾 Meet Grace, RVT! 🐾

Next up for RVT Week we have Grace! Grace started out at GAH as a Veterinary Assistant before graduating from Sheridan’s Veterinary Technician program and becoming a RVT! We are SO happy she made that transition, and are lucky to have her with us!

✨ Grace says:
🐾 My favourite part of being an RVT is getting to work with and learn about different species day to day. I enjoy the variety of skills I get to use every day from anesthesia, radiology, dental work and grooming, to in-clinic patient care, and I love a good blood draw! 🥰
🐾 I love working with all different breeds of cat and dog, and the occasional ferret! But my favourite breed to work with would be any kind of Staffy because they can be such sweet love bugs 💖
🐾 Something I’ve learned from working with animals is understanding and reading patient’s fear and anxiety in the clinic better, learning how to work with them to build trust and comfort them when they’re in clinic. I’m grateful to be on a team that works hard to minimize patient fear and stress!

We are so lucky to have Grace be a part of our team! Thank you for all that you do, Grace! 🐾🩺💙
