Letâs talk about Roscoe.
The first time I met this barking, growling, lunging Rottweiler, I thought: âoh, this is going to be a cool transformation.â Right away it was obvious that Roscoe didnât feel comfortable, and didnât trust his leaders, and his way of dealing with that for the past 5 years was to go forwardâaggressively and seemingly at random. (It wasnât.) Though as a perfessional it was obvious that this was a big, loud, insecure dog, (All bark, no bite.) I could not touch him for our first 4 lessons, and I didnât try to. I joked that he wanted to eat me, but he was a big chicken.
Roscoeâs owners (wonderful, sweet people, eager to learn) were also insecure! They were worried about not being able to learn the skills needed to train him. I told them they would, if they put in the work, because I was going to teach them.
Well guess what? They learned. They put in the effort. And they did a fantastic job. They are now able to go just about wherever they please with Roscoe and know that they can handle him. He went from an extremely uncomfortable, tense, and reactive dog, to a relaxed and confident, obedient companion during our sessions. I told him weâd be friends. Very much looking forward to seeing these guys in the future!!
