My son's wedding reception was this past weekend. It was a wonderful celebration and so much fun. Of course there was a ton of food left over including this delicious fruit salad. There was way more then we could eat so I tossed it into the freezer drier. I've dried fruit many times in the past and it's always great but this is by far my favorite with the mix of fruits. I honestly wish there was more, these jars will be gone in no time.

Just ran a batch of celery in the freezer drier. 6 full quart jars that will be used for soups, stews and so many other things over the year. My celery did beyond amazing this year that I gave away almost half of what was in the garden because there was so much.

I decided to make 3 loaves out of the double batch of sourdough I mixed up yesterday. Cranberry pecan, rosemary thyme and garlic and a regular loaf. I had a few slices of the rosemary thyme and garlic with some of the cabbage soup and it was the best. I'll have some of the cranberry pecan for breakfast in the morning.

Pulled my sourdough starter out of the fridge yesterday and fed it to bake today. Have a double batch of sourdough bread that I'll shape tonight yet to bake in the morning. Now to decide what I'll put into them before I shape it, one will definitely be cranberry pecan but undecided on the other yet. I also made a batch of sourdough pumpkin cream cheese muffins. They are so good! Now to feed my starter for a few days again, I sadly left myself with only 15 grams.

My carrots didn't do well this year on the newer edge of the garden but they are still delicious. I used the last of my cabbage, a leek from the other day and some fresh celery from the garden with the carrots to make a delicious pot of cabbage soup for supper on this chilly gloomy day. Time for another bowl!

Harvested the leeks today, nothing as crazy as the cabbage but still a decent amount with starting them from seeds. I'm really enjoying the extended growing season we've had this year. Still have celery, carrots and beets to go and then clean out the rest of the garden. Did you know that the tops of the leeks can be used for soups or other dishes to add flavor? I have a full gallon bag of tops in the freezer to use for many future meals.

Lions mane, second flush of shiitake and a few of the last of the w**e caps for the year have been sautéed and put into the freezer for future dishes. Hopefully will have a second flush of lions mane and blue oyster in a few days.

55 pounds of green (6 heads) and 11 pounds of purple (4 heads) cabbage! The biggest one was almost 20 pounds and filled all six trays for my freeze dryer with extra left to fry up for supper. I have a full gallon jar of sauerkraut going that took two of the medium heads of green cabbage. I gifted a few heads but still have four more to cut up. I had one head of green cabbage that split really bad and I have to the chickens. I didn't bother adding that one to the total weight of what made it into the house.

Busy busy day today! Pickled the jalapeños and banana peppers, sliced the blue oyster mushrooms I grew to dehydrate, cleaned the loofah gourds I grew, checked on Clyde a few times since he got snipped yesterday and fixed the outer wall of the sheep barn that kicked out this summer from all the wind. Peppers will sit for a bit to pickle. Mushrooms will get jarred up in the morning. Loofah are in vinegar water for the night. Sheep barn is never going to move after a few heavy duty fence posts beat into the ground. Clyde is doing good after yesterday but hasn't wanted to each much today which I get, I'm sure he's extremely sore.

I tried a shiitake tabletop block for the first time and it blew up quicker then I expected. They lacked a bit on light, which was my bad, so they didn't get as dark as they normally should be but the flavor is amazing. I sautéed some up tonight with a bit of onion and sirloin steaks. It was so incredibly delicious!

I also learned first hand what adding insult to injury truly means. I got a blister on my thumb the end of last week from cleaning the sheep barn. The next day while doing more cleaning, I split it wide open. Today I was doing the last of the clean up and managed to split the new healing skin open and then while cleaning the steak knife from supper I cut the same thumb. I'll never learn and may need bubble wrap.
