Quiet mornings and large branches ๐ŸŒฟ

Tarragon the greater kudu and friends enjoyed a big ol' branch for second breakfast this morning โ€” browsing, crunching, and sharing the best bites together, with special mention to the one aoudad, Kemiri, mixed into the crowd.

Whatโ€™s better than one nyala calf?

Two. โค๏ธ

No, theyโ€™re not twins! Our first nyala calf recently got a new playmate, and the pair have been enjoying exploring and growing up together.

National Pigeon Day calls for a bird that's impossible to overlook.

With its delicate crest, striking red eyes, and brilliant blue plumage, this blue-crowned pigeon is a stunning reminder that pigeons come in all shapes and sizes.

Making a guest appearance is one of our Cape thick-knees, who clearly wasn't about to miss out on the spotlight.

While many people think of pigeons as common city birds, some species face threats from habitat loss and hunting in their native ranges. Today we're celebrating the incredible diversity of this often underestimated group of birds.

Happy ! Our research & conservation team has been hard at work collecting data on the wild Western Pond Turtles that occur throughout our property!

๐Ÿข We have captured 19 unique turtles so far, including these two hatchling baby turtles! These babies likely emerged from their terrestrial nests this spring and are now adjusting to the aquatic lifestyle.

๐Ÿ“ These hatchling turtles were less than 1.5 inches long and weighed only 8 grams. We hope to recapture these two in the future and see how much they grow!

๐Ÿข๐ŸฅšThis time of year is our turtle breeding season, so you may see turtles out of water, looking for mates or a place to build a nest. Unless a turtle is in immediate danger (like a busy road or stranded where it canโ€™t escape) it is usually best to leave the turtle alone to not disrupt their breeding efforts! Some females can take several hours to build their nests โฐ

A little grooming session for one of our newest arrivals.

When a nyala mom is close to calving, she is moved to a special nursery pen with barn access. This allows our team to closely monitor the calving process and helps ensure mom stays nearby during those important first days, giving her and her calf time to bond.
