🎉 Adoption Event at Purrgatory! 🎉

Join us Saturday, June 20 from 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM as we help celebrate Purrgatory’s 3-year anniversary! We’ll be bringing adoptable young kittens, plus fosters Jake and Willa, who are currently hanging out at Purrgatory while they wait for their forever homes.

Stay tuned this week as we introduce the kittens that will be joining us for the event! 🐱

Purrgatory will be celebrating all day from 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM, so stop by, support an amazing local business, and maybe even meet your new best friend.

✨ Summer Adoption Special ✨
All adoption fees for cats and kittens are 20% off from June 20 through July 31!

Thinking about adopting? Get pre-approved before the event:
1️⃣ Submit an application at smittensrescue.org/adoption-application
2️⃣ Wait for approval (typically 24-48 hours)
3️⃣ Attend the adoption event or schedule a meet-and-greet

Getting pre-approved does not commit you to adopting and does not commit you to a specific cat. It simply allows you place a hold on a cat or take your new family member home the same day if you fall in love!

🐾 Please note:
Young kittens must be adopted in pairs or go to a home with another young, playful cat.

If you’ve ever wondered what kitten season looks like… it’s this. 🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱🐱

The six kittens in this video were born on a patio couch in San Ysidro to a semi-feral mom who was only about two years old and had already had multiple litters. The FCC Trap Team received a request for help, trapped the family, and the kittens came into foster with Smittens.

Now that they’re safe indoors, thriving, and growing up in foster care, they seem to have decided that their foster’s resident cat is actually their mother. 😂❤️

Stories like this are why rescue matters.

Every year, rescues become overwhelmed with kittens needing help. During kitten season, unspayed cats give birth to litters faster than rescues can place them, creating an enormous need for foster homes, supplies, medical care, and funding.

For every pile of adorable kittens you see here, there is food to supply, vaccines to give, spay/neuter surgeries to schedule, litter boxes to clean, and foster homes working around the clock to keep them healthy and safe to become ready for adoption.

Smittens is currently hosting a Virtual Kitten Shower throughout the month of June, and we’re asking for your help.

Maria has been through more than any kitten should. ❤️

After being rescued with her siblings, Maria tested FeLV positive and had to be separated from them to keep everyone safe. But despite everything she’s been through, she remains one of the sweetest, most affectionate kittens you could ever meet.🥹

Maria is the kind of kitten who wants to be wherever you are. She’ll curl up on your chest, nap beside you under the covers, and purr so loudly you’ll wonder how such a tiny kitten makes so much noise. She’s gentle, playful, great with kids, and absolutely loves being part of the family.

Her foster describes her as an easygoing cuddle bug who adapts beautifully to new environments as long as she has people nearby to love. Whether she’s chasing a wand toy, making biscuits, or settling in for a night of snuggles, Maria is happiest when she’s with her humans.

Maria tested FeLV positive and will be retested in the future. Many FeLV+ cats live happy, comfortable lives full of love, play, and companionship, and right now Maria is thriving. If she remains FeLV positive, she would need to be the only cat in the home, live with other FeLV+ cats, or live with cats who are properly vaccinated and boosted for FeLV and get along with other cats.

If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal best friend who will happily share your bed, your blankets, and your heart, Maria might be your perfect match.🐱

🎉 You’re invited to our Virtual Kitten Shower! 🎉

Throughout the month of June, we’re hosting a virtual Kitten Shower to support the cats and kittens currently in our care and help us get through the busiest time of year in rescue: kitten season.

Kitten season is the time of year when unspayed cats give birth, leading to a huge increase in homeless kittens needing rescue, foster homes, medical care, food, and supplies. Rescues across the country become overwhelmed, and small, volunteer-run rescues like Smittens are no exception.

Every kitten we save relies on donations, foster homes, and supporters like you. From formula and food to vaccines, spay/neuter surgeries, and emergency medical care, the costs add up fast.

This month, we’re asking our community to help us get through kitten season by:

🍼 Donating
🍼 Purchasing items from our wishlists
🍼 Becoming a foster
🍼 Sharing this fundraiser with friends and family

Every dollar donated and every item purchased helps us say “yes” to more cats and kittens in need.

Donation options:
💙 Venmo or PayPal: smittensrescue.org/donate
💙 Zelle: Shots for Spays at (619) 384-7245
💙 DM us for cash donations or other donation options

Please include “Kitten Shower” in the notes whenever possible so we can track donations for this fundraiser.

20 ADOPTIONS THIS WEEKEND! 🎉🐾

A huge thank you to everyone who attended adoption hours this weekend across all of our locations, and an even bigger congratulations to the 20 cats and kittens who found homes of their own!

For a small rescue like us, 20 adoptions in a single weekend is a huge accomplishment. Every adoption creates space for us to save more cats and kittens in need.

To everyone who adopted, thank you for opening your hearts and homes to a rescue cat. We wish you and your new furry family members many happy years together. And to our kitties, we are so excited for your next chapter in your forever homes. ❤️

We also want to thank our incredible volunteer team. From trapping and fostering to transporting, cleaning, answering applications, coordinating adoptions, and caring for cats every single day, none of this would be possible without the dedicated people behind the scenes who work tirelessly to save lives and help cats find loving homes.

1-year-old Chenille came to us through our friends at after being found suffering from severe mange on her face and neck. Thanks to so much love and dedication from our amazing foster coordinator , this sweet girl got the glow-up she truly deserved. 🩷

Chenille may be a little shy at first, but once she feels safe, she turns into such an affectionate and social companion. She loves gentle head scratches, gives sweet little head bonks, and has the cutest quirks — including her short tail and an adorable prancing walk when she gets excited. If she’s especially happy, her tail even poofs up from excitement. 🥹

Because she startles easily, Chenille would do best in a calmer home with older children or adults who will give her the patience and slow introductions she needs to build confidence. She may also do well with another playful cat after thoughtful introductions.

After everything she’s been through, Chenille is finally ready for the cozy indoor life she deserves. 🏡

How to Meet Chenille:
1️⃣ Apply and set an appointment.
2️⃣ Attend adoption hours at PetSmart Mission Valley, Sundays 12–3 p.m.
3️⃣ If you see a Smittens volunteer in the cattery, you can ask to meet Chenille (PetSmart employees are not Smittens volunteers).

How to Adopt:
1️⃣ Visit smittensrescue.org/adoption-application
2️⃣ Wait to hear back from one of our adoption screeners (typically within 24–48 hours)
3️⃣ Once approved, set an appointment or attend adoption hours to meet Chenille

Purrshley was unfortunately returned just one week after being adopted with her sister due to a “lack of bond” with the adopter. ❤️‍🩹

The thing is… Purrshley is simply a shy girl who needs a little time to feel safe. When she was at Petco Escondido, she warmed up to the volunteers as she got comfortable with her environment and the people around her. Once she trusts you, she is incredibly sweet and playful. She also does really well with another kitty buddy. 💕

Sadly, her sister Meowy Kate was quickly re-adopted, leaving Purrshley behind waiting for her second chance.

Gilbert and Willard came to Smittens through FCC as community cats with eye injuries. Since then, they’ve received medical treatment and have blossomed into very sweet cats. Willard especially loves sitting on laps, and Gilbert and Willard adore each other. 🐾 They can often be found helping each other feel safe. Like Purrshley, they can be a bit shy at first and would thrive with patient adopters willing to give them time to adjust.

Shy kitties deserve loving homes too. Not every cat is going to immediately run into your arms on day one, but that doesn’t make them any less worthy of love. ✨

You can read more about all of our adoptable cats at:
smittensrescue.org/cats

You can meet them at .sd , but the best way to meet them is to apply and set up an appointment first. Depending on what’s going on in the store, you may not always be able to meet them face-to-face during regular store visits.

How to Apply
1️⃣ Visit smittensrescue.org/adoption-application
2️⃣ Wait to hear back from an adoption screener (typically within 24–48 hours)
3️⃣ Set up an appointment to meet them at Purrgatory

Snap Pea is only 1 year old and somehow still waiting for someone to choose her 🥺

She came to Smittens with four kittens and spent months being the best mom to them. Now her babies have been adopted, and Snap Pea is still waiting for her own forever home.

🥰She’s an easygoing, observant girl who loves pets, attention, cozy spots, and being part of whatever you’re doing. She has a playful side too, but overall she’s just a calm, sweet presence to have around.

Snap Pea can coexist with other cats, but she appreciates slow introductions and respectful boundaries while she settles in.

After taking care of everyone else, it’s finally her turn to be cared for 🤍

Come meet Snap Pea at PetSmart Sports Arena.

How to Meet:
1️⃣ Apply and set an appointment.
2️⃣ Attend adoption hours at PetSmart Sports Arena, Saturdays 2–4 p.m.
3️⃣ If you see a Smittens volunteer in the cattery, you can ask to meet Snap Pea (PetSmart employees are not Smittens volunteers).

How to Adopt:

2️⃣ Wait to hear back from an adoption screener within 24–48 hours

Swipe to watch Tisane grow up 🥹

Chai and her kittens were rescued from Mexico when the babies were only about a week old. Chai was underweight and struggling to survive, but after months of safety, love, and care, they’re now safe and ready for forever homes 🤍 Most of the kittens have already been adopted, one is still recovering from neuter surgery, and little Tisane is currently at PetSmart Clairemont with her mom, Chai. While they’re together right now, they do not need to be adopted together.

Chai (4 years old) is the sweetest, most affectionate girl who absolutely loves being around people. She’ll happily keep you company, chat with you throughout the day, lounge nearby while you watch TV, and soak up all the pets and attention she can get. After everything she’s been through, she deserves a calm home where she can finally just be loved and cared for.

Tisane (2 months old) has grown into the most playful, adventurous little kitten. She loves climbing, zooming around with toys, wrestling with kitty friends, and curling up with her mom after a long day of causing chaos. Her tiny white chest patch and fluffy little ear hairs make her even more adorable 🥹 She would thrive in a home with another playful kitty companion.

Both are currently at PetSmart Clairemont.

How to Adopt:
1️⃣ Apply at smittensrescue.org/adoption-application
2️⃣ Wait to hear back from an adoption screener (24–48 hours)
3️⃣ Set an appointment or attend adoption hours at PetSmart Clairemont, Sundays 12–3 p.m.
