All tucked in and crossing our paws we get adopted during Clear the Shelters tomorrow!

Join us tomorrow (Friday August 1st) between 8am and midnight to help every last pet in the shelter get adopted ❤️ All adoption fees will be WAIVED, and our team will be staying late into the night to give these guys the best chance at finding a home.

Walk-ins are welcome but if you know for sure that you want to adopt, we suggest getting a head start by filling out an adoption survey at spcawake.org/cts 🐾 You can make an appointment for a specific pet or to get set up with us to adopt in general!

Please help send some good luck to all the hopeful fur babies tonight! 🤞

Tiana's smile is this big because she has no idea that all three of her pending adoptions have fallen through 🥺🥺🥺

They must not have realized:
🌸 Tiana's smile is one in a million
🌸 Her fur is *literal* velvet
🌸 She has wrinkles that rival your gam-gam's
🌸 And she's clearly a Disney princess

Tiana (7 months old) deserves the world, and we're hopeful her luck is about to change—because tomorrow, Friday August 1st is Clear the Shelters! All adoption fees will be WAIVED, and we are open for extended hours (8am to midnight)! We know there's a family out there looking to add a gorgeous, good-natured, velvety girl to their home 💗

Oink is an innovator. While most of us are surviving summer by enjoying the air-conditioning and eating ice cream, Oink is beating the heat by being nakey. Good job Oink.

You may be asking why. Oink was covered in mats—but luckily he doesn’t mind medical handling. He just makes biscuits and gives elevator butt the whole time. He is a beautiful naked man, and he is nothing if not a good sport.

Don't forget! 🚨 Friday, August 1st is Clear the Shelters! All adoption fees are WAIVED here at SPCA Wake, and we are open for extended hours (8am to midnight)! It’s the perfect time to bring an unclothed, scrungly Oink home—maybe, just maybe, with enough emotional support from his people, he’ll decide to put clothes on again.

What’s orange, stares at you unblinkingly, and may or may not have been born with the consciousness of a goldfish? It’s Rumby.

Rumby was found on the highway. Why, you may ask? Because he’s Rumby.

Rumby climbs on top of his carrier just to yeet himself off of it. Rumby knocks all the food out of his bowl and then takes a nap inside of it. Rumby licks you and then proceeds to scream at you for letting him do such a thing. It’s the Rumby way.

Rumby is about the size of a tennis ball, so he still has some growing to do before he’s ready for adoption. If "no thoughts, just vibes" is your type of cat, keep an eye out at spcawake.org/cats 🐱

If you missed out on helping us name Beanie Baby, our kitten with only one toe bean, or if your favorite name wasn't chosen - this is your second chance.

We need help finding the PERFECT name for another kitty, but this time there are several extra toe beans 🫘 We asked her if she'd share some with Beanie Baby and she said no. How rude.

Drop your name suggestions below! In the meantime, we will just be snuggling this many-toed wonder.

They appeared without warning. Snouts. Teeth. Fins. And an insatiable appetite for chaos and kibble.

We consulted marine biologists, animal behaviorists, and one guy who watched "Jaws" way too many times. All concluded the same thing: these are no ordinary pets. These are land sharks. 🦈 🦈 🦈

Cuddly? Maybe. Menacing? Only to your heart and willpower. hasn't only come to Discovery- it has also infested the SPCA of Wake County and only adoption can restore balance to our shelter waters.

Be brave. Be bold. Bring home a shark.

Please help us name this kitten with only one toe bean! It's gotta be something good! 😍

While you all deliberate, we'll be cuddling the heck out of her and singing "Toe Beans" to the tune of Jolene 🫘

13 years old. Blind. Lost and alone.

When Denim arrived at the shelter as a stray, our hearts broke for him. Elderly dogs like Denim always tug a little harder at our heartstrings - we want their final chapter to be written in the comfort of a loving home, not in a shelter kennel.

Thankfully, Denim’s family was already out there. A 92-year-old man had been searching for him ever since a broken screen door led the blind pup to toddle off on his own. These two had spent over a decade together, sleeping side by side every night. Thanks to a little teamwork and a lot of hope, we were able to reunite them. The moment was as sweet as you’d imagine.

Unfortunately, not every senior dog has someone searching for them so it’s up to us to help them find loving families. That’s why we’re beyond thrilled to announce a new partnership with The Grey Muzzle Organization! Thanks to a generous grant, we’ll be waiving adoption fees for ALL senior dogs (age 7+) for an entire year! The grant also creates a dedicated medical fund to cover veterinary care for senior dogs while they await adoption ❤️

Because every senior deserves a soft bed, a warm hand, and someone to love them.

Granville EMS called us yesterday about a kitten they found while responding to an emergency. When the ambulance pulled up, over a dozen cats scattered away, except for one little kitten laying on the hot driveway, not moving.

It quickly became apparent that EMS had grabbed him just in the nick of time.

We named him Lance (short for ambulance), and he turned out to have a million scary things going wrong. He was cold, malnourished, underweight, covered in live fleas, anemic, and dehydrated— with a respiratory infection and a bunch of broken teeth to boot.

Our team moved quickly to give Lance supportive fluids, medication and nutrients, and we bundled him inside an incubator to get his temperature back up. In all this time, he didn't lift his head once. We weren't sure if he would make it through the night.

But we're back this morning with hopeful hearts and good news—not only did Lance make it last night, he's showing big signs of improvement this morning. He's vocal, mobile, and even showing some s***k!

When time-sensitive emergencies like this happen, we absolutely must have the resources already in place in order to act. Because of your generous support, we were able to move quickly and save this little guy's life. Huge special thank you to the heroes at Granville County Government EMS for recognizing this emergency and going out of their way to give Lance a chance. He is alive today because of ALL of you 🧡

GREAT news for NC pets — Gov. Josh Stein VETOED House Bill 96 today 🙌

House Bill 96's pet shop provision would have made it impossible for local governments, like the City of Raleigh, from taking any new measures to regulate or prevent the sale of puppies within their jurisdictions. Retail puppy sales have always been problematic, and they fly in the face of our state’s animal welfare crisis, where 1 in 4 pets that enter NC animal shelters are euthanized. The last thing we need is a pipeline of more homeless puppies, especially one that leaves a heartbreaking trail of cruelty and neglect in its wake.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to call our state governor and legislators to advocate for North Carolina pets and the future of animal welfare in our community!

Deaf, sunburned ears, missing teeth, and a quarter-sized wound on his rump. We see a lot of interesting medical cases but this combo might be a first.

Xaden was moseying down the street, purring as he went, when a kind stranger noticed he needed help. His ears were crusty and red from the heat and an abscess on his backside had started to open, leaving a painful-looking wound.

Thankfully, Xaden’s favorite activity is shoving his face into human hands with the force of a rhino, so he was easily scooped up and brought to one of our partner shelters before making his way to us. Now he's here, getting both the medical care he needs and the nonstop affection he demands. He was likely born deaf, and his sunburned ears and missing teeth are signs of a tough life out in the elements. As for his butt wound… well, your guess is as good as ours.

The good news is, it’s healing well — and Xaden is far too busy prancing, purring, and head-butting everyone to pay it any mind. He’s still got a little recovering to do before he’ll be ready for a forever home, but one thing’s certain: if this charming guy could talk, he’d have some wild stories to tell.
