Father John's Animal House A 501(c)(3) no-kill cat and dog shelter located in Sussex County, NJ. Since 1999. It was decided to tear down the entire shelter and rebuild it.

Father John’s Animal House was founded in 1999, by a small and very dedicated group of people that recognized a great need in our community to help homeless and otherwise unwanted pets. The land and facility was acquired through a few large donations and the shelter was immediately able to start placing animals into loving adoptive homes. The land was originally owned by Father John, a retired mem

ber of the clergy, who took exceedingly good care of his livestock. The shelter was named after him to honor his dedication to the welfare of animals. As the years went by, the maintenance of the facility was becoming more and more difficult. A large fund drive and challenge grant funded the project, and the shelter was rebuilt in 2012. State of the art features have been incorporated, including floors that are impervious to liquid soaking in, ventilation systems to reduce airborne pathogens and illness, and sound absorbing panels, which reduce barking dog noise. Room layout was designed for the comfort and care of the animals, including free-roaming cat rooms and indoor kennel runs for the dogs. The shelter now has the capacity to safely and responsibly place over 500 animals each year. Each animal is fully vetted, spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to leaving for their adoptive home. Our shelter personnel work hard to match each adoptive family with the perfect animal to become their lifelong pet. Our overall mission is not only to place animals into loving homes but to promote spay and neuter to alleviate the problem of homeless animals and overcrowded shelters. We value the bond people have with animals and strive to give each homeless animal a family that will love and care for it for a lifetime.

What a heartwarming week at the shelter! We had so many great dog and cat adoptions 😊🐾🏡

Dog Adoptions: Our sweet Petrie found her perfect match and is off to enjoy life with her new little human brother, so much fun awaits! Elon, our certified good boy, has found his forever home where we know he’s thriving. Rebel, always making us laugh with his "rebel yell," now has a doggy sibling to play with and keep the good times rolling. Our shy girl, who waited ever so patiently for her chance, finally went home, with a brother who’s also a Father John’s alum! Cleo, the kindest soul, will surely fill her new home with love. We can’t forget the puppies! We had Rosie, Paddy, Prince, and Phil all go to their forever homes, ready to bring joy and puppy kisses. Congratulations to all of our pups and their new families! ❤️🐕

Cat Adoptions: Our feline friends had an amazing week too! Little Virgo, one of our adorable kittens, was adopted by one of our very own staff members, we’re thrilled she’s staying in the family and we can’t wait for all the updates. Kittens Jose, Jazz, Lyric, Padmae, and Honor also found their forever homes, ready to fill their new families’ lives with purrs and playful energy. We’re especially happy for Sharon Rose, our only adult cat adoption this week, this sweet social butterfly has gone into the perfect home. Cheers to new beginnings and cozy cat cuddles ahead! 🐱💕

Meet Sky! 😍 This beautiful, one-year-old girl made her way all the way from Virginia in search of her forever home! At around 45lbs, Sky is the perfect size for adventure and snuggles!

She LOVES everyone she meets, both humans and dogs alike. With her friendly spirit and playful energy, she’s sure to brighten any home!

Dog Adoptions! 🐶

What an incredible time for our pups! Dragon found her forever home with a human sibling to play with, so much fun ahead! Our happy boy Socket was adopted too, and we’ll miss his energy here at the shelter. Little Tony went home and is surely keeping his new family laughing, while sweet Robin, our beloved velcro dog, has found his perfect match. Puppies Mickey and Minnie went home, but their wonderful mom Disney is still waiting to meet her forever family. Liberty got adopted, and her sister is still here hoping to follow in her footsteps. Tilly, one of the sweetest girls with so many shelter friends, also found her home. And Scooter was adopted too, his adorable brother Theo is still available and ready to bring love to a new home!

Cat Adoptions! 🐱

We are bursting with joy after so many fantastic feline adoptions! Our amazing cats Edmund, Darla, Ester, Maisie, Betsy, Buster, and Cedar all found their forever homes. And the kitten adoptions? Absolutely incredible! We waved goodbye to Cancer, Aquarius, Gnocchi, Tortellini, Stones, Pete, Beavis, Mouse, Aries, Mabel, Peanut Butter, Caramel, Ta**us, Holly, Alvin, Dina, Whoopi Goldberg, Toody, Simon, Cutie, Hawthorne, Miley Cyrus, Theodora, Jordan, Bob Marley, and Bear Jr.

So many happy tails this week, we're so grateful to everyone who opened their hearts and homes! 🏡🐾🫶🏻
