Father John's Animal House

Father John's Animal House A 501(c)(3) no-kill cat and dog shelter located in Sussex County, NJ. Since 1999. It was decided to tear down the entire shelter and rebuild it.

Father John’s Animal House was founded in 1999, by a small and very dedicated group of people that recognized a great need in our community to help homeless and otherwise unwanted pets. The land and facility was acquired through a few large donations and the shelter was immediately able to start placing animals into loving adoptive homes. The land was originally owned by Father John, a retired mem

ber of the clergy, who took exceedingly good care of his livestock. The shelter was named after him to honor his dedication to the welfare of animals. As the years went by, the maintenance of the facility was becoming more and more difficult. A large fund drive and challenge grant funded the project, and the shelter was rebuilt in 2012. State of the art features have been incorporated, including floors that are impervious to liquid soaking in, ventilation systems to reduce airborne pathogens and illness, and sound absorbing panels, which reduce barking dog noise. Room layout was designed for the comfort and care of the animals, including free-roaming cat rooms and indoor kennel runs for the dogs. The shelter now has the capacity to safely and responsibly place over 500 animals each year. Each animal is fully vetted, spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to leaving for their adoptive home. Our shelter personnel work hard to match each adoptive family with the perfect animal to become their lifelong pet. Our overall mission is not only to place animals into loving homes but to promote spay and neuter to alleviate the problem of homeless animals and overcrowded shelters. We value the bond people have with animals and strive to give each homeless animal a family that will love and care for it for a lifetime.

Yes, it’s kitten season, and while we’ve had plenty of adorable kitten adoptions, we can’t forget about our amazing adult cats who are more than ready for a fresh start of their own! 🥹

Each of these cats comes from a unique background and different circumstances, but what they all have in common is that they deserve a cozy place to call home. 🤍🏡

🐾 Meet Big Boy, Middle, & Little Girl! 🐾

These three adorable one-year-olds grew up together and have spent their lives sharing the same room, but they’re each ready to find a family of their very own. 💕

They can be a little shy when meeting new people, but with patience, understanding, and a little time, their sweet personalities begin to shine. One of their favorite things to do is burrow under cozy blankets, creating the perfect little hiding spot where they feel safe and secure. 🥹🧸

Each has their own special charm. Middle absolutely loves head scratches and will happily lean in for more once he gets comfortable. Little Girl is a huge fan of Churu treats and knows they’re the fastest way to her heart! ❤️ Big Boy is a gentle soul who just needs a little time to settle in and show you how wonderful he is.

They’re looking for patient adopters who will let them move at their own pace and discover what it means to have a forever home. Watching a shy cat learn to trust is one of the most rewarding experiences!
Could Big Boy, Middle, or Little Girl be the perfect addition to your family?

Meet Squirtle! 💕🧶🐱This sweet young mama came to us with her kittens after being rescued from a property where cats were being dumped. After lovingly raising not only her own babies but also a second litter of bottle babies, Squirtle is finally ready for a home of her own!

She can be a little shy at first, but with patience she’ll show you just how affectionate she is. Squirtle would love a home with other cat friends and a family ready to give her all the love she deserves! 🥹

Of course we have black lab puppies...👀😉

This handsome guy may not be a puppy anymore, but at 9 years old, Guinness still has plenty of pep in his step! (That’s 108 months old if we’re being technical 😆.)

Guinness came to us from a shelter in New York and weighs about 83 pounds. He loves going for walks, enjoys stretching his legs in the yard, and walks nicely on a leash. One of his favorite things? Meeting new people and soaking up all the attention he can get! 🥹

This sweet senior has been with us far too long, and we truly can’t figure out why. He’s got so much love left to give and is ready to find a family to spend his golden years with. Maybe he’s been waiting for you all along! ❤️

Think Guinness might be the perfect fit for your home? Fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.fatherjohns.org/adopt and come meet this wonderful gentleman! 🐶🏡✨
