💕 Foster Friday: Leann & Brownie
Leann and her filthy cage were abandoned in a public park. The entire incident was witnessed by a
compassionate stranger who wasn’t familiar with guinea pig care but knew she shouldn’t be left
there alone. He took her home, bought guinea pig pellets and hay, and reached out to KGPR.
Although we were over 3 hours away, he made the drive to ensure she would be well cared for. It
was immediately obvious that Leann had a sweet and loving personality, and she quickly felt safe
with her foster mom.
Brownie and his brother were purchased as pets for two very young children. The family was
incorrectly told by pet store employees that guinea pigs make easy first pets. They soon realized
they were unable to provide the care guinea pigs require and began searching for a new home for
them. KGPR was happy to help.
Brownie was bullied by his brother, so for his well-being they were separated and Brownie was
neutered. During his recovery period, he shared a cage with an older spayed female and learned
good piggy manners.
When Leann and Brownie met, it was obvious they were a perfect match. Brownie needed a friend
who was outgoing and people friendly. While he is still a little shy, he grows more confident every
day with Leann’s help

Sometimes piggies decide for us. ❤️
This adopter originally came to find one friend for her existing guinea pig… but after watching Beth, Fluffy, and their new friend, Summer, continually snuggle up together, she just couldn’t separate them.
So instead of one lucky piggy finding a home that day, TWO girls went home together. 🐹🐹
We love when adopters let friendships lead the way. Wishing Beth and Fluffy many happy years of cuddles, snacks, and wheeks in their wonderful new home!

🎉 Two Happy Adoption Updates to Celebrate! 🎉

We’re excited to share that Patsy has found a wonderful home as a new buddy for an existing guinea pig! 💕 Patsy’s gentle personality and experience living in a group made her the perfect match, and we’re thrilled she now has a new piggy friend to spend her days with.

And another big congratulations to Snoop Dogg & Scooby Doo, who were adopted together! 🐹🐹 These two best buddies are heading off to start their next adventure side by side — exactly how we hoped.

Thank you to the amazing adopters who chose rescue guinea pigs and opened their hearts and homes to them. Every adoption makes room for us to help more piggies in need. ❤️

💙 Foster Friday: Marty 💙

Marty’s story is a reminder of why rescue matters.

For the first several months of his life, Marty lived confined to a small box in the back room of a big box pet store. He was too sick to be placed up for sale. The store attempted treatment with the help of their Vet, but when his unusual head movements did not improve, discussions turned toward euthanasia. Thankfully, a kind employee stepped in and rescued him. 💕

Marty is currently being treated for a severe inner ear infection. In these videos, you may notice unusual head movements and balance changes.

The wonderful news is that Marty is already showing improvement with medication and supportive care. His movements and head tilt were much more prominent when he first arrived. 🩺💙

Guinea pigs are very good at hiding illness, so subtle changes in behavior can be important warning signs. Odd head movements, balance issues, circling, head tilting, reduced appetite, or acting quieter than normal can all signal that a guinea pig needs veterinary attention.

In June 2001, founder Janet A. realized there was a need for a safe haven dedicated specifically to guinea pigs after fostering for local shelters. That vision became reality when Knoxville Guinea Pig Rescue was founded.

Today, KGPR celebrates 25 consecutive years of rescue — making us the oldest guinea pig rescue in Tennessee and one of the oldest in the nation. For 25 years, we’ve provided medical care, safety, rehabilitation, and love to guinea pigs in need.
