It's tick season!!! 😱 Are your animals up to date on their flea and tick prevention?
Technically, it is tick season any time the temperature is 40 degrees or above, believe it or not!
This is Ava. Over Memorial Weekend, her parents took her for some photos by the creek, and her mom found 3 teeny tiny ticks on her the next day! However, all three were dead because she is up to date on her preventions, and they were doing their job! So those nasty ticks didn't get a chance to eat!
There are around TWENTY different diseases ticks can transmit to animals and humans! Without prevention, your pet can carry ticks indoors where they even latch onto you, too!
If you ever find a latched tick on your pet, we recommend removing it as quickly as possible by either calling us to set up a tech appointment to remove it or you can remove it at home. When removing it, it is very important to ensure the whole tick is removed as if the head were to remain buried in the skin still, it can lead to further issues. If you pull off a tick, check to see if a skin plug (a very small piece of your pet's skin) comes with it as it will guarantee the whole tick was removed.
