Does Your Dog Have the Back-to-School Blues?

Back-to-school time means not only a change in routine for you and your kids but also for your dog. Does your dog seem sad or even a little depressed now that school is starting? Dogs love routine - it makes them feel secure. These next few weeks will mean big changes in routine. The kids have been around all summer playing with the dog and giving him extra love but now he will find himself alone all day and bored. Help your dog adjust to the new school time routine with these few easy tips:

🐾Make sure your dog gets physical exercise before everyone leaves for the day. Having him play with (and perhaps even eat his breakfast from) interactive toys while you are getting ready in the morning is a great way to give him mental exercise too.

🐾Keep your departures low key.

🐾Give your dog something to do while you're gone. Stuff and freeze a Kong, Twist 'n Treat, Tux, or Tizzy and make this a special treat that he only gets when you leave so he'll look forward to your departure.

🐾Be ready to walk your dog or play when you get home to provide some much-needed exercise and attention.

All these things will help make the transition easier for you and your dog. 🐶

Congratulations to the dog and handler teams that graduated from Rally 1 on Wednesday in Pewaukee! Each week you came to class ready to learn new skills and to meet the challenges of the courses we designed. It was fun to see the partnerships you have with your dogs and how they strengthened over the six weeks of class. You really impressed us! We also had some good laughs when the zoomies showed up. We really enjoyed having you all in class and hope to see you again! 🐾

There are two spots available in the Rocket Recall class that starts Thursday, August 28th at 7:40pm in Hartland. Does your dog ignore you when you call them? Having a solid recall is always important and helpful, but it can literally be a lifesaver in emergency situations. This may only be a four-week class but it will give you skills that will last your dog’s lifetime if you continue to practice…and keep it FUN!

Congratulations to the teams who graduated from Focus and Control class in Hartland Wednesday evening. They did an amazing job, over the course of six weeks, ensuring that their dogs felt safe, comfortable and under threshold. The progress each of these teams demonstrated was fantastic to witness. 🐾Exclusive ~ One Spot Just Became Available in Tonight’s Basic Manners🐾

One spot just became available in the Basic Manners class that begins tonight (Monday, August 18th) at 7:40pm in our Hartland location. Basic Manners is an 8-week course that is designed for dogs older than 16 weeks of age. Basic Manners coaches you to teach your dog the basic skills that will enable you to have a happy household as well as a happy dog. This course covers basic cues including Sit, Down, Come, Stay, Leave It, Drop It, Wait at the Door, and walking nicely on leash without pulling. Boundary training, impulse control and problem solving are also introduced. For those of you who have taken Puppy Kindergarten, Basic Manners class adds distance and more distractions. If you have not previously taken Puppy Kindergarten, this class is a good starting point for your training. Come and build a better relationship with your dog!

These incredible pups and their amazing handlers just wrapped up eight weeks of teamwork, training, and tail wags! Through fun games, consistent practice, and plenty of treats (and laughs!), these teams built stronger bonds and developed valuable skills to help their pups thrive as well-mannered family members. Can you believe it’s almost back to school time for the kids? How time flies! Now is a great time to take your dog back to class too. We don't want to "overbook" our dogs any more than we want to over-schedule our own lives, but it is good to provide fun activities for our dogs and to brush up on some of their basic skills and even take them to the next level. We believe in positive, motivational training methods, which have been scientifically tested to show great results. We use a reward-based training approach that makes the learning experience fun for the dog and will ensure that your dog will put his "best paw forward", listening to and following your cues. We keep our classes fun for both dogs and guardians while learning in a friendly, positive environment. No pain, no force, no fear.

Best Paw Forward celebrated its 15th anniversary in the dog training business in 2017.
