Situated on over 30 acres in the heart of Great Falls, Great Falls Equestrian is a multi-discipline equestrian facility offering top notch training for riders of all levels, and premium care for their horses. Longtime Great Falls residents and horse community standard bearers Sharon and Harry Huber are handing the reins of the facility on Arnon Chapel Road (formerly operated as Deerfield Farm, Gre

at Falls Horse Center, and most recently as the Hubers' Stoneridge Farm) to a new team with Great Falls Equestrian. Wendy Masemer; a top level eventer, lifelong Great Falls inhabitant, and former student of the Hubers; and Lauren Dearlove; a successful trainer specializing in young horses, and formerly a beloved instructor with Great Falls Pony Club; will be taking over and are excited to carry on the long standing tradition of training young riders and fostering a love of horses in the next generation. Wendy and Lauren have a deep background in the hunter, eventing, and dressage worlds, and are proudly welcoming riders of all disciplines and levels to come train with Great Falls Equestrian. They hope to give riders a chance to experience different types of riding and competitions, and to help riders find their passion and pursue their callings.

Two VGBs! Bird and Flirt, very good boys, managed the combined GFE madness and inevitable hunter ring chaos at Turner Farm Events beautifully. Frankly, these two manage anything we throw at them admirably, be it a hunter show, starter trial, cross derby, trail ride, you name it. Perfect examples of why we love a thoroughbred; they do it all with us! Thanks to for the amazing photos❤️

Shout out to Karli for giving this month’s unmounted lesson yesterday on horse show preparation! From a squeaky clean horse to sparkling, conditioned tack; presentation matters. We love turning riding students into horse people.

Despite the spotty weather, Wendy and Clarence had a stellar day out at Loudoun Hunt Pony Club’s Spring Horse Trials at Morven Park International Equestrian Center! The duo came in 3rd in a large, very competitive Training Horse division. Clarence is DIGGING life as an eventer, Emily Zentz is of course the most fun and supportive owner to be riding for, and we can’t wait to see what Team CB has in store for the rest of the season. Thanks Hannah Foreman Photos and Erin Gilmore Photography for the amazing shot!

We have officially survived our first hunter show of 2024! Great day at our hometown fave, Turner Farm: Amelia and Pilot had a fab first outing in the hunter ring, Champion in Schooling and Reserve in Children’s; Mila and Wilson also had a great first show together, good ribbons in low and pleasure; Abby worked hard and did admirably with her and JJ’s first hunter effort; Bella did fantastically at her first show with Dee, winning one of their Low O/F rounds in a class of 14; Phoebe and Happy were back to business taking Champion in Pony Hunter and Pony Pleasure; Gia moved up to Low Hunter on Gracie and had some great rounds and ribbons; Layla and Sienna both did a great job showing Vegas for the first time, who was happy to be back in the hunter ring; Judy and Casey had a killer Short Stirrup day and were Champion in SS Eq; Savannah had a really great first show with Suzy; Evie put in some amazing hunter rounds with eventer pony Casper; Elizabeth proved she’s a tough cookie with Brooks; and Jack had a memorable meltdown in leadline we’re still giggling about. If you’ve read all the way to here, you too deserve the fancy coffee and mimosas we feel we’ve earned after yesterday. Treat culture forever!

Huge thank you to Lara McPherson for coming out to teach our April unmounted lesson and share her invaluable knowledge! Lara taught our students about what judges are looking for in the hunter ring, and even judged a flat class for our students so they could watch her in action. We’re already seeing some of the lessons and takeaways our students got in action, and excited to see them put that knowledge to even better use this Sunday!

We’re back, baby! Sunday, we took nine horses and riders to the first MDHT Highland Series Horse Trial out at Loch Moy Farm and we are so happy to be back out eventing with the whole crew. Lots of great rides and learning experiences: Emmett and Hazelnut, and Gudrun and Thuggie each won their Starter divisions; Phoebe and Happy placed 2nd, Charlotte and Felix took 4th, and Caitlan and Carl were 7th; Bridget and Gracie won their dressage phase; resident DQ Katie took hunter machine Vegas around her first horse trials for a 5th; Karli took baby Flirt around his first horse trials for a 6th; and Wendy took baby Piper around Beginner Novice for a 5th, with a particularly stellar show jumping phase. Always grateful for the opportunities The Maryland Horse Trials provides, next week we switch gears and head back to the hunter ring at Turner Farm. And thanks as always to Erin Gilmore Photography and her team for all the amazing photos!

Yesterday, we attended the Alicia Spence Memorial Dressage Schooling Show at Turner Farm with a big crew. It was a beautiful day to celebrate a beautiful life and support a great cause; we took full advantage of our favorite venue, knocking the rust off our dressage tests and then getting to school on the cross country course. Several new pairs’ first time off the farm together, baby Penny’s first show and time going cross country, and so many fantastic rides. Man, we love spring!
