URGENT: PLEASE OPEN YOUR HOME 🏡 AND HEART ❤️ THIS THANKSGIVING 🦃 TO SWEET SENIOR HOLLY!

Holly is a beautiful sugar faced purebred Vizsla who has enjoyed a loved life with one family for 10 years. Due to a health tragedy, Holly’s family has had to return to Hungary. A kind friend has been caring for Holly but she works long days and poor Holly is in a dirt backyard alone 24/7 without the companionship, fun or exercise she desperately needs. Holly is a people dog: she has a sweet nature and is welcoming to everyone including children. She loves to play but also needs lots of Velcro cuddling, and of course her beauty naps, being a senior lady. She used to go to dog parks with her owner so she should do fine with other gentle dogs in the home or she would also be happy as a single dog with her people. She pulls on leash so she is not walked currently but a front hooking harness should fix that; she sometimes jumps excited to greet people but she’s very well behaved so just needs gentle “off” commands. Holly had past surgery on her ears so she cannot fly in a plane and she prefers not to have her ears rubbed (we are having her ears checked). She is in good health and up to date with shots; vet records will be provided.

WE URGENTLY NEED AN IMMEDIATE ADOPTOR OR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT HOME FOR SWEET HOLLY SO SHE HAS THE LOVE, PEACE, AND FUN SHE DESERVES FOR HER GOLDEN YEARS. Contact Santa Barbara Vizsla Lovers Rescue Coordinator Christine at [email protected] or 805-680-6524. Holly is currently in Woodland Hills, Southern CA.

COURTESY POST:

ROCKET NEEDS TO DOCK AT A NEW SPACE STATION! Rocket will be 5 in August, a neutered male purebred Vizsla who has been loyal to his family his whole life. Rocket is always ready for an adventure: hiking, running, walking, swimming! He trained with his mom who ran marathons and he always loved his Viz Whizz group outings. He knows all his basic commands, is crate trained (his safe haven when things get too busy), stays behind a gate when needed, and is good on a leash (won’t bark at other dogs). He’s great in the car, and on good behavior at the kennel for daycare or when his family vacations. He loves to play with other dogs but does best with females. Tragically, his mom has had two serious health challenges and, with 3 children, the family is no longer able to handle Rocket’s active nature and exercise needs. Rocket will be happier in a new home as he has been stressed and life isn’t as fun anymore. Rocket needs: an active yet peaceful home with singles, couple or family with teens (no young children) who can meet Rocket’s exercise and fun needs, who appreciate all his wonderful traits and calmly work with positive reinforcement training on things that make him anxious: lots of strangers coming and going or parties (he likes his quiet crate with a chew at these times), someone flopping or looming over him, or being disturbed when resting in his spot. Rocket would do best either as an only dog or with female dogs in the home and he has not been tested with cats; some land or a big yard would be great, a rural or low population neighborhood, and of course fun exercise. His current family loves Rocket and wants him to succeed in his new home, so they are kindly paying for a helpful transition consultation with respected Academy for Dog Trainers specialist, Jennifer Joyce with Dynamite Doggies (positive reinforcement training) in-home or via Zoom. WILL ROCKET ORBIT INTO YOUR GALAXY? Please read the attached evaluation before applying: Contact Christine at SBVLR, [email protected], 18056806524 or owner Kim, [email protected].

📢 Update!! Darcy had been adopted 🐾 🏡 💕

1.5 year old Darcy still need a Furever home!!!

Good news: Darcy has made so much improvement in her pica (eating inappropriate objects) since her rescue and surgery that her vet and foster Jennifer feel it was more related to the blockage. Darcy now sits and waits for treats, will “drop” and “leave” items. She is the rare rescue: loves all people, kids, and dogs, no behavior issues. Just a fun-loving girl so ready to love and be loved. Can’t you open your heart to give Darcy a home?

Will you be Sampson’s Valentine?, organized by Santa Barbara Vizsla Rescue

Our beloved epileptic Vizsla Ziggy, who went to the rainbow bridge in 2019, had a loyal fan club of supporters for Valentine’s Day. Each year, we celebrate his life and memory by choosing a worthy dog who desperately needs our help. This year, we are celebrating SAMPSON’S FLIGHT FOR HOPE and Santa Barbara Vizsla Lovers Rescue, in cooperation with Vizsla Rescue Haven and incredible help from Pilots N Paws, Cane Rosso Rescue, additional support from CO/WY V Rescue and Airsong’s Angels have given him an amazing chance. Sampson is one of the most deserving Valentine’s we have helped.. surrendered to a kill shelter in Texas a year ago, he had already endured an abusive trainer with resulting fear aggression in crates and kennels, when Cane Rosso rescued him. Then suddenly last month his resident trainer had a massive heart attack, leaving Sampson undiscovered tied and muzzled for 5 days without food or water. After two weeks in another shelter, so fearful to Sampson with his kennel trigger, in imminent danger of euthanasia, Vizsla Rescue Haven stepped up to take ownership if we could get him across three states to VRH’s wonderful foster! The Plano Shelter, Cane Russo, Vizsla Rescue Haven, three rescue coordinators including SBVLR and four incredible volunteers worked together enlisting the help of Pilots N Paws, VRH’s trusted former fosters in Tucson, and a remarkable private veterinarian who free of charge went to the shelter parking lot 7:00am day of flight to issue shots and Health Certificate. Whew! Sampson flew into the wild blue yonder! He won’t stop running free on his fenced acres and playing with his new Vizsla friends, but he is going to need medical procedures to improve his health and an intensive positive reinforcement training program with his skilled Academy of Dog Trainers behavioralist to face challenges that were not his fault. We at SBVLR know what Ziggy’s and Tucker’s fan clubs have accomplished with your kind donations. This year, will you be Sampson’s Valentine? SBVLR and VRH have 501C3 status and all donations are tax deductible.

URGENT NEED FOSTER HELP FOR COPPER THE 4 YEAR OLD VIZSLA🐾

Copper is a gorgeous 4 yr pure bred Vizsla who came to the attention of Vizsla Rescue Haven and Santa Barbara Vizsla Rescue when contacted by a young couple who had saved Copper in April from a horrid situation. He was placed on Facebook by his “owner” who knew little about him, could not identify the breeder, vet/vaccine information, or even brand of food. He claimed he got Copper as a pup from LA, trained to German commands but Copper did not respond to either German or English. Copper was filthy, skinny, covered in ticks, his pads actually torn and bloody. According to a former neighbor, Copper was trapped in a garage for days at a time and would escape whenever he could. The “owner” told the neighbor to keep him, “do whatever you want with him.” The kind couple took Copper to get him away from the abuse and neglect and they have provided a good loving home for Copper. They found Copper walks nicely on a leash with no aggression to humans or dogs, he is Velcro, affectionate and playful, does not escalate discord with the couple’s other Vizsla, and is crate trained, enjoying his crate as a refuge; he is not destructive. Unfortunately, they cannot keep him due to incompatibility with their female Vizsla (she snaps at him and he plays too rough for her), and their extended family situation (many small children). See what they say about Copper (attached). Copper appears to have been a victim of severe abuse which has caused him to exhibit some resource guarding, in-home stranger aggression and he has bitten on four occasions (all level 2, one level 3 at a relative’s house not needing treatment). Vizsla Rescue Haven has provided Copper with a professional behavioral assessment by a graduate of the Academy of Dog Training, Tim Steele (please read the attached detailed assessment) who believes Copper is so worthy of a chance to be trained, change. Our problem: Vizsla Rescue Haven is downsizing so there is no room but VRH has agreed to take ownership of Copper if the right foster steps up for him. Copper needs: a foster (or foster to adopt) for Vizsla Rescue Haven, a calm household EXPERIENCED with special needs V’s and willing to work with an experienced positive reinforcement training specialist. His main issue seems to be resource guarding and reactivity to collar grabbing which is common in Vizsla’s and can be worked on in the right home. He would benefit from exercise (he’s not aggressive on leash to dogs or people), land or a big yard, not a lot of strangers coming and going and just for safety, no small children. Any other dogs in the home should big or hearty and able to actively play. Vizsla Rescue Haven, with SBVLR’s help as a courtesy, will raise funds to cover the cost of his in-home training and can set up transport anywhere (he is in Northern CA). WE NEED COMPASSION, IDEAS, AND HELP TO SAVE COPPER ASAP. What would we all do without second chances? 💕 Copper has had such a hard beginning, let’s save him from a bad end. Contact Rescue Coordinators: Christine, [email protected], Kay, [email protected], Val, [email protected].

‼️Please read attached behavioral assessments before contacting rescue coordinators ‼️

General information

Vizslas are a special breed of dog. Sensitive, smart, very active and requiring A LOT (hours!) of exercise EVERY SINGLE DAY. They are known as "Velcro-Vs" because they love their family and would prefer to always be touching someone. Your V-relationship can be beyond extremely rewarding, but this breed requires a special kind of person or family. Lacking any or all of the above or sometimes "just because", Vizslas can become extremely nervous, unruly, temperamental or destructive--and that is where we come in. We accept applications and carefully review them to find experienced forever and foster homes for our "Vizslas in Need". If you are looking to adopt, are willing to foster, or have V in our area that needs to be re-homed, please contact us! We can help to thoughtfully and wisely re-home a Vizsla, making the best match of temperament/needs of the dog to a prospective family. We assess the situation in times of family/Vizsla discord, to determine if in fact re-homing is indicated--or whether other types of supports might help to resolve the problem and keep the dog in the home with everyone happy and together. Together with colleagues across the U.S, we assist on a NATIONAL BASIS when a Vizsla goes missing, to support and advise owners as to recovery strategies and to help get the word out rapidly and attain additional resources.

Rattlesnakes are still out!! As a matter of fact, September & October are prime-time baby rattlesnake seasons, as most mothers give birth during late August, September and perhaps early October. They can possibly help you avoid an unfortunate surprise encounter as well by serving as your early warning system. My professional herpetologist & I offer what many of my thousands of extremely satisfied clients have claimed is the most humane, comprehensive and effective (R.A.T.) training they have experienced. 🥳🥳🥳07/22/18 HANK IS SAFE WITH VRESCUE!! See new post🐾💕💪🏽 07/19/19 1945 PDT 🆘URGENT, City of Twentynine Palms, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, USA☠️ THREE DAYS TO LIVE!! Hank is an ~8.5 y/o intact male PBV. He was surrendered to Palms n Paws (Public) Animal Shelter by his owner because he is an escape artist and she lives in an unfenced trailer park. **This shelter is in an underserved community and there has been no interest in Hank, so sadly he will be euthanized if not adopted by or BEFORE 07/22/19**. Hank is reportedly terrified of cats (!) but great with kids and other dogs. *Extremely clever about opening gate latches & fence-climbing*, this SweetPaws needs an understanding, loving, experienced Vowner, regular exercise, and an extremely securely fenced yard. Hank seems somewhat indifferent to the shelter staff; this to me says he lacks trust rather than affection😥. He is underweight, trying hard to escape from his cage at the shelter, and has caused the facial lacerations you see trying to get out. So, he is now e-collared so as to keep him from injuring himself. Adoption fee is $123.00 which includes core vaccines and a voucher for (mandatory) neutering. Vizsla Rescues in NoCA, SoCa, Santa Barbara, and Monterey Bay are all unable to pull/rescue at this time (too many V’s, dearth of funds & Fosters). IF YOU CAN ADOPT HANK, please call the Shelter directly to make arrangements. *Although not nearby, I am somewhat familiar with the area. PM me the details and I will do whatever I can to facilitate. Likely an adoption/payment by phone, arrangement for direct transport to a Veterinarian who boards, physical exam and neutering before pick-up would be the best plan.* Animal Control/Shelter, info & address: https://www.ci.twentynine-palms.ca.us/palmsnpaws Animal Control Officer: (760) 367-0157, OPTION 3 THANK YOU to the incredibly sweet Animal Shelter Volunteer who has reached out to VRescue to try to help poor Hank. Hoping there is a home for him out there somewhere soon!💔🐾💕
07/18/19 🇨🇭HEALTH ALERT If your dog is eating a grain-free, raw, or home-made diet, PLEASE educate yourself on the current catastrophe that is nutritional Dilated Cardiomyopathy in dogs. Here is an update from the Veterinary Medical Nutritionist Group at Tufts University, one of only two (the other being UC Davis SVM Nutrition/Cardiology) whom I personally consider to have any credible research or commentary on the subject. My Vivi (formerly fed Acana, then Zignature, now on Purina Pro Plan; thankfully her heart is ok we think because it was mixed with Hill’s I/D) hopes that it saves lives among her Vcousins and their friends. Commenting turned off as I am not interested in controversy, just hope that all of you will read, think carefully, and share. https://vetnutrition.tufts.edu/2019/07/dcmupdate/?fbclid=IwAR3HIIIhdynIIJNK8uwFUrK5je_Qz5ARNxodBaTpLj3RDf3vXsk2vAdXtys
