🕵️‍♂️ Fun Fact Friday: Spotlight on Our Frisky Ferret Friends! 🐾

If you're lucky enough to have one of these playful pals, or are considering welcoming one into your home, here are some fun and important facts to know:

🦨 Their scientific name means "stinky thief"... and yes, they do love stealing and hiding your stuff for fun!
👃 As a member of the weasel family, ferrets can emit an odor, which might put some people off. But be careful—bathing them too often actually intensifies the scent.
👥 A group of ferrets is adorably called a "business."
🥩 These little carnivores have specific dietary needs that they need to live a long, healthy life.
🐾 Super friendly and playful, ferrets thrive in pairs or small groups (2–5 is ideal).
🚫 They are not destructive chewers, and yes—they can be litterbox trained!
🩺 Annual exams and vaccines are a must to keep them protected and safe.

We’re here to help with the unique care needs of these mischievous, lovable critters. Have questions about ferret care? Give us a call 614-870-7008.

For everyone who knew and loved our wonderful technician, Helen West, we’re honoring her memory this week by featuring her cat, Nami, who is now looking for a forever home. Nami is ready to bring love and comfort to a new family. Please call or stop by the hospital if you are interested.
Meet Nami – Sweet, Smart, and One-of-a-Kind!
Nami is a beautiful 1-year-and-11-month-old tabby with soft white accents and an even softer heart. This spayed domestic short hair is as charming as she is resilient—and she’s ready to bring her sweet spirit into a loving forever home.
Nami has epilepsy, but don’t let that scare you off! Her condition is well-controlled with medication, and she’s an absolute champ at taking her daily pill. She knows the routine and happily accepts her meds in exchange for a tasty treat. She’s even been seen by a neurologist to rule out anything more serious than epilepsy.
She adores her dry food and catnip treats, and she’s 100% litterbox trained—with a little bonus: Nami is the tidy roommate we all wish we had! She even helps cover up after her fellow cats.
One of her favorite pastimes is lounging in the “catio,” watching squirrels play and chirping at the birds. But if a loud truck rumbles nearby, she’ll quickly ask to come back inside—Nami prefers peace and quiet.
She’s respectful of your space and sleeps peacefully on her self-heating mat on the dresser. But show her a comb, and she’ll come running—she lives for a good grooming session. Belly rubs? Yes, please! Nami is one of those rare cats who adores them.
She also loves lounging on a sunny window perch and gets along well with other cats, especially her young feline buddy in the home. Her gentle, good-natured personality makes her a joy to be around.
Nami is looking for a calm, caring home where she can continue her routine, get all the belly rubs and comb time she deserves, and enjoy life as the special girl she is.

For everyone who knew and loved our wonderful technician, Helen West, we’re honoring her memory this week by featuring her cat, Michito, who is now looking for a forever home. Michito is ready to bring love and fun to a new family! - Please call or stop by the hospital if you are interested.
Michito is a handsome 2-year-and-7-month-old sleek short-haired orange tabby. This neutered gentleman might be a little shy at first, but give him a moment to get comfortable, and you'll discover a sweet, affectionate cat with loads of personality.
He’s a dry food kind of guy, but he lives for his special treat—¼ can of wet food, which he’ll happily lick clean every time. Micheeto also enjoys the great outdoors (aka the backyard), where he politely asks to go out and keeps himself entertained with an ongoing—and completely harmless—game of chase with the squirrels. No squirrels have been harmed, of course; he just enjoys the thrill of the game!
Michito is fully litterbox trained and impressively polite—he knows better than to jump on the counters. When it’s time to relax, you’ll often find him curled up behind his humans’ legs, whether it’s couch time or bedtime.
He’s a busy, playful boy who enjoys his toys and playing with another cat in the household who is his same age.

For everyone who knew and loved our wonderful technician, Helen West, we are honoring her memory this week by featuring her beloved cat, Squeek, who is now looking for a forever home.

Meet Squeak!
Squeak is a lovely 14-year-old lady with a soft, tabby-striped coat along her head and back, and a bright white face and underside that highlight her sweet expression. She’s a spayed domestic short hair who’s aging gracefully and still full of life.
Squeak enjoys dry food and treats, with a bit of canned food now and then for a special treat. She’s in good health and has a soft spot for her adult humans—literally! One of her favorite places to be is snuggled in your lap. Her fur is incredibly soft, and at bedtime, she curls up by her mom’s face, gently holding her fingers in her paws. It’s her special way of saying, “I love you.”
While she’s not a fan of other cats and prefers to keep her distance from them (despite currently cohabiting with a few), Squeak is surprisingly tolerant of dogs. She’d do best in a calm, quiet home—she hasn’t been around young children, so her comfort level with them is unknown.
Squeak loves the great outdoors and will happily spend her days basking in the sun when the weather is nice. She’s a skilled mouser (a true talent!), though she has a kind heart for the backyard birds and leaves them be.
This independent but affectionate girl is looking for a forever home where she can enjoy the best of both worlds—loving cuddles and sunny outdoor adventures.

It has taken some time for me to post this about Helen. She was an integral part of the success of our hospital. Helen was one of the very best technicians I've had the honor to work with-her gentleness & compassion towards every single patient that walked through our doors is legendary.

Our beloved Helen West passed away from ovarian cancer on May 12th. Helen West was a technician with the NRVH family since 6/2005. Her level of compassion, experience and kindness made her a client & patient favorite on our team. (She was infamous for her gentle a**l gland expressions). Helen was my surgery technician for over 18 years. During surgery, it's just the two of us together all day so we used to get into some very deep & philosophical conversations. We both had a big love of books & birds and had SO many book discussions & we would talk about which birds were coming to our backyard feeders. Helen was always a big part of our Bookaholics of NRVH when her health allowed. Helen was my mentor is so many ways. Not just with her veterinary experience but with life in general. I would go to her for all kinds of advice: parenting, relationships, team management, life in general. She was wise beyond her years (she was my Yoda). Helen "retired" 4 years ago when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She spent the last 4 years doing all the things she loved: spending time with her 7 cats & her 18 year old dog, Buck (her house literally was one giant enrichment environment for her pets), reading, spending time with friends & family. Helen will be missed more than words can describe, she has left a huge void for me and so many other people that she touched with her friendship & love.
