Spike looks so angelic, doesn't he? This bad boy has lost two collars outside and I can't find them. I'm sure they were on tight enough, I'd have to pull and wiggle to get them off over his ears. Yet they disappeared. This is the guy who barks at the ground all day long. Vibrations? I don't know but now he wears a harness.

This crazy dog, Spike. He's been barking incessantly for a while so I go outside to see what it is, expecting to see some deer or rabbits outside the fence. But no, all the time he's barking he's walking around head down, sniffing the ground and barking at it. He was trained to hunt rabbits so maybe he's trying to scare them out of their holes?

Farewell Sassy. She was diagnosed with cancer less than 2 months ago and as it always does, it quickly caught up to her. She had a good long life, though, living to 14. She leaves her daughter, 13-year-old Maggie, behind. We will both miss Sassy very much.

Say hello to our new little old man, Spike. He's about 10 years old. He was a bunny hunter until he got too old to hunt so he's now retired with us. It's no surprise that he's heartworm positive but we'll get him cured of that. Happy to have you with us, sweetie!

Here's our new girl, Reba. She was found wandering down the middle of the road in KY. A very good woman took her home and kept her safe, even took her to the vet, while she looked for a rescue to take her. She was able to track down the owner but they didn't want her back. She's supposed to be 14 but she looks and acts younger. She's very sweet, loving and smart. You can see she has some very unusual coloring - sort of a gray brindle on the back, red/gray legs, a half-black tail and red ears. She's a beauty and we are very happy to give her a home.

Here comes Reba! Arriving at HOP this evening.

Rest in peace, sweet girl. Darci shared her love with us at HOP for six years. What a gift to have her in our lives for so long. She passed away this week from cancer discovered last fall, but will be remembered for her love of sunshine on the patio, her constant demands for belly rubs, and just a beautiful soul. We'll see you again at the Rainbow Bridge, sweetheart. ❤

Many thanks to all who alerted me that spammers were commenting on our posts. All were trying to sell sweatshirts. If we ever sell anything, it will be a post from HOP, not some stranger's name.

We have another new retiree, Henry! He's a 12-year-old basset from VA, surrendered by his owner. He had been living in her basement because he marked in the house. If she had only had him neutered he might have stopped that. Her husband had wanted to breed him someday. Fortunately, they didn't because he's not even a well-bred basset, lacking the floor-dragging long ears. But he does have the big basset bark, which he practices regularly.

Henry is still getting used to his new brothers and sisters. He's a bit shy of them and has been keeping to himself in the kitchen and dining room. But when the call for dinner goes out he's not afraid to mingle to see what's up.

We're very happy to have this sweet boy and look forward to the day he totally settles in.

We are so excited to introduce you to Baby, our newest HOPper!! We're not quite sure what breeds have created this beautiful baby, but he's all sorts of cuteness. 💕

Baby ended up at a West Virginia shelter after years and years in the hands of a backyard breeder. He's about 15-16 years old, and who knows what, if any, medical care he's had over the years.

Baby has a lot of arthritis in his back legs, and doesn't hear or see very well. But it doesn't hold him back - he is an absolute joy and still plays like a puppy sometimes. ❤️ We are so happy to provide love and care to Baby for whatever time he has left.

Do you think this will persuade Bissell to donate one of these to the next HOP raffle? Thank you, Easy Cheese and Ethel.

02/24/2024

My new can of Easy Cheese says for best results, remove cap... I'm so glad they included that in the directions. It's for the dogs. My plan is to spray it on the side of my new Bissell spin mop to get a picture of a dog licking it. I'm writing to Bissell to ask them to donate one for the next HOP raffle. I thought a picture would be convincing.

02/18/2024

I don't believe it, Google doesn't know how to spell basset! I did a search on something about bassets and Google came back with a correction, "Showing results for bassetts." 😟

I love to watch the hounds contentedly chewing. I passed out bully sticks to them all. They're all very busy.

House of Puddles is looking for a volunteer to fill a very important position. Would you like to help our senior hounds from the comfort of your home? Do you like to shop? Are you good at internet searches? We're looking for a Raffle Prize Coordinator. Your job will be to search for and order unique items to put in our raffles, take photos, write descriptions and ship the items to the winners. It does take up time so please consider your other commitments before volunteering. We have two raffles a year, one in May and one in November. Of course, you will be reimbursed for the cost of the items and shipping.

Mary Calabray has held this position for many years and we are deeply thankful for the time and effort she has devoted to HOP. She has been a huge help in making our raffles successful. She is now retiring from the job due to other obligations. But you will be able to benefit from her experience. She will share with you her tips, tricks and contacts for finding, organizing and shipping the prizes.

If you're interested in volunteering, please email [email protected]. Thank you!
