We provide a permanent, loving home for old hounds, primarily basset hounds, beagles, and mixes, that nobody else wants.

Trip giving his opinion of the vet tech.
No, I don't have to get up. I'm retired! Opal.
Welcome home, Opal! This little lady's owner passed away and she ended up in a shelter in Kentucky. They didn't know her name so we gave her a new one.
Opal apparently hasn't seen a TV before. She watched intently with her head cocked and barked at it. Then she ran around the back looking for the strange people. Nobody there! She's still getting used to the other dogs, growling a bit when they get too close. She's picked out a crate she likes to sleep in. Last night she went out in the pouring rain to take care of business. Best dog ever!
Faster, lady, faster! Opal is on her way.
It turns out "Opie" is missing all the boy parts so she is now an Opal. She'll be heading to us on Friday. She looks so much happier since she had a bath and the ticks picked off her.
Tongue out Tuesday - Lucky.
Show us your tongues!
Eric Hoffman, age 9.
Many years ago a friend had a few kids draw some of the Hoppers from photos. This was done by Megan Hoffman, age 5. We added the captions.
There's a baby crying! Somebody save the baby!
It seems Trip likes Spike's toy basket, too.
Trip loves the TV. I'm sure he didn't have one where he came from.
Here's our new guy, Trip! He was the oldest of four beagles rescued from a hunter who was about to dump them because they wouldn't hunt (where have we heard this before?) He's a very gentle boy, just wanting affection and he will get plenty of it here. He already knows how to use the dog doors and likes to sun himself on the deck. Welcome home, sweetie!
Trip starts his journey to HOP!
Penny gave us a scare yesterday. An hour before she was scheduled to go to the vet for an exam she started dripping blood from her mouth. I figured it was probably a tooth but then huge blood clots started coming out. When the vet looked at it she thought it was likely a tumor (there was a lump below her eye), she had lost a lot of blood so she suggested euthanasia. But I still thought it was a tooth and wanted it looked at further. Penny spent the night and today they put her under to look in her mouth better. It was a tooth! They extracted it along with 9 other teeth and cleaned the rest. So, $2,500 later you can see why Penny is not a happy camper. If you would like to help Penny out with a donation it would really cheer her up.

Leia passed away quietly in her sleep last night. She was 15. When I found her this morning she looked very peaceful. That's the best way to go. You were loved well, Leia.
We have a houseful of happy Hoppers chewing on beef tendons.
Sharing is caring. Lucky & Spike
Our newest retiree, 12-year-old Penny. She is so friendly! She warmed up to me the minute I met her. She is fine with the other dogs, she has no fear. She must have had a happy home before. Her elderly owners had gotten to the point where they couldn't take care of themselves let alone her so she was neglected for quite a while. At the end, she was living alone in their house and a kind neighbor cared for her. We are very happy to give her a new home!
Here's a happy houndie on her way to HOP - Penny.
We have the raffle winners! See if you're on the list.
Thank you all so very, very much! And thank you to all who donated and sent gifts from our Chewy wish list. It is all a tremendous help!
Were you lucky?
I emptied the toy basket because all the toys always ended up outside. I put in a blanket instead, knowing some little houndie would make his bed in there.
Our raffle is now at $6,300, so close to the $7,000 we're hoping for! Today is the last day to buy tickets so there's no time to wait. We can do it, can't we?
A rescue and sanctuary for homeless senior hounds.
Our new girl, Penny, is going to be one big vet bill. Her teeth are bad and she has gum disease, she drinks excessively, indicating any number of health issues, she's probably heartworm positive since the elderly couple who had her couldn't afford to feed her properly let alone pay for HW preventative, and we don't know if she's been spayed. Her fur is coarse, brittle and in areas sparse from the flea infestation and she has some big lumps. So I'm blatantly using her to get you to buy some raffle ticks. Please, anything will help.

Nothing makes our hearts squeeze with more love than watching our seniors feel so happy and puppyish in their golden years. 🥰
Have you ever seen a sadder girl? Stormy is going to our foster home with Loni Cadmus Willey this weekend.
Welcome to HOP, Crunchy and Cricket! 🥰 These two sweet senior boys started their journey yesterday from Mississippi and are exploring their new HOP home and yard this morning. A whole new life started for them in February when they and other animals were seized by animal control in Mississippi. Emaciated, missing fur from horrible fleas, and painfully struggling to walk after spending their days in cramped cages, Cricket and Crunchy have not known much love or care. But their committed local rescuers and now their HOP family are going to help them make up for lost time. ❤️
Zoe is home from the hospital! She did very well during her FHO hip surgery and has immediately shown encouraging signs. As she carefully steps and hops along, she already has been able to uncross her back legs and put a little weight on her leg. ❤️ We are still about $1,000 away from covering her surgery cost. Could you be one of her angels and help HOP with this unexpected cost? To donate: https://houseofpuddles.org/donate/ Link to Zoe's story: https://www.facebook.com/57351067713/posts/10158183281802714/
Sally wanted to tell everyone how excited she was to be leaving the hospital and that she has had her final mammary tumor surgery!! She's had a tough go of it - removal of both mammary chains, a complex spay, and correction of two separate hernias. Share the happy news, Sally!! 💕
Sally doing great - such a happy girl. 🥰 Not sure any of us would be doing those leg kicks just a week out from extensive surgery!!
Anna is doing GREAT in her hydro-therapy!! 💕 She is getting SO much stronger. Yesterday Anna galloped across the house, and you never would have known how she painfully scuffled along just a few weeks ago. You made this happen, HOP family!! ❤️
Anna has left the building!! Earlier this evening we busted Anna out of the hospital, and she's now resting at home. A few tears (of joy!) were shed as she walked to the car - this is the very first time we've seen her walk fully upright. 🥰 Next steps are now recovery from surgery, and then hydro-therapy to re-build muscle around that reconstructed knee. If you want to see what a difference surgery has already made for Anna, watch the additional video (taken pre-surgery) in the Comments. Thank you for making this day possible! 💕
