🎉 June is National Foster a Pet Month! 🎉

Summer is the BEST time to become part of the Miri's Haven family. Sunshine. Old dogs. Tons of photos and love. 🤍☀️🐕

Right now, we have 12 dogs waiting for foster homes. Some are in shelters, scared, confused, and waiting for help that may or may not ever come. Some are owner surrenders whose families are facing heartbreaking circumstances. Others need us for different reasons. But they all have one thing in common… We can only help them if we have loving fosters.

The good news is that we’ve worked to make becoming a foster easier than ever. We've recently revamped our foster application process, and all it takes to get started is filling out a quick Foster Profile. No lengthy application. We just need some info about you, your family, your home, and the type of dog that might be a good fit. 🐾

⚠️ We cover veterinary care, medications, and typically food and supplies too. You provide the safe landing spot, the love, and the chance for a dog to exhale while we work together to find their forever home.

🐾 A Little Bea PUPDATE 🐾

She’s BACK with a few words for the fans. 🤍

I was Bea,
soft and small,
a quiet dog
who saw not all.

The world was a blur,
the lights were dim,
I still snarled on
on every whim.

Then love arrived
and said, “It’s time,”
and made me mom’s
like I was fine.

Now I am Blueberry,
safe and sound,
with cozy spots
all around.

I sleep, I snack,
I gently roam ~
I never thought I end up
with a home.

The world still flickers,
soft and new…
but now I don’t face it
all alone, too. 🫐

Alumni Bea {now Blueberry} has been in her furever home for 2 weeks and is thriving. ✨ She’s settling in, feeling safe, and enjoying every cozy moment. She’s even cuddling with minimal snarling! A miracle! 🪄 She’ll be seeing an ophthalmologist this fall about her cataracts, but in the meantime she is very busy being cherished.

We love to see it! Continued happy tails, BeaBerry! 💟

📬 Miri’s Monthly has landed!

Gemma is a delightful little Rat Terrier mix with many wonderful qualities. She is cute, so funny and she’s affectionate.

She is also deeply committed to ensuring that dinner is served on time and the house remains secure from any newcomers, canine or otherwise.

Should dinner be delayed by even a few moments, Gemma will issue a series of increasingly urgent complaints in what can only be described as a disgruntled farm animal.

Despite this alarming feature, Gemma remains available for adoption. Applicants should be prepared to provide meals, love, and occasional reassurance that dinner is, in fact, coming. 🏠 🍽️ 🐕

🐍 Little Bear 🐻

Our guy Little Bear is officially back to being ridiculously handsome!

A few weeks ago, he gave us quite a scare after a copperhead bite to his sweet head, but we’re happy to report that he’s fully healed, feeling great and his hairs even grew in SO FAST on his head! The swelling is gone, his face is back to normal, and he’s carrying on as if the whole ordeal was a minor inconvenience.

These days, Little Bear is focused on the very important matter of spending as much time outside as possible. 🌅

Spring is his season. 🌸 Every breeze carries something worth investigating, every patch of grass hides a new mystery, and every walk is an expedition. He could happily spend hours outside, nose to the ground, making sure no corner of the yard goes unexplored, hopefully with no snakes moving forward!

We’re so grateful to see this good boy feeling healthy, happy, and back to doing what he loves most. 💟

🐾 PUG LOVERS COME FORTH! 🐾

Okay she’s not a purebred pug, but LOOK at her! This sweet little mystery Chug looking thing was found wandering as a stray in the Lynchburg, VA area and now she’s more a city girl. 🏙️

Shelter staff believed her family may have realized where she was, but no one ever came to bring her home. It’s a gut punch to consider this loving pup waiting for a family that placed no value on her life. And even more so to consider the mentality that other people will clean up the lives you leave behind.

But their loss is our gain, because this girl is a DOLL! 💗

Mrs. Beasley is around 10 years old, a sturdy 18 pounds, and ready to embrace whatever comes next. She’s friendly, curious, and still has a playful spark that pops up when you least expect it. She’s been perfectly polite with the dogs she’s met and has even handled cat encounters like a seasoned professional. 🐈‍⬛

Like almost all of our seniors, Mrs. Beasley is arriving with a few needs of her own. The biggest one is a dental, and judging by her teefs, it’s a procedure she’s probably been waiting on for quite some time. 🦷

Now she’s safe in a pug heavy foster home where she’ll get the medical care, comfort, and love she deserves while she waits for a family who won’t let her slip through the cracks again. 🙏🏽
