October is National Animal Safety and Protection Month, making it a great time to ask an important question: If an emergency happened today, would you be ready to keep your pet safe?
A few preparations can make a big difference. Keep a pet emergency kit stocked with food, water, necessary medications, copies of medical and vaccination records, a leash or carrier, and other essentials. Check that ID tags are current, and make sure your pet’s microchip registration has your up-to-date contact information.
It’s also important to have a plan for urgent veterinary care. Know where you would take your pet if an emergency happened outside your regular veterinarian’s hours, and make sure everyone in your household knows the plan.
Preparation can’t prevent every emergency, but it can help you respond more quickly when every minute matters.

With National Cat Day coming up on October 29, we’re giving our feline friends a little extra attention—including something cats aren’t always great at doing on their own: drinking enough water.
You can encourage healthy hydration by keeping fresh water available in multiple locations, trying wide, shallow bowls, or offering a pet fountain if your cat prefers moving water. Wet food can also help add moisture to your cat’s diet.
Just as important is knowing what’s normal for your cat. A noticeable increase or decrease in drinking or urination can be a reason to check in with your veterinarian.
