The AWLFC was established as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization in 2001. What began as a grassroots group of concerned animal lovers has grown into the countyโ€™s largest all-volunteer, no-kill animal rescue an

d welfare organization. In October 2009, the AWLFC opened our first adoption center and office at 1202 East Patrick Street, Suite 13A, in Frederick, MD. This office serves as the headquarters for all AWLFC activities, including cat and dog adoptions, our monthly spay/neuter clinic, education and training sessions, and fund-raising events. Founded on the philosophy that every animal deserves a loving home, and that euthanasia is neither an acceptable nor humane form of managing animal populations, the AWLFC has four core programs designed to reduce pet homelessness and euthanasia rates in the region. In collaboration with local shelters, other rescue organizations, and concerned citizens, the AWLFC provides foster care for cats and dogs and then places them in a permanent home via our adoption process. Working with property owners and concerned citizens, the AWLFC coordinates the only formal Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) program in Frederick County, Fixing Frederickโ€™s Felines (FFF). TNR involves the humane trapping of feral and free-roaming cats, sterilization, and vaccination, followed by release back to a committed care-giver who provides food, shelter, and necessary medical care. TNR is the only humane way to manage feral and free-roaming cat populations. The AWLFC offers a monthly spay/neuter clinic designed to help low-income families and individuals access affordable spay/neuter and vaccinations for their pets. In addition to the monthly clinic, AWLFC provides financial assistance to pet owners who need help getting needed veterinary treatment for their cat or dog. AWLFC subsidizes both the monthly spay/neuter clinic and financial assistance for people facing financial hardship. The Friends Helping Felines (FHF) Program was created to help give people the means to spay and neuter homeless cats and kittens and place them in forever homes at those times when the Animal Welfare League's foster program is filled to capacity. FHF participants will have access to reduced rates for routine veterinary care, including spay or neuter and rabies vaccination. And, AWLFC helps people get the cats adopted into forever homes.

๐ŸŽ‰ Ravi, Demi, Winslow, Shelby, and Franklin are now ready for adoption! ๐ŸŽ‰

These babies were all born in April and will be available for meet and greets this weekend, Saturday August 15th from 12-4pm, and Sunday August 16th from 2-4pm.

Ravi is a red lynx point Siamese mix with blue eyes. He is outgoing, playful, and stunning.

Demi is a calico. She is the first to greet her foster parent and is very affectionate.

Winslow is orange and white. Despite his sad eyes, he is happy and calm.

Shelby is also a calico. Whereas Demi has a Siamese shaped face, Shelby's is more rounded. She can also be distinguished by her black "tear." She cannot resist a wand and is the first at the food bowl.

Franklin is a brown tabby with a handsome white chest and mittens. He is very playful and increasingly loves his pets.

Their foster parent can be reached at [email protected] for more information.

๐Ÿพ Your New Best Friend is Waiting! ๐Ÿพ

Looking for a little more love (and a lot more purrs) in your life? Stop by this weekend and meet our adorable crew of kittens and young cats who are ready to find their forever families!

๐Ÿ’• Rachel is ready to charm her way into your heart, while Piper may be a little shy at firstโ€”but don't let that fool you! Once she knows you're a friend, she's as sweet as can be. She's been patiently waiting for her forever home for almost a year. We think it's finally her turn. ๐Ÿฉท

๐Ÿ’– Penelope is all sweetness and can't wait to have a family of her own. She's been dreaming of a forever home for nearly a year, and we'd love nothing more than to see her leave the rescue with someone who adores her. Could that be you?

๐Ÿ’ƒ Quinn is ready to dance her way into your home, and ๐Ÿ˜ผ Watson is working his best "smolder" to win you over.

๐ŸŒฟ Fig, Olive, Willow, and Elm are standing by, ready for cuddles, playtime, and all the adventures that come with being part of a family.

โœจ Every kitten and cat goes home:
๐Ÿฑ Microchipped
๐Ÿ’‰ Up to date on vaccinations
โค๏ธ Spayed or neutered

Come meet them this weekendโ€”you might just find the missing piece of your family. And if you happen to fall for Piper or Penelope, you'll be giving two very deserving girls the happy ending they've been waiting almost a year to find. ๐Ÿก๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ†˜ Barn home needed! ๐Ÿ†˜

Relocating feral cats is never our first choice, but sometimes we have to.

These gorgeous girls are 1 year old fluffy dilute tortie sisters. They are used to people but are not friendly. They are looking for a barn home where they can stay together.

Both cats have been spayed, vaccinated (rabies shots were just updated), and microchipped. Cats will need to go through an acclimation period before being released. All supplies can be provided for this. Contact molletamy@gmail for more info.

Before summer comes to a close, there's one more chance to join AWLFC for Book Buddies Thursday August 13 from 11a-2p! ๐Ÿ˜ธ๐Ÿ“š

Bring your favorite book (or borrow one of ours) and spend some quiet time reading to our shelter cats. Your voice helps socialize the cats, giving them comfort, confidence, and enrichment while you enjoy a fun and meaningful reading experience.

Join us for our last Book Buddies session of the summer! It's the perfect way to wrap up the season while making a difference for our feline friends. We can't wait to see our readers (and our cats' favorite storytellers!) one last time before back to school.

Sign up below, hope to see you there! ๐Ÿ’œ ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿพ

๐ŸŽ‰ Tova Update ๐ŸŽ‰

Tova is starting to feel better, but she's still supposed to be resting. Thatโ€™s a hard thing for a young kitten to do! Foster mom is trying to find lots of new ways to keep her entertained without a lot of movement. Wish her luck! ๐Ÿ€
