The AWLFC was established as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization in 2001. What began as a grassroots group of concerned animal lovers has grown into the county’s largest all-volunteer, no-kill animal rescue an

d welfare organization. In October 2009, the AWLFC opened our first adoption center and office at 1202 East Patrick Street, Suite 13A, in Frederick, MD. This office serves as the headquarters for all AWLFC activities, including cat and dog adoptions, our monthly spay/neuter clinic, education and training sessions, and fund-raising events. Founded on the philosophy that every animal deserves a loving home, and that euthanasia is neither an acceptable nor humane form of managing animal populations, the AWLFC has four core programs designed to reduce pet homelessness and euthanasia rates in the region. In collaboration with local shelters, other rescue organizations, and concerned citizens, the AWLFC provides foster care for cats and dogs and then places them in a permanent home via our adoption process. Working with property owners and concerned citizens, the AWLFC coordinates the only formal Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) program in Frederick County, Fixing Frederick’s Felines (FFF). TNR involves the humane trapping of feral and free-roaming cats, sterilization, and vaccination, followed by release back to a committed care-giver who provides food, shelter, and necessary medical care. TNR is the only humane way to manage feral and free-roaming cat populations. The AWLFC offers a monthly spay/neuter clinic designed to help low-income families and individuals access affordable spay/neuter and vaccinations for their pets. In addition to the monthly clinic, AWLFC provides financial assistance to pet owners who need help getting needed veterinary treatment for their cat or dog. AWLFC subsidizes both the monthly spay/neuter clinic and financial assistance for people facing financial hardship. The Friends Helping Felines (FHF) Program was created to help give people the means to spay and neuter homeless cats and kittens and place them in forever homes at those times when the Animal Welfare League's foster program is filled to capacity. FHF participants will have access to reduced rates for routine veterinary care, including spay or neuter and rabies vaccination. And, AWLFC helps people get the cats adopted into forever homes.

Pancake ~ Dilute Tortie ~ 4 months
If you're looking for a cat that will chat with you, this is your girl. She gets so excited when you walk in the room, and she will let you know! Pancake is playful, brave and never misses the opportunity for some love. Pancake is a great "big" sister to Muffin and would love to be adopted with her.

Muffin ~ White & Black ~ 4 months
This sweet girl prefers to show her love in her own way – she is never far away from you – but prefers to let the other kittens crawl into your lap. She is more laid back than her sisters but does like to run around and play with them after mealtime. Muffin will be happiest with another kitten friend or her sister Pancake.

📣 Introducing the C and D litters! 📣

Charlie, Cooper, Dash and Dottie Sue are now available for adoption!

Please reach out to foster mom Chelby at [email protected] for details and to start the process of meeting and bringing these amazing kittens into your family.

All of our kittens are spayed/ neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations!

Charlie is a gorgeous medium haired black and white 3 month old kitten. He is the loviestof his litter and always wants to be by your side. He’s super inquisitive and will follow you everywhere just to see what’s up next. If he wants your attention, he’ll tap you with his paw softly. Charlie is also a super polite eater, and won’t hog all the food like other kittens. He’ll love being one of several cats in his forever home as he’s super social and kind.

Cooper is a lean, tall buff and white tabby.
When born, he was nearly the smallest kitten in his litter, but has grown up so beautiful and fun. He’s 3 months old and ready to play!
Cooper is sweet and will want to be close by you to see what’s going on, but he loves to play with any toy.
He will definitely want a playmate as he’s always had siblings and many foster siblings. Hes fine with kind dogs and would be great with kids.

Dash is a small, petite classic tortie. She’s 3 months old and sweet as can be. Dash loves companionship but has that tortie independent streak, too.
She is going to be the most beautiful cat, with perfect tortie markings.
Dash will do well in a home with other cats but may not be the best with dogs.

Dottie Sue is a medium haired calico. She is 3 months old. Dottie LOVES string toys. She’s also very happy to see you all the time. She will come running when you walk into her room and greet you. Her little tail vibrates like a rattlesnake when she’s happy, and she’s usually happy.
Along with her beauty comes brains. She knows when you want her to follow you and will go wherever you ask. She is very in tune with her people.
Dottie will do best in a home without dogs, though she may adjust fine to a small calm one. She will be great with other cats and fine with kids.

📣 Come meet these fun kittens Saturday,
July 13th and Sunday, July 14th from 12-2pm at our adoption center! 📣

Mrs. Norris and her kittens Hedwig, Errol, Norbert, Hermes and Dobby are a big family of tabbies who are all super friendly, playful, and love to sit on laps.

Weasley (orange) and Wendy (calico) are brother/sister. Wendy has Cerebellar Hypoplasia (wobble cat) while Weasley does not. They are both a little shy but are very sweet kittens.

Toby, Harvey, and Annie are tabby siblings who all came into foster care with bad eye infections. Harvey and Annie’s eyes are totally fine now but Toby has some vision loss that doesn’t slow him down. They are all cuddly and playful.

Lady is a 9 month old petite tabby and white kitten who is super sweet and loves to be brushed. She will be at the adoption center 12-4pm both days.

Bios with more info on each of them are on Petfinder.

💜 A huge thank you to Kevin and Linda Sandoval for their generous donation of pet treats and monetary donation in loving memory and in honor of Sean Sandoval’s birthday today, July 12th. 💜

Sean was a lover of all animals, who adopted many and also gave selflessly to animal organizations. We all know how much pets can enrich our lives, and we're sure Sean would be happy to know that his memory is being celebrated in such a compassionate way.

The treats you donated will be a delightful surprise for our furry residents in our foster cat and dog programs. Thank you again for your kindness and generosity. Your donation will make a real difference in the lives of the animals we serve. 🐾

📣 Details on this past weekend’s project: 📣

Much thanks to our dedicated volunteers who worked at a colony in Urbana in this oppressive heat over the weekend. There were 40+ cats and kittens at this site, and most of them were sick with upper respiratory infections and eye issues. We were able to get some veterinary appointments for them, so the trapping began.

Almost all the adults are sick or injured, and all the kittens are sick. Three so far have had to have eyes removed. This is a terrible example of what can happen in an uncontrolled colony.

We are still working, so stay tuned!

If you would like to donate towards the treatment and care of these cats and kittens you can do it here. Any amount helps!

🐱 ♥️ SAFE BARN HOME NEEDED ♥️ 🐱

Sometimes we need to take a good look at what is best for the wellbeing of our foster cats and that may mean finding a different type of home for them.

Dyna has tried to live indoors with other cats, and with a dog, but it's not the best fit for her. She is stressed indoors and ultimately, we need to do what's best for HER.

A safe barn home is sometimes the perfect solution for these situations. We believe Dyna will be happy as an only cat to take care of those mice in your barn or property.

Please reach out to [email protected] for more info on this playful, sassy, independent girl 😻

⭐️ Hedwig and Mrs. Norris will be at our adoption center this Sunday July 7th from 12-2pm! ⭐️

Hedwig is a friendly 16 week old brown tabby kitten. She’s close to her mama Mrs. Norris and likes to play with her brothers. She’s a sweetie who loves to socialize and would not hesitate to clamor onto a nice warm lap to curl up for a nap. She also likes to try and find the highest place in the room as she explores. She’s a very playful girl and can find entertainment out of a box, stray piece of paper, or any toy she encounters. As she’s close to her mama, it’s strongly encouraged that Hedwig and Mrs. Norris are adopted as a pair.

Mrs. Norris is an outgoing one-year-old cat who has already raised five kittens of her own. When she isn’t doting on her kittens, she is persistently investigating anything she can get her paws on. She’s a friendly brown tabby and loves to chat with any human she can find. She’s a very social cat and loves to play with her kittens. She would do well in a house with children, a lot of stimulation, and places to explore. She is fine with being picked up, carried around, and is as playful as her kittens. She is close with her lone daughter Hedwig and would do best to go to a home alongside her or at least one of her babies.

Hedwig and Mrs. Norris have been fostered in an active household with many people and animals. Both are good with dogs and other cats. They would be a good fit for families with young kids. It would be best if they are adopted together or into a home with another young cat they can play with.

Hedwig and Mrs. Norris are both spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Foster mom can be reached at [email protected]

👑 Lady will be at our adoption center Saturday July 6th and Sunday July 7th from 12-4. 👑

Lady is a petite short hair cinnamon brown tabby and white kitten who loves being brushed. She is a little shy initially but is a love bug once she is comfortable. She loves to get pets and attention and enjoys playing with toys.

Lady was rescued in early January and had a rough start when she came into foster care. She was trapped a week after her sister because she was good at avoiding traps. Ultimately a large drop trap was used to get her right before snow was forecasted. She was underweight from living outside in the cold as a small kitten. The tip of her tail was broken likely when quite young and has healed with a slight kink at the end. She is estimated to be around 9 months old. She has been fostered in a home with older resident cats and dogs.

Lady is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. Foster mom can be reached at [email protected]
