The AWLFC was established as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization in 2001. What began as a grassroots group of concerned animal lovers has grown into the county’s largest all-volunteer, no-kill animal rescue an

d welfare organization. In October 2009, the AWLFC opened our first adoption center and office at 1202 East Patrick Street, Suite 13A, in Frederick, MD. This office serves as the headquarters for all AWLFC activities, including cat and dog adoptions, our monthly spay/neuter clinic, education and training sessions, and fund-raising events. Founded on the philosophy that every animal deserves a loving home, and that euthanasia is neither an acceptable nor humane form of managing animal populations, the AWLFC has four core programs designed to reduce pet homelessness and euthanasia rates in the region. In collaboration with local shelters, other rescue organizations, and concerned citizens, the AWLFC provides foster care for cats and dogs and then places them in a permanent home via our adoption process. Working with property owners and concerned citizens, the AWLFC coordinates the only formal Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) program in Frederick County, Fixing Frederick’s Felines (FFF). TNR involves the humane trapping of feral and free-roaming cats, sterilization, and vaccination, followed by release back to a committed care-giver who provides food, shelter, and necessary medical care. TNR is the only humane way to manage feral and free-roaming cat populations. The AWLFC offers a monthly spay/neuter clinic designed to help low-income families and individuals access affordable spay/neuter and vaccinations for their pets. In addition to the monthly clinic, AWLFC provides financial assistance to pet owners who need help getting needed veterinary treatment for their cat or dog. AWLFC subsidizes both the monthly spay/neuter clinic and financial assistance for people facing financial hardship. The Friends Helping Felines (FHF) Program was created to help give people the means to spay and neuter homeless cats and kittens and place them in forever homes at those times when the Animal Welfare League's foster program is filled to capacity. FHF participants will have access to reduced rates for routine veterinary care, including spay or neuter and rabies vaccination. And, AWLFC helps people get the cats adopted into forever homes.

Attention crafters and artists! 🎨 🧶

The holidays will soon be upon us, and we are looking for donations of handmade items to sell at our adoption center and online shop. We are also looking for donations of toys for our pet stockings. As always, 100% of funds raised are used to save animals!

As the winter weather approaches and with daylight savings here, what better way to spend your evenings and days than with a a cuddle buddy?
These girls are very friendly, sweety playful and ready to go to their forever home, is that you?

They are about 6 months old, spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

The girls can all be adopted separately or with a friend. They are good with children, not been around dogs but should be great with proper introductions.

DOB: July 24, 2025

Slate is a sweet, gentle kitten with a big heart and an even bigger purr. He loves to snuggle up in your arms or curl up on your lap for cozy naps. Playtime is one of his favorite parts of the day — he adores chasing mouse toys and proudly carrying them around. The ribbon teaser wand is another of his top picks, keeping him entertained and happy for hours.

Slate’s affectionate personality and playful spirit make him the perfect companion for anyone looking for a loving and fun little friend. 🐈‍⬛💕

Opal is a sweet, affectionate kitten who loves to purr and snuggle. She’s a little shadow who enjoys climbing onto your lap (or shoulders!) to be close to you. Always curious, Opal takes her supervisory duties seriously — especially when you’re cleaning the litter box.

This playful girl adores her mouse toys, proudly carrying them around the house, and she’s a champion at chasing ribbon and string teaser wands. With her loving personality and playful spirit, Opal will bring endless joy and companionship to her forever home. 💖 🐱

She may take a little time to warm up, but once she trusts you, she’ll happily accept treats right from your hand — one of her favorite things! While Jade isn’t a big fan of being held, she enjoys spending time nearby and showing affection in her own quiet way.

Playtime brings out her curious side — she loves chasing mouse toys, carrying them proudly, and hiding them for safekeeping. The ribbon teaser wand is another of her favorites, keeping her happily entertained.

Jade is the perfect companion for someone who appreciates a sweet, independent spirit and wants to earn the love of a thoughtful little friend. ❤️ 🐱

Ruby is a purring little love bug who always seeks out attention and snuggles. She knows exactly what she wants and isn’t shy about asking for it!

This playful kitten adores chasing toy mice and can’t resist the ribbon or string teaser wand — it’s her absolute favorite. When you’re tidying up, Ruby will be right there supervising, making sure you remember to multitask by giving her cuddles between sweeps.

Ruby’s affectionate, curious, and full of kitten charm — she’s ready to bring love and laughter into her forever home! ❤️🐱

Meet Macho! 🖤

This handsome 5-month-old black kitten was found on the side of the road, but you’d never know it from his loving heart. Macho is extremely affectionate — he’ll be in your lap, perched on your shoulder, or curled up close any chance he gets. With his smarts and eagerness to connect, he could easily be trained to jump right into your arms!

When he’s not soaking up cuddles, Macho is a rambunctious player. He’d do best in a home with just adults or older children. Macho would prefer to be your one and only, but may do well with other pets given slow, thoughtful introductions.
