The AWLFC was established as a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization in 2001. What began as a grassroots group of concerned animal lovers has grown into the county’s largest all-volunteer, no-kill animal rescue an

d welfare organization. In October 2009, the AWLFC opened our first adoption center and office at 1202 East Patrick Street, Suite 13A, in Frederick, MD. This office serves as the headquarters for all AWLFC activities, including cat and dog adoptions, our monthly spay/neuter clinic, education and training sessions, and fund-raising events. Founded on the philosophy that every animal deserves a loving home, and that euthanasia is neither an acceptable nor humane form of managing animal populations, the AWLFC has four core programs designed to reduce pet homelessness and euthanasia rates in the region. In collaboration with local shelters, other rescue organizations, and concerned citizens, the AWLFC provides foster care for cats and dogs and then places them in a permanent home via our adoption process. Working with property owners and concerned citizens, the AWLFC coordinates the only formal Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) program in Frederick County, Fixing Frederick’s Felines (FFF). TNR involves the humane trapping of feral and free-roaming cats, sterilization, and vaccination, followed by release back to a committed care-giver who provides food, shelter, and necessary medical care. TNR is the only humane way to manage feral and free-roaming cat populations. The AWLFC offers a monthly spay/neuter clinic designed to help low-income families and individuals access affordable spay/neuter and vaccinations for their pets. In addition to the monthly clinic, AWLFC provides financial assistance to pet owners who need help getting needed veterinary treatment for their cat or dog. AWLFC subsidizes both the monthly spay/neuter clinic and financial assistance for people facing financial hardship. The Friends Helping Felines (FHF) Program was created to help give people the means to spay and neuter homeless cats and kittens and place them in forever homes at those times when the Animal Welfare League's foster program is filled to capacity. FHF participants will have access to reduced rates for routine veterinary care, including spay or neuter and rabies vaccination. And, AWLFC helps people get the cats adopted into forever homes.

Come meet Trevor today (Sunday) from noon-2 p.m. at the AWLFC adoption center. In addition to his beautiful green eyes and cute tabby spot on his nose, this 3+-year-old fella loves to sit on his human’s laps and purrrr a lot! He also loves chin rubs, and will get so enthused, he drops to his side and squiggles around in enjoyment. He lives with a dog and other cats, but he also would love to be the only prince in the household so he could get all the attention.

Come meet MATILDA this Saturday (8/23) from 12-3 at the AWLFC Adoption Center.

Female, Born around April 1, 2025

Personality: Matilda is a fun, sweet, and outgoing kitten. Matilda is quite vocal when she wants something. She is a champion fetcher and loves her purple ball. She enjoys being next to humans and near humans but isn’t as much on top of humans as her sisters but doesn’t mind being held for a short time. Her head tilts when she’s curious to a hilariously deep degree. The two black marks on her side make a heart when she curls up. She really enjoys watching TV! She would love to be adopted with one or more of her litter mates as they are quite bonded.

Health: No health issues. Fully-vetted - up to date on vaccinations, spayed, tested, and micro-chipped. Adopter will get all medical records.

Special Needs: None

Litter trained: Yes

Siblings: Teddy & Spice Girl (also available for adoption)

Other household pets: She gets along with other friendly cats. She has never encountered a dog but would most likely get along fine with a friendly, non-aggressive dog.

Adoption Policies: It is the policy of the Animal Welfare League of Frederick County that adopters agree to keep the cat indoors only, feed a high quality wet-food only diet (no dry), and never declaw the animal. Not agreeing to any one of these is a deal breaker. Applicants must give their current Vet (if applicable) permission to speak to our adoption coordinator during the application process. Adoptions are not same day and are not first-come, first-serve. AWLFC tries to find the best fit for each kitten.

Please contact [email protected] with any questions and to discuss next steps if you would like to meet Matilda.

Come meet SPICE GIRL this Saturday (8/23) from 12-3 at the AWLFC Adpoption Center.

Female, Born around April 1, 2025

Personality: Spice Girl is a fun, sweet, and outgoing kitten. She will play with her mouse toy uninterrupted for a wild amount of time. She stands up and puts paws up to greet you and hangs back from sisters to get extra human love. She barely meows but does occasionally chirp when playing. She is acrobatic with string toys; her flips are astounding. She likes being right next to humans but not as often directly on them. She is very smart and has begun to learn basic commands–for treats of course. She would love to be adopted with one or more of her litter mates as they are quite bonded.

Health: No health issues. Fully-vetted - up to date on vaccinations, spayed, tested, and micro-chipped. Adopter will get all medical records.

Special Needs: None

Come meet TEDDY this Saturday (8/23) from 12-3 at the AWLFC adoption center.

Female, Born around April 1, 2025

Personality: Teddy is a lover and the most outgoing of the litter. She loves all the cuddles and to be held like a baby. She can’t get enough of her humans and will fall asleep in their lap. She has a very quiet sweet meow. She will stand up to greet you and often walks on her back legs when holding/playing with a toy. The two black marks on her side make a heart when she curls up. She loves crinkly paper and boxes to play in. Her butt wiggle attack is hilarious. She tucks herself inside blankets. She is very brave and curious. She gets the zoomies like a dog - grabs a favorite toy then just runs back and forth crazy fast! She would love to be adopted with one or more of her litter mates as they are quite bonded.

Health: No health issues. Fully-vetted - up to date on vaccinations, spayed, tested, and micro-chipped. Adopter will get all medical records.
