Mo was our hospital greeter from 1999 until his passing in 2018. He was a spicy little lovebird who only loved like 3 people (and broccoli). His attitude was larger than life and we miss him everyday.

Luca came in to see Dr. Leslie for upper airway congestion & nasal discharge (stuffy and runny nose). She felt pretty yucky, so after radiographs confirmed she didn't have pneumonia, Dr. Leslie prescribed antibiotics.
Several days later, Luca was feeling much better, but was still sneezing. We tried a different antibiotic and after Luca didn't improve, Dr. Leslie and Luca's mom decided to schedule a rhinoscopy.
Luckily, we were able to get her scheduled quickly with our traveling otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat doctor!). When we got Luca anesthetized, he used a camera to take a closer look at her sinuses and found grass! Using specialized tools, we were able to pull a piece of grass from Luca's nose that measured 3 inches long! ๐ฒ ๐ฒ We can imagine why that was causing her so much trouble!
After just a few days, Luca was already feeling better and now she is back to her usual self! โค๏ธ

MYTH BUSTED! You only need to give heartworm prevention during the summer.
Heartworm prevention works by killing any microfilaria (baby worms) that may have infected your pet over the last month, or sometimes longer. Microfilaria travel throughout the blood system for 6-7 months before maturing into adult heartworms in the heart. It is during this phase that heartworm prevention can kill the microfilaria.
So if your dog was bitten at the end of summer, the heartworm prevention can still be killing microfilaria in December.
Make sure your pet gets their heartworm prevention every month all year round. Give us a call to discuss the best preventative for your pet!
It's National Dog Bite Prevention Week and the first step to prevention is education!
Do you know how to recognize a nervous dog? Here are a few of the most common signs:
- Whale eye is a term used to describe the white portion of a whale's eye that becomes visible when they roll their eye in a certain direction to keep watch on something without moving their head.
- When a dog is feeling frightened or stressed, they may tense up their muscles, causing their back to hunch. This defensive posture can also be a way for the dog to appear smaller and less threatening in the face of a perceived threat.
- Dogs often tuck their tail between their legs when they are nervous as a way to protect themselves and show submission.
- Lip licking and yawning are both self-soothing behaviors, similar to how humans might bite their nails or tap their foot when feeling nervous.
Remember to approach nervous dogs with caution and only when necessary!

Today is Specially-Abled Pets Day and we wanted to highlight just one of the amazing pets we see. This sweetheart is Fuji! After an episode of intervertebral disc disease, he was left partially paralyzed in his hind end. To help him, his parents got him a wheelchair and he is rocking it! Although we are unsure what Hank's future may hold, he and Kelly are making the most of every single day. Hank recently celebrated his fourth birthday and we made sure that he felt extra special. Hank doesn't know he's sick, but he does know he gets to spend a lot of time with his momma and his friends and that makes him very happy. We love you Hanky! โค
