As we step into 2026, our clinic is undergoing some changes, and it’s with a heavy heart that we announce the conclusion of our wildlife services. For many decades, we’ve had the privilege of being one of Frederick's few veterinary hospitals licensed to care for wild animals, a distinction that has filled us with pride.
We’ve cherished every moment spent promoting the health of our local wildlife, providing these services free of charge thanks to the dedication of our amazing doctors and staff who volunteered their time.
While this decision is bittersweet, we remain committed to the health and well-being of all animals. Thank you for your support and understanding as we transition into this new chapter. Together, we can continue to make a positive impact in our community!

If you encounter orphaned or injured wildlife, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 301-662-2322. We’re here to help guide you through the process. We have a dedicated veterinary assistant who is a licensed rehabilitator and can accept orphans on a case-by-case basis. Your support helps us continue to care for our local wildlife! Thank you for being a caring member of our community!

🚨 URGENT: FIRST URGENT LIST OF 2026 🚨

Our first urgent list of the year is here — and there are so many great dogs on it! 22 dogs must leave the Prince George’s County Animal Shelter by Tuesday, January 13 at 7 PM.

As always, this list is heartbreaking - so many deserve a chance! We haven’t met them all yet, but so many seem wonderful. Friendly, hopeful, and waiting for someone to step up. 🐾

📸 This is just the initial collage.
We’ll be posting the full album with individual bios later tonight, so stay tuned and please keep sharing.

✨ A hopeful note for our community:
Many of you have been following the repeal of Breed-Specific Legislation (BSL) in PG County. According to a recent update from PG Pet Unity Project, the repeal is expected to go into effect around February 2, 2026. Change is coming — and advocacy works. 🩷

👉 If you can adopt, foster, rescue, pledge, or share, you can save a life.
Time is short, and every single action matters.

These dogs are at the Prince Georges County animal shelter in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Thank you for showing up for these dogs — again and again. 💙🐶

🚨 12/23/25 URGENT LIST — 20 DOGS NEED OUT 🚨

🎅 Santa’s elves are working overtime, the sleigh bells are jingling, and we are really hoping there’s some holiday magic left to spare… because 20 incredible dogs need a miracle by Tuesday, December 23 at 7 PM.

✨ Just last week, this community pulled off something truly magical — 29 dogs found safety because of YOU. That kind of miracle proves what’s possible when people rally together, and we are holding onto that hope again today.

🎄 Good news to sprinkle in: at least 7 of these dogs are breeds that ARE adoptable within PG County, which means there are real opportunities for local adopters to step up right now.

🎨 Full transparency: You’ll notice some of the photos have simple holiday backgrounds added using AI. We made every effort to keep the dogs’ photos fully intact and unchanged — just a little seasonal cheer to help them stand out. 🎁 We’ll also try to post intake photos in the comments when available.

These dogs don’t need perfection — they need people willing to open their hearts during one of the hardest weeks of the year for shelters. 💔➡️❤️

⚠️ Important Note About Terriers (BSL)
Due to current Breed-Specific Legislation, terrier-type dogs must be adopted or fostered outside PG County.
📄 Out-of-county adopters must bring two documents showing the same address.

🙌 GOOD NEWS!
On 11/18/25, PG County passed Bill 097-2025, launching a pilot that will finally allow terriers to be adopted/fostered within PG County starting January 2026! 🎉

🙋‍♀️ FAQs
• Why so many urgent dogs? Overcrowding + BSL restrictions. Shelter space is extremely limited.
• Can I adopt if I live outside PG County? YES. Out-of-county adopters save lives every single week.
• How many dogs can I meet? You may meet up to two per visit.
• What are the adoption fees? Fees vary by weight (larger dogs cost less).
• How do I foster? Urgent dogs must leave through approved rescue partners.
👉 Comment on a dog’s post or message us — we’ll help connect you.

💗 Every share. Every pledge. Every foster. Every adopter. Every inquiry.
✨ It all counts. It all saves lives.
🎄 Let’s see if we can make holiday magic happen — together.

🩷🎄💚UPDATE 12/22: Safe!🩷🎄💚

🚨 URGENT: STIMPY MUST LEAVE BY TUESDAY, 12/23 AT 7 PM 🚨
Please arrive at least 1 hour before closing to meet him!

🐾 Meet Stimpy (A564245)
🐶 ~6 months old • ♂️ Male • ⚖️ ~25 lbs (and growing!)

At just around 5–6 months old and already 25 pounds, Stimpy is a happy, wiggly puppy with a big heart and an even bigger personality. He’s very much in that fun, curious stage of life where everything is exciting and every moment feels like an adventure.

Stimpy is a quick learner who’s already working on “sit” and is eager to please — especially when treats are involved. Like any young pup, he’ll need guidance with basics like training and housetraining, but he’s clearly ready to learn and grow alongside someone who’s willing to invest the time.

In playgroup, Stimpy did very well, confidently playing with larger dogs and showing that he can hold his own while still keeping things fun. Puppies like Stimpy are a 10–15 year commitment full of joy, laughter, cuddles, and yes — a few puppy mishaps along the way.

If you’re ready for a lifetime of love, learning, and tail wags, Stimpy is ready to start that journey with you.

UPDATE: Sherry has 3 interested adopters and one interested foster!! 🥳

Sherry just received her rabies vaccine and microchip, so she is OFFICIALLY able to leave for foster-to-adopt TODAY! Now all she needs is someone with no other dogs who wants to come home to this face every day!

Sherry is an 8-year-old, blind, Shar Pei/Cocker Spaniel mix. She will have a procedure at the shelter next Tuesday to alleviate the pain and pressure in her eyes due to glaucoma. Sherry's developed quite the following since she arrived after the death of her owner. She's just the happiest, most loving, laidback girl there is!

If you have no other dogs and live within an hour of the shelter, come meet Sherry today! But be warned: you WILL fall in love with her. Adoption fees are just $75 for all dogs through the end of the month.

🐕: Sherry has never lived with other dogs and doesn't want to. She will need to be the only dog in her home.
👫: While Sherry has never lived with children, she has met them and has done well with them.
🐈: Sherry may do well with cats. She's never lived with them before, but she can't see them, can't really smell them, and can't outrun them. We recommend slow introductions.
🩺: Sherry is 8 years old and weighs 53 pounds (though she needs to lose at least 8 pounds). She is blind and has glaucoma, but her bloodwork indicates she is otherwise healthy. At the time of her adoption, she will come spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped.
