📢 Panting in cats is not normal!

This is valuable information from Pam Johnson-Bennett of Cat Behavior Associates. If you see a cat panting, please attend to it right away as it may be in distress and critically ill or injured. Please get the animal help as quickly as possible!

We've had the displeasure of witnessing several panting cats in our time. One we'll never forget is a kitten that had been kicked, resulting in a broken spine. He had been panting before the vet humanely ended his suffering. Even though there were no outward signs of injury -- and it was not a hot day -- this kitten's panting told us that something was critically wrong. In our experience, more often than not, a panting cat is in need of immediate medical attention.🩺

At least 10% of cats develop issues with their litter box during their life, either due to a medical condition, or a behavioral problem. While medical problems can't be avoided, there are some things you can do to prevent your cat from developing a behavioral problem with their litter box.
Here are 4 easy steps to help your cat love the litter box! 😸
𝟭. 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗼𝘅 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗰𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗼𝘅.
Some cats are extremely picky about the cleanliness of their box and we can't blame them! Having the appropriate number of boxes helps ensure your cat always has a clean place to go!
𝟮. 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗼𝘅 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲.
Making litter boxes as accessible as possible will help ensure your cat uses the box and not your rug!
𝟯. 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘅𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲.
We all know that cats hate loud noises and keeping their boxes in a loud area (i.e. the laundry room) often causes them to avoid that box. Make sure your litter boxes are in a quiet, secluded area of the home so your cat isn't disturbed while trying to do their business!
𝟰. 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗽 𝗯𝗼𝘅𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆.
Not only will this help to decrease the dreaded litterbox odor, but who wants to use a dirty toilet?

Remember that if your cat isn't using the litterbox, the first step is always to rule out a medical problem, but these are great tips to help curb any unwanted litterbox behaviors!
