💔 I haven’t had the energy or words to post this.

I put Nova down this week.

She was 14 years old. She had been slowing down over the last few weeks, but I didn’t think it would happen this quickly. 😭

With her eyes, she let me know she was done. Within a few days, her body did too.

🐺 Nova was my first. She taught me so much. She was my sidekick, my pain in the ass, my best friend. She wasn’t an easy dog, but in her difficulties, we understood each other.

When I needed to go out into the woods, she took me. And when she needed to go into the woods, I took her.

She was always at the front of the pack — teaching the others, proud of her job as leader. It was hard watching her body force her to slow down.

She had such a spirit.

In the end, she didn’t want to go up the 3 steps to the house anymore, but she still jumped into the car to go to the vet one last time.

Once we got there, she laid down, ready.

I had to let her go, even though every part of me wanted more time.

And now she’s gone, and here I am. 💔

I’m so grateful for all the volunteers helping me hold everything together right now.
