Oregon Friends: With wildfire season in effect, now is a good time to spend 10 minutes preparing—not panicking.
Here are a few things everyone should check today:
✅ Dwelling Coverage – Would your policy realistically rebuild your home at today’s construction costs?
✅ Extended Replacement Cost – Do you have additional coverage if rebuilding costs surge after a widespread wildfire?
✅ Personal Property – Is the amount covering everything you own actually enough?
✅ Loss of Use (Additional Living Expenses) – If you’re forced to evacuate for weeks or months, will your policy help pay for a hotel, rent, meals, and other extra expenses?
✅ Deductibles – Make sure you know what you’ll be responsible for if you have a claim.
If you live in or near an evacuation area:
* 📸 Walk through your home and record a video of each room.
* 📁 Save important documents to the cloud.
* 💊 Pack medications, chargers, IDs, passports, and pet supplies.
* 📦 Have a “go bag” ready before you’re told to leave.
* 🚗 Keep your gas tank at least half full.
* 📲 Enable emergency alerts on your phone.
One thing I always tell my clients: The day before a loss is the best day to review your insurance.
If you’re not sure whether your policy has the right protection, I’m happy to review it with you—even if I’m not your current agent. I’d much rather help someone prepare than have to explain why something wasn’t covered after a wildfire.
Stay safe, Oregon.
