This Fundraising Friday, Meet Pogo. 🐾🍉
Last Thursday, we got a heartbreaking call. Someone found an injured dog in their backyard, very hot and hardly moving. We think another animal hurt him.
Our Community Support Team quickly went to help and found Pogo covered in blood, breathing hard, and close to dying. They rushed him back to Gateway’s Pet Resource Center, where our Vet team was ready. They quickly gave him fluids, treated his wounds, and cooled him down. After making him as comfortable as they could, our Director of Operations, Jill, took him home to care for him overnight. We knew he had a long, uncertain recovery ahead.
But he wasn't ready to give up. His tail never stopped wagging.
He made it through the night. The next morning, he was back for assessment, where they determined he needed a blood transfusion. Luckily, our Development Director’s greyhound was ready to help. Greyhounds are universal blood donors for dogs, so Millie and her mom kindly volunteered her to help Pogo. (Don't worry, she got a tasty burger as a thank you.)
Pogo has made an amazing recovery. Every day he gets a little better and keeps wagging his tail. This sweet old dog still has a long way to go, and we will be with him all the way. He will continue to have check-ups during his recovery, with help from our vet clinic and Jill’s watchful care.
Pogo’s medical care would have cost more than $5,000 at a regular vet clinic. Even though we were lucky to have a great clinic team and a blood donor, many treatments, such as fluids, antibiotics, and other life-saving care, still cost a lot. But his life is worth every dollar to us.
By making a gift today, you can help cover the cost of Pogo’s care and recovery, along with the care of the next Pogo we need to save.
