🐾 A Few Tips for a Fear-Free Halloween

Halloween is fun for us humans, but between the constant doorbell ringing, unfamiliar visitors, and people dressed in strange costumes, it can be overwhelming for our pets!

Here are a few ways to help your pup enjoy the evening:

Keep those paws busy! Fill a lick mat, stuff an enrichment toy, or offer a long-lasting chew before trick-or-treating begins. Giving your dog something enjoyable to focus on can help keep them occupied while the neighborhood gets spooky.

Create a cozy escape. Set up a quiet room away from the front door with their favorite bed, toys, and some background music. If your pup is easily startled, consider keeping them away from the trick-or-treating action altogether.

Plan ahead for anxious pups. If your dog struggles with Halloween anxiety, stock up on our C*D treats to keep your pup calm and happy!

And remember: keep the chocolate, candy, and especially anything containing xylitol far away from curious noses!

Happy Howl-o-ween from Ciao Chow! 🧡

Thank you for continuing to shop small and support your neighborhood pet store. We hope you and your furry little monsters have a safe, fun, and treat-filled Halloween!

See you Saturday!

BOO! 👻 Let's Talk Halloween Treats!

Halloween is almost here, and while we're all about the tricks, treats, and adorable dog costumes, not everything in your candy bowl is safe for your four-legged trick-or-treater!

Before your pup gives you those irresistible puppy eyes, here's a little Halloween cheat sheet to keep those tails wagging and spooky nights free of emergency vet visits!

🎃 THE NICE LIST

Treats your pup CAN enjoy!

Plain pumpkin: A fall favorite! Plain cooked pumpkin or 100% pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling).

Apples: Crunchy, sweet, and delicious! Just remove the core and seeds.

Carrots: A naturally sweet, crunchy snack.

Blueberries: Little bite-sized goodies packed with antioxidants.

Dog-friendly bakery treats: Because your pup deserves Halloween goodies of their own!

Remember: Everything in moderation, and always serve treats in appropriately sized pieces!

💀 THE NAUGHTY LIST

Keep these Halloween horrors away from your pup!

Chocolate: Especially dark chocolate and baking chocolate. Both contain compounds toxic to dogs.

Xylitol (birch sugar): Found in some sugar-free candies, gums, and other sweets. Extremely dangerous for dogs!

Raisins & grapes: Even small amounts can cause serious kidney damage.

Candy corn & sugary sweets: High sugar content can cause digestive upset, and some sugar-free varieties contain dangerous sweeteners.

Candy wrappers: They may smell delicious, but swallowing them can cause choking or intestinal blockages.

A little spooky reminder: If your pup gets into something potentially toxic, don't wait for symptoms! Contact your veterinarian or an animal poison control service right away.

Come back!

Hi Ciao Chow family! 🐾

We know it’s HOT out there. 🥵 And while we absolutely understand that the heat can make you want to stay home (and let your pups stay nice and cool, too!), we want you to know just how much we appreciate your support through every season.

We’re already dreaming of those cooler days when we can see all of our favorite faces — two-legged and four-legged — coming through the door again. But until then, there are plenty of ways to support your local pet shop without having to brave the heat!

Did you know we offer local delivery AND shipping right from our online shop?

Whether your pup needs food, treats, a new toy, chews, bakery goodies, or their everyday essentials, you can shop from the comfort of your air-conditioned home and we’ll help get it to you. 🏠🐶

Why shopping local matters

Small businesses are the backbone of our communities. We’re your neighbors, your friends, and the people who live, work, and invest right here in St. Louis.

And just like everyone else, small businesses are feeling the effects of the current economy. Every purchase at a locally owned shop makes a difference — especially when you choose a local business over a big-box store or a giant online retailer.

When you shop at Ciao Chow, you’re not just buying a bag of treats. You’re helping support a small, locally owned business that puts those dollars right back into our community.

And we’re proud to offer a little bit of everything for your pup under one roof:

🐾 Food & everyday essentials
🦴 Treats & chews
🍪 Our homemade, in-house dog bakery
🎾 Toys & enrichment
🛁 Self-wash
📦 Online shipping
🚗 Local delivery

So whether you stop in when the weather cools down, order online, schedule a delivery, or simply tell a friend about us — every bit of support means the world to us.

We can’t wait for those crisp, cooler days when we get to see you and your pups again. Until then, stay cool, stay safe, give those dogs some extra belly rubs, and know that we’re incredibly grateful to have such an amazing community behind us. ❤️

Thank you for continuing to choose local.
Thank you for choosing Ciao Chow.
And most importantly, thank you for letting us spoil your pups. 🐶❤️
