Dr. Richard Coe and Dr. Susan Coe, both graduates of Auburn University, established Animal Medical Hospital in 1983. After moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, they bought a 50-year-old home on Monroe Road and refurbished it as Animal Medical Hospital. By 1992, the practice had outgrown the space and it was replaced with a brand new facility at the same site. When the hospital moved into the new f

acility, it was awarded “Hospital of the Year” by Veterinary Economics magazine. The current setting comprises over 26,000 square feet spread over two floors. A large treatment area provides space for care and treatment for outpatient services. We have multiple examination rooms, an isolation ward, radiology room, and separate surgery and dental suites. Our spacious reception area includes a retail area where we offer veterinarian-recommended products. Our boarding facility, Camp AMH, provides a home away from home for your pets. Camp AMH includes separate rooms with hi definition TVs for our feline guests and a brand new indoor/outdoor play facility for our canine guests. Camp AMH is temperature controlled with a heating and air conditioning unit, ensuring that your pets stay at a comfortable temperature despite the weather outside. Our fully comprehensive hospital offers care for your pet every day of the year, 24 hours a day, even on holidays. We look forward to meeting you and your pet! As of June 2023, AMH has expanded even further to now offer internal medicine. We are excited to help our community and keep growing as a hospital.

🐾 August is National Immunization Awareness Month! 🐾

Did you know one of the most important vaccines for your cat is the Feline Leukemia (FeLV) vaccine?

😺 What is Feline Leukemia?
Feline Leukemia Virus is a contagious and potentially life-threatening disease that weakens your cat’s immune system, making them more vulnerable to infections, anemia, and even certain cancers.

💉 Why is the vaccine important?
Even if your cat stays indoors, the FeLV vaccine offers essential protection—especially if there’s any chance they may come in contact with other cats. Early prevention can save your pet’s life and stop the spread of the virus to others.

😿 How is it spread?
FeLV is most commonly transmitted through saliva, nasal secretions, grooming, shared food/water bowls, or even a bite from an infected cat. Kittens and younger cats are particularly vulnerable.

📞 Don’t wait—your cat’s health matters! Give us a call today or visit our website to schedule your pet’s next vaccine appointment. Let’s keep your furry family member safe, healthy, and protected. ❤️

Our Story

When the hospital moved into the new facility, it was awarded “Hospital of the Year” by Veterinary Economics magazine. The current setting comprises over 18,000 square feet spread over two floors. A large treatment area provides space for care and treatment for outpatient services. Also included are an in-house laboratory and pharmacy. We have multiple examination rooms, an isolation ward, radiology room, and separate surgery and dental suites. Our spacious reception area includes a retail area where we offer veterinarian-recommended products. In 2009, a dedicated Intensive Care Unit was built adjacent to the hospital, which houses patients for 24-hour care, including hospitalized patients and special-needs boarding pets. Our boarding facility, Camp AMH, provides a home away from home for your pets. The updates and expansion in 2014 were geared towards the comfort of the pets who stay with us. Camp AMH includes separate rooms with hi definition TVs for our feline guests and a brand new indoor/outdoor play and training facility for our canine guests.
