Our hospital is closed today as we honor and celebrate freedom by celebrating Juneteenth ❤️🖤💚

June 19, 1865 – more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation – the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally told they were free.

Today, we honor that moment.
We celebrate resilience.
We uplift Black voices, culture, and excellence.
We reflect on how far we’ve come – and how far we still have to go.

✨ “Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.” – Fannie Lou Hamer

The is strong at QCAH team members’ Brooke and April’s house this morning. They’ve got cut from their garden in the oven, nearly ready to share with our kitty patients. Their resident cats, Maggie and Lumi, are loving the smell coming from the oven!

🚨Rabies Case Confirmed in Mecklenburg County🚨

A recent case of rabies has been confirmed in our community. It’s a good reminder to double-check that your dogs, cats, and ferrets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations.

Keeping your pets vaccinated helps protect them—and your family—from this serious but preventable disease.

If you’re not sure about your pet’s status, a quick call to your vet can help. Stay safe and healthy, everyone! 💉❤️

Today’s hard-hitting question: Why do cats go wild for catnip? 🐾🌿
Our Registered Veterinary Technician, Brooke, breaks it down while giving Lumiere a check-up—and yes, he’s a fan.

Tune in to learn what makes this leafy treat so irresistible (hint: it’s all in the chemistry). 💚

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
As we celebrate their legacy this Memorial Day, don’t forget to keep your pets safe during the festivities.
Fireworks, hot grills, and summer treats can be hazardous to furry family members — let’s make sure everyone has a safe and peaceful holiday.

This month, our team at QCAH learned a new spay technique just for guinea pigs — and it’s a game changer! It’s faster, safer, and uses less anesthesia, which means smoother recoveries for our little patients.

Here’s why it matters: Over 50% of intact female guinea pigs develop painful ovarian cysts. Spaying helps prevent that entirely — giving them a healthier, more comfortable life.

We’re happy to share that all the piggies are doing great and are now cozy in their new forever homes! 🏡💕

We love what we do — and we’re proud to keep improving care for every creature that walks, hops, or squeaks through our door.

Who wants to adopt an adorable guinea pig? Meet Bertha! Bertha came to us from Animal Care & Control a couple of weeks ago so that we could spay her and foster her through her recovery process. Now, she's ready for her forever family!
She's with us for another day or so, and then will be back at Animal Care and Control. Please let us know if you want to learn more about her!
