The lads' favourite horse, The Black Prince, is entered in the BJW Motors 2022 Limited 1700m at Awapuni Racecourse on Sunday.

He’s developed a bit of a cult following. His last-start win at Hawera resurrected many broken souls (including myself) on Day 3 of NRL Magic Round in Brisbane. After being tipped to 200+ strangers over that weekend, a lot of money was made and promptly donated to Caxton Street shortly afterwards.

Anyway, we're very pleased to have the in-form Merena Hudson aboard again. She rode him brilliantly last start and had a nice listed winner just a few weeks ago with another peach ride.

The synthetic surface is a big unknown. Several runners in the field have experience on it, and we had little choice but to head this way following the New Plymouth abandonment and the lack of suitable options at Woodville. He has drawn barrier one.

That said, when I saw him at trackwork last Saturday, he was bouncing out of his skin and very keen. If he handles the surface, he's a cheeky chance. The ability is there. Not to mention Sharrock Racing has been in very good form.

Good luck to our owners and connections.

She was worth the wait! Attractiveness bolts in at Newcastle.

A brilliant weekend and even better owners. Congratulations team, onwards and upwards! 🤝

We have three runners this weekend across New Zealand and Australia.

Friday – New Plymouth

R7 – RFL New Zealand Ltd 1400m

Ryders Legacy (King’s Legacy x Peace Palace) – Barrier 13

This marks the start of his new preparation after last being seen winning his maiden at New Plymouth back in January. He’s in for a nice campaign and we’re looking forward to seeing him get up over more ground. The wide barrier could prove an advantage in the Heavy conditions, especially later in the day. We have in-form apprentice Toni Davies engaged to ride, who has ridden 12 winners from her past 50 starters.

The Black Prince (Derryn x Party Ice) – Barrier 4

Won very well at Hawera last start and the sectionals were excellent. The talent has always been there, although he’s a horse known to “bludge” in his races and requires a bit of vigorous riding to switch on. He’s currently at a pretty appealing each-way price. Ashlee Strawbridge is declared to ride after producing a good winner yesterday at Riccarton.

Saturday – Newcastle

R7 – Signature Stables Australia 1250m

Attractiveness (Hello Youmzain x Hot In High Heels)

We’ve finally got her back to the races after a series of unfortunate setbacks. She’s a very progressive filly and we expect her to work through this grade quickly. We think she’ll be at her best over a mile this preparation, being out of a High Chaparral mare. Hello Youmzain has produced a strong string of 3YO winners in Australia recently, so we’ll see if she can add to that on Saturday.

Special Mention:
Hidden Spark ran a very brave fourth yesterday after bungling the start badly and not appreciating the Heavy10 conditions. She’ll now head for a nice break before we target some fillies races in the spring.

Good luck to our owners and connections!

TAKE TWO: Hidden Spark races tomorrow in the 2YO event at Trentham, with Chris Dell engaged to ride.

I really like this filly. I have a lot of respect for Robbie Patterson’s runner Shamella Kirk, who is a deserving favourite.

If Pookie can handle the Heavy ground, I think she’ll give the race a real shake.

It should be a fun race.

Great to see former Inspire Racing horse Opetaia (now named Cruiserweight) win impressively on debut for the Hayes boys. Originally named after the famous cruiserweight boxer, a sport the Corban brothers have a proud history in.

Opetaia was a dominant 5¾-length winner for us on New Year’s Eve at New Plymouth with Sharrock Racing.

Naturally, he was very popular on the tried horse market. Every horse we’ve traded overseas has gone on to win races, creating a fantastic win-win situation for all involved.

The Inspire Racing and Sharrock Racing partnership continues to prove formidable. Every horse purchased and put through the Sharrock system has produced a 100% winners-to-runners strike rate.

We have Hidden Spark (Pookie) racing in the Let’s Keep Racing at Trentham Supporters Club 2YO Sprint at Trentham on Saturday, with in-form apprentice Triston Moodley declared to ride.

She is a lovely medium-sized filly by Bivouac, purchased out of the Cambridge Stud draft. She has shown good natural talent leading into her raceday debut, and it will be interesting to see how she handles the wetter track conditions. There will be plenty to learn from the experience, but we believe Pookie has a very nice future ahead.

The syndicate also has a great younger crowd involved, so if she happens to win, Matthew might have his work cut out for him trying to make his evening flight.

Attractiveness has now recovered from the virus that delayed her second preparation. She is pencilled in for an Open 1030m trial at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow, and providing everything goes to plan, she is expected to resume in a Class 1 1200m race eight days later.

We also have a few runners set to be nominated for the New Plymouth meeting next weekend. Looking forward to getting back down there and catching up with some great people 🐎🍷🕺

Hey team. Attractiveness was late scratched at the barriers. She is okay and could potentially race on Saturday. Appreciate all the messages! She'll keep, lovely filly. Cheers!

Nice win by The Black Prince. A pearler of a ride by Merena Hudson. She really got the best out of him on the day.

The ability has always been there with The Black Prince. He just needed the penny to drop. He's still lightly raced and, being out of a Savabeel mare, we think he can develop into a very nice stayer.

Great to see Sharrock Racing bring up a hat-trick of wins on the day. Well deserved as always and consistently one of the best strike rate teams in the game.

This win capped off an outstanding weekend spent with a group of owners and friends at the NRL Magic Round in Brisbane.

A wonderful result for everyone involved 🤝

Two runners across two countries over the next few days. 🌏

We have The Black Prince racing at Hawera this Sunday in the Spray It Maiden 1600m. He has drawn barrier 7 and will be ridden by Merena Hudson.

His last two runs have been okay without setting the world on fire, but his work leading into this race has been very pleasing and he has had a nice gap between runs. He does have ability and could run a cheeky race if he can reproduce an effort similar to his debut performance.

Attractiveness:

Attractiveness has accepted for the BM64 1200m at Newcastle and has drawn barrier 8. She will be ridden by Chad Schofield.

Her previous two trials have been good, and physically she has come back much stronger than last preparation. We’re looking forward to stepping her up to a mile this campaign, as we believe she has a bright future ahead.

Good luck to our owners and connections 🤝

We’ve added another young and up-and-coming training partnership to the team — Max and Sam Van Lierde of VL Racing.

We’ve already placed two new additions into their stable and are excited to support their journey. They’re brilliant horsemen and hardworking young trainers with a strong future ahead.

We’re passionate about backing the next generation, and we’ll be adding another young training talent to the team very soon 🐎
