Over the weekend, we saw an impressive number of thoroughbreds shining across a range of disciplines nationwide. This week, we're putting the spotlight on Big Mike (Don Eduardo x Landvetter) as once a successful stayer now collecting ribbons in the show ring ❤️

Once a fierce competitor on the track, winning multiple cup races both here and in Australia, 'Mike' and rider Leigh Phelan claimed the Champion Novice Riding Horse at their home town Rotorua A&P Show. Bred by Geoff and Sally Fausset, Mike has been part of the Phelan family since he was a two-year-old, trained throughout his racing career by Leigh’s father Craig and brother Shaun at Phelan Racing. He retired as a rising ten-year-old with an impressive 16 wins from 56 starts, and continues to shine in his new discipline. As a now 13-year-old, Mike is a great example of older thoroughbreds being able to learn new tricks! 😍
