A triple whammy of Kereru going home 😁 😍
1, hit by a car in Puhio & rescued by the lovely people at Puhio Cottage Tearooms, almost 3 weeks in rehab.
2, Arrived with a leg & wing injury after 6 weeks in rehab was able to go home to Snells Beach.
3, Arrived with a head injury & very skinny due to being riddled with mites. Needed to be hand fed for the first two weeks & took almost 3 months before it could fly well enough to be released. We use adjustable perches in the aviaries lifting them weekly until they’re up up and away.

This Kererū was just released home. Through an impact it needed anti-inflammatory and to be force fed for the first few days every couple hours. So rewarding to see how far its come. Within 2 minutes of release it was reunited with it’s life-long mate which shows how important it is for them to be released back to where they came from (see pic) 🥰

This kereru is a little different to most as it came to us as a baby. It was with us for 12 weeks before we could soft release it. A soft release means it comes and goes for food at the start, but grows out of this over time.

This beauty came to us end of April after he flew into a window at Willow Lodge, was force fed for the first 5 days of rehab, finally released back home this morning 😍
