🌟 Happy Vet Nurse Awareness Week! 🌟

This week at CareVets Mt Wellington, we’re celebrating the amazing work our vet nurses do every single day. 🐾💚

From comforting nervous pets, assisting in surgeries, managing treatments, to keeping the clinic running smoothly day in and day out – our nurses do it all, and they do it with heart, skill, and endless dedication

A big shoutout to our amazing team – we see you, we appreciate you, and we’re so lucky to have you

To help celebrate, we were treated to a delicious spread

If you see one of our vet nurses this week, be sure to give them an extra smile or a thank you – they’ve earned it!

Here’s Bruno again! he’s come along way since his degloving injury and look how cute he is in this photo 🥺🥰

He is currently under the care of the raining rabbits rescue and comes to us for daily bandage dressing so if you’d like to help out, please donate to the RRR charity

🎉🐾 Ernie Turns 18 Today! 🐾🎉

Our hearts (and bellies!) are full today thanks to a very special feline friend — Ernie, who just turned 18 years old! 💙🐱

To celebrate this incredible milestone, Ernie’s lovely owner surprised us with some delicious cakes 🎂— and we couldn’t be more touched!

Ernie has been a longtime visitor at our clinic, and watching him grow into a wise, whiskered gentleman has been such a joy. He’s a true testament to the love and lifelong bond between pets and their humans. 💫

Please join us in sending Ernie lots of love and purrs on his big day! 💌🎈

Is your dog acting stressed when you leave the house? They might be experiencing separation anxiety — and it’s more common than many people think.
Here’s what it might look like:

• Getting worked up when you pick up your keys or put on your
• Barking, whining, howling when left
• Destructive behaviour at doors or windows
• Restlessness, pacing, housesoiling even if they’re otherwise trained What you can do to help:

1. Create a safe space (a comfy “den”) so they feel secure and can’t hurt themselves if they panic
2. Gradually build up alone time — start small, and make sure they aren’t distressed.
3. Change your cues: do things like pick up your keys without leaving, so they’re less of a trigger.
4. Reward calm behaviour, and leave special toys or puzzles for when you're out.
5. Keep your own arrivals/departures lowkey — dramatic goodbyes or overthetop welcomes can make anxiety worse.

If your dog’s anxiety seems severe, or isn’t improving, don’t hesitate to ask us at CareVets Mt Wellington — behaviourists, vets, and sometimes medication can help. With patience and the right support, most dogs can learn to be OK when home alone. 🏡💙

🌧️ Stuck Inside? Keep Your Pet Entertained! 🐾
Rainy days don’t have to mean bored pets—mental stimulation is just as important as walks. Try these easy indoor enrichment ideas:

🧠 Food puzzles & treat toys
Turn mealtime into playtime with slow feeders or treat-dispensing toys.

🐶 DIY sniff games
Hide treats around the house or in a rolled-up towel to activate your pet’s nose.

🎾 Quick training sessions
5–10 mins of learning tricks or commands = a great brain workout (and bonding time!).

🐕 Interactive play
Tug, fetch, or chase—just watch those slippery floors!

🦴 Rotate toys
Keep things fresh by swapping toys every few days.

Even a few minutes a day can reduce boredom, barking, and bedtime zoomies!

💬 Need help picking the right enrichment toys? Ask us at CareVets Mt Wellington—we’re here to help
