I never usually do rehoming posts.
But this young patterjack came to me from an owner who is having a very difficult time at present and wanted what was best for this girl.
She is 2yr old, hasn't been socialised so we have been working very hard on her nervous reactive behaviour towards other dogs. She's almost a blank sheet!!!
Can walk on lead, is house trained.
Not tested with small children. She will require ongoing training to help with her nervous behaviour. She loves humans but will need to be an only dog.
She's very food motivated now, but easily distracted if other dogs are around.

Trying to teach your dog an emergency stop is no mean feet!!! It takes time, patience, and confidence in your own ability to ensure your dog understands.
An emergency stop down or sit can save both you and your dog from situations.
We will do some videos during the week of 1 of our dogs doing an emergency stop while chasing a ball to show you how it works.

For puppies only, please bring a matt/towel or something for them to sit on, and you may need a towel to dry them 😄

Fantastic day at Swanley, brushing up on our own handling skills.
Due to the heat, all work was done in 10min bursts, with dogs being soaked, and under fans in-between.
It's so important to keep up to date with your own skills as naughty habits do creep in!!!
Also had the privilege of meeting a nasdu assessor!!

COMMON SENSE
it's hot outside, pavements are hot, tarmac is hot, and artificial grass is hot.
There is a slight breeze, but that is also warm! If you can then walk your dogs very early or very late, remember if you can't stand on a pavement barefoot for 10 seconds, then don't take your dogs out!!! Find shaded areas if you can.
Ensure your dog has plenty of water to drink.
Avoid any high-energy games, running, etc, as this will cause your dog to overheat.
Even the fittest dogs can suffer in this heat.
Stay safe. No dog ever died from missing a walk, but dogs can die from heatstroke.

Can you teach an old dog new tricks!!
Hell yes!!!! Here's an 8-year-old learning to search using her nose (hunt drive) instead of her eyes! (Prey drive).
Just throwing a ball, toy constantly will only benefit you, and wear your dogs joints out. Try getting them to hunt for their toys,ball, etc. It's a more rewarding experience for both owner and dog.

Straight after class, we attended the local fun dog show!!!
Congratulations to Bruce, Sash, jlo, rolo, Buddy, nel, Nora, and all of our class members. Don't be down hearted if you didn't win, be proud of yourselves that you had the courage to work your dogs in a very busy environment.
I personally couldn't have been more proud of how well all the dogs behaved!!
Such a stressful environment, hot, lots of dogs not under control and ours just walked through like nothing was going on.
To us you are all winners!!!

Both classes worked on heal work, off lead obedience, and staying relaxed around other dogs.
Having the confidence to let your lead go isn't easy!!. Recalling your dog from distractions without panic takes time and constant training, bounding is key.
