I studied an animal care course at Canterbury college in BTEC first diploma. When leaving college I started full time as a kennel assistant in a boarding and rescue kennels in Ospringe near Faversham. At this kennels I also cared for sheep, horses, ferrets, cats and chickens. After three years being a kennel maid I then pursued my career in working with animals and started as a security dog handler. I worked for Abbey Security in which I worked with a German shepherd and completed a security dog handler course with my dog 'Aggie' called NASDU. After two and a half years, I continued as a security dog handler for Ward Security and worked with my Rottweiler called 'Prince'. During this time I completed and passed a course for basic first aid, fixed penalty notices and achieved employee of the month twice for dog related incidents. After three years service, I then started my own business and became self employed in animal care services. I currently offer dog walking with the intention of expanding to further services as the business progresses. Animals are my biggest passion and I am happiest when surrounded by them! Starting out volunteering at a veterinary surgery while i was on my last year at school gained me a lot of insights and knowledge about the care pets needed and required. This confirmed my love of animals and my want to pursue a career in this. I decided to gain experience at a local greyhound stadium at weekends while i was studying animal care at Canterbury college. Upon completing and successfully passing my course, I immediately searched for work at many vet surgeries, where i was told to gain more physical experience. I became a kennel maid at a dog and cat rescue/boarding establishment and enjoyed my time there. I then wanted to pursue my career further and start work within the dog handler sector in security guarding. I owned a German shepherd and a rottweiler during my time in security guarding and gained knowledge in dog training for guard dogs. This was an intense and important part of my dog handling which i took very seriously and learnt a lot in this part of the job. It came to a point in my life i was ready to start a family and remaining in the security industry would not be an appropriate path to stay in, once i had my first child. Once i decided to create my own dog walking business, i knew from that point it would be something i would enjoy and be able to work around childcare etc. 10 years on, i have not once regretted taking the leap to start this business and it has continued to grow and thrive with the thanks to many of my loyal customers! I have gained a lot of experience in the care and support animals need and require, during my working history. Please take a look around my page and feel free to message me If you’d like to find out more.

Happy 5th birthday to this handsome chap!
Ball obsessed, but it doesn’t have to be a ball… he also loves bricks, slabs and rocks too! He will always stick with you if you have one of the above in your hand 🙃
He is the most proud dog, the way he sits with his back so straight and always has to walk right in front of you. But he is also the loudest with his typical bulldog snorts. Like everyone says when I’m out on a walk.. I heard you before I saw you 😆 great with other dogs and children, I cannot fault you Boris 🥰 just as long as you don’t push me over or sit on me then we’re good 😅 you don’t realise your size or weight and you think your some sort of gymnasts sometimes with the positions you end up in, but you simply don’t care as long as you’ve got your ball and your family 💙
Have the best day!

Here’s to all the dog walkers who have had to cancel walks this week.

To the ones living paycheck to paycheck, making the heartbreaking decision to put the welfare of the dogs first — even when rent is due, bills are piling up, and the food shop still needs paying for.

You are my heroes.

I feel incredibly lucky that my main outgoings are my vehicles, because I know for so many others, these weather extremes are hitting hard. And sadly, this is becoming our new normal — wet winters, unbearable spring and summer heat, one extreme after another.

Over the couple of years, so many new dog walkers have started their businesses, stepping into this industry at one of the toughest times imaginable.

The weather hasn’t just affected our income — it’s affected our mental health too. The stress, the uncertainty, the constant worry… it takes its toll.

And on top of all that, the cost of living has risen so dramatically.

Fuel costs, vehicle maintenance, insurance, food prices, rent, mortgages, utilities — everything has gone up, while many of us are earning less because of cancelled walks and unsafe temperatures.

It’s an exhausting balance trying to keep a business afloat while also trying to survive personally. For so many dog walkers, it feels like no matter how hard we work, we’re constantly trying to catch up.

But still, we keep going.

Why?

Because this is more than just a job to us. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a passion. It’s something we pour our whole hearts into every single day.

No matter the weather, no matter the setbacks, we continue showing up because we love these dogs like they’re our own.

So to every dog walker struggling quietly this week — I see you, I respect you, and I hope you’re proud of yourself for putting the dogs first, even when it costs you.
