With the start of men’s premiership football ⚽ just around the corner and our very own FTFC Robins starting their campaign, it’s time to talk nets 🥅. Hedgehogs and nets really do not go together – hedgehogs are inquisitive things, but they have very poor eyesight. If a net is at ground level it’s easy for them to walk into a net. Once they do this they’ll often wriggle around to escape, but this tends to just get them tangled in the net leaving them stuck. The longer they are caught in netting the more likely they are to become dehydrated and exhausted. Even if a hedgehog is rescued from netting and seems OK it may have constriction injuries that will need monitoring for at least a week after it is cut out of netting – so please take the hog to a rescue or to a vet. 🚑

However, the best thing is to make sure that a hedgehog can’t get tangled up in netting by lifting any nets up by 30cm overnight. If you are involved with a sports club or leisure centre that uses netting, please ask them to lift their nets. And please lift your own nets overnight if you have any in your garden. 🙏🦔❤

PS: And please keep putting saucers of water out for our prickly pals - they're really struggling in this hot dry weather.

🦔 RELEASE SUCCESS STORY - Meet Moss! 🦔

8 weeks ago, we received two tiny 4-week-old hoglets found in a Nunney garden alongside a deceased adult hedgehog. Both babies weighed just 120g and were suffering from fly strike with infected wounds.

Sadly, we lost Moss's brother shortly after arrival, but true to his name, Moss proved to be an absolute fighter! 💪

After weeks of dedicated care, treating his wounds, and lots of ups and downs, this little warrior grew, with the help of his foster carer Tracey Rupp Rawlins, from 120g to a brilliant 500g! Last weekend, we were delighted to release him back to his original garden where his journey began.🎉

Stories like Moss's remind us why we do what we do. Every hedgehog deserves a second chance at life in the wild. 🌿

Thank you to everyone who supports our rescue work - without you, stories like Moss's wouldn't be possible! ❤️

Meet this little fighter who's suffering from balloon syndrome - a serious condition where gas builds up under a hedgehog's skin, causing them to inflate like a balloon. It's as painful as it sounds and can be life-threatening without prompt treatment.

This brave hoglet also has a severely infected leg, which is likely the cause of the balloon syndrome. We won't know the full extent of the leg injury until the swelling subsides. He's been to our fantastic vet Garston Vets for deflation treatment, where vet Alice removed over 100ml of air from the little fella, and is now on pain relief and antibiotics whilst he recovers.

Balloon syndrome can be caused by various factors including gas-producing bacteria from infections, trauma, or other underlying conditions. The good news? With proper veterinary care, many hedgehogs make full recoveries.

We'll keep you updated on this little one's progress. Thank you for your continued support in helping us care for hedgehogs in need. Without the support of our community, we really couldn't do it. 🦔💚

UPDATE: All sorted now thanks to Ian Security West Frome 👍

Help! Does anyone had a smartphone handset they could lend us for a week or so?
Our phone is poorly and needs to be sent off for some TLC. Was wondering if anyone had a handset they could lend us for a short while. Doesn't have to be anything fancy - as long as it can take a micro SIM and run WhatsApp. Needed ASAP. Thank you 🙏🦔

We can't express how grateful we are for all the parcels that arrive here. It's not just about receiving vital supplies - although we couldn't do without them - it's about knowing that we have the support of our community. 🦔💚
Every donation, big or small, makes a real difference to the hedgehogs in our care. Your kindness keeps us going!

A huge thank you to our supporter Claire for generously making and donating these wonderful sleeping bags for the hedgehogs in our care! Your kindness means the world to these tiny souls who deserve all the comfort and warmth as they recover and grow.

There's nothing more heartwarming than seeing our toddlers feel safe and secure.

Thank you for caring about our prickly friends! 🦔💕

After a cosy night's B&B with us, we said goodbye to our 'trampoline' hog yesterday!
This beautifully healthy (and very large!) hedgehog clearly didn't need to be in rescue - he was absolutely thriving. 🦔💪

As a special send-off whilst he decided which direction to snuffle off in, our wonderful supporter Aurelia treated him to a bedtime story about a hedgehog! 📚✨

We hope he felt properly spoilt before heading back to the wild. Safe travels, big lad! 🦔💚

🦔 Just when we thought we'd get an early night...The phone rings "There's a hedgehog stuck under our trampoline!"Twenty minutes later, Graham is on his hands and knees, trying to coax out one very large (and very grumpy) hedgehog, watched by the children who discovered the hedgehog and made the phone call.
Hedgehogs are absolute escape artists when it comes to getting INTO tight spots, but seem to lose all their skills when it comes to getting back OUT again. They'll squeeze themselves under trampolines, decking, sheds, garden furniture - you name it, they'll find a way to get properly stuck!🏡
❗❗Garden check reminder: Have a wander round your outdoor space and look for potential hedgehog traps. A few simple adjustments could save a prickly friend (and give us a chance at that elusive early bedtime)!Sweet dreams... hopefully! 😴

We'll be running the tombola stall at the Keyford Village Fete tomorrow (Saturday) outside the Crown to raise much needed funds for our tiny rescue. Please do pop along from 2.30 to 5.00 to say hi and have a go at winning a bottle of booze (or shampoo depending on your luck!). There's even talk our Graham might be baking a few cakes 🧁🍰

A big thank you to everyone that donated a bottle (even if it was the bottle that Uncle Kevin gave you for Christmas 4 years ago that you've been trying to get rid of ever since 😃)
