Today is National Sports Day

If your dog was going to be world champion at any sport, what would it be?
I think for me, our boy Teaser would be a world champion at running, despite his age, he still loves a good zoomies.
As for our little Cookie Monster, it would definitely be football, as a Collie, she loves herding things, so we utilise balls in the correct way to support her emotional needs.

Training tip Thursday!

Did you know that short sharp sessions are the best way to help your dog to learn. We dont need hour after hour.
So, next time you're waiting for a kettle to brew, thats 2 minutes dead time for you to train your dog. Next time you boil water for pasta, thats 5 minutes dead time for you to train your dog.

Don't get caught up in the daily diary that you need to have specific times to train your dog. Utilise everyday moments, capture the training and keep it fun.

Have you been working with dogs long?
Before I even put myself in front of someone else's dog, I spent the best part of 2.5 years studying, attending courses and learning about dogs. Why? Because every single dog is different. Whilst we have some breed specifics, it is important that my understanding is about the dog in front of me at the time, not the breed.
Since qualifying as a dog trainer, I have been working with dogs in total for 7 years now, and I have worked with well over 750 dogs during that time.

Using a settle mat is a great way to give your dog a designated place to lay when you go to the pub, coffee shop or restaurant. Conditioning the settle mat as somewhere for calm time, with lots of good things happening, treats, KONGS and licks mats etc, is a great way to help keep your dog calm in numerous environments.
