So these two brothers have never been able to eat their food together. All because the white dog Harley would guard his food and become aggressive to his brother Bentley or any person. As Harley resource guards and has possession aggression, mostly down to Bentley being very excited and anxious to be everywhere at once and never practices a calm nature. Bentley looks just happy to the untrained eye but he’s hyper and that doesn’t always mean happy. The constant excited energy in turn makes Harley become protective over anything he receives as he fears losing it which made him react aggressively towards anyone including their owner, Harley’s bowl couldn’t even be taken away after food had been eaten.
So to rectify this behaviour with both dogs we have to practice a new ritual which is calm submissive behaviour and both dogs had to be treated the same way with trust and respect before they receive their food which is their most valuable source for their survival. What had been happening was Bentley would be excitable and anxious when he would receive his food, which rewarded him for being that way and when Harley received his food he would then guard it and everyone would back away which rewarded that behaviour. These dogs had been fed apart for about a year and half at this point otherwise there would be quite a nasty fight between the two, so they got separated for meal times and they never learnt the correct behaviour which then snowballed into other problems. The key here was to have both dogs practice the same energy at the same time which is submitting calmly to receive their food (basically working for it) once the pups show the correct behaviour they then get paid. The dogs should always be calm submissive before they get their food so the owner can be number one and the source of where their value for survival comes from. If these siblings can do it when aggression is an issue, 99% of dogs can do just the same. The owner is over the moon that she doesn’t have to give her dogs away now which is a win all round!🥳🙌😁

We’re getting there. Overcoming resource guarding with various objects, with food and the bed for the white pup Harley, and diminishing reactivity to the door bell and other sounds for Bentley, (which always set them both off.) They are getting on really well with their new established behaviours. Great to see and the owners have their lives back with their much loved dogs. The dogs are staying now 😄🥳everyone’s winning!!

This cocker Spanial takes what he wants when he wants and was in need of learning new habits. The dog was getting reactive towards the owners and possessive over anything he takes. this dog is improving and learning quick as there was no way he would allow you to take anything away from him previously which is great!

Loose lead training

22/12/2025

Two working cocker spaniel brothers. The two dogs react off of each other, even more so as they are both litter mates. One is very excited constantly with no off switch the other is also excited and reacts in different ways, one being resource guarding (meaning anything that drops on the floor or he sees laying about, cutlery, tissue, food or anything the dog wants, he takes) their owner can’t get it back from the dog. Which can be dangerous especially if young children are about as the dog could bite a finger off, or can even cause harm to the dog itself if swallow something, it’s a pretty common issue. Within the first session the dogs have gotten the hang of loose lead walks and also paying attention with eye contact. The owner is over the moon as they have had the dogs two years and they have never given eye contact for leadership. Also the resource guarding is getting to the point where the dog practices avoidance or brings the item to the owner. They just needed structure with rules and boundaries and the owner shown how to accomplish that. third session in…. Now the dogs can cope with the vets and ignore the other dogs without reacting. The owner is winning!!😊happy all around! Heading in the right direction.
