Well this isn’t an exercise I’ve done with Lups before, and boy howdy she picked up some speed! She hit it hard, stole it then rolled on it - all in a day’s work I’d say! 🤣

Recently, I realised how fast time flies. Hedwig is 13 now, and I took her out for a slow, mindful walk—just the two of us. We’re all guilty of taking time for granted, we all have busy lives, so if you do have a multidog house, or just the one dog, grab that silver faced beaut, take a moment, just them. It’s a gift we can’t get back.

The hot weather is here for the next few days… and your dog really does not need that hot weather walk. ☀️🐶

If it’s hot for us, it’s even hotter for them — especially when they’re walking on hot pavements.

Instead of pushing through the heat, look at alternatives:
• Early morning walks
• Late evening outings
• Easy scent work around the house
• Brain games and enrichment
• A stuffed Kong or scatter feed
• Or honestly… doing absolutely nothing for a couple of days

It’s ok for dogs to rest. Not every day has to be packed with exercise.

Mental stimulation and relaxation can go a long way, and it’s far safer than risking heat exhaustion just to stick to routine.

And remember… we are in Britain. It’ll probably be snowing next week anyway. 😂

Taking all five dogs out together is actually pretty rare for us!

What makes walks like this possible isn’t trying to train five dogs all at once — it’s all the smaller sessions that happen beforehand.

We’ve spent a lot of time working with the dogs individually, taking them out in smaller groups and learning what helps each dog stay engaged and connected with us out in the world.

Every dog is different. Some need more space, some need more confidence, and some are motivated by completely different things when they’re outside.

By building those skills separately first, it makes group outings like this far more enjoyable and manageable for everyone involved.

It’s easy to watch a clip like this and think the dogs naturally just “know what to do”, but calm group walks are usually built through lots of small successful repetitions over time.

Walking your puppy with your other dogs is important… but so is taking them out on their own.

Solo walks give you the chance to build focus, confidence, and a stronger connection without your puppy relying on the other dogs to respond first. It’s a great way to work on individual behaviours, engagement, and helping your puppy learn to cope with the world independently.

And honestly, sometimes it’s just really nice to enjoy a peaceful walk with just one dog. 🐾

It’s always fascinating watching them play, how they adapt to each others’ styles and how they they interact when there is more than one of them.

If you have a multi-dog household, what’s it like?

It’s not going to last long - but they sure do love it 🙄😅😆

I took Claude on a solo adventure whilst in Hampshire to work on his motivation and focus as he moves into adolescence. With a new environment, we kept management in mind, using a long line and testing different treats and toys. His response was fantastic! Stay tuned for more solo adventures and tips on managing adolescent dogs.

In a multi-dog household, group walks are more than just fun—they’re a chance to teach calm, focus, and connection. In this video, I show how walking all the dogs together builds steady routines and teaches them that sometimes, walks are about shared time that isn’t always revolved around play. How are your dogs when you take them all out?
