One of the best parts of barn life is the incredible community that comes with it. From helping with horses, cheering each other on, lending a hand when needed, and even keeping Coach Taylor's adorable pony-loving kiddo entertained while lessons are running, it truly takes a village.

We are so thankful for our barn family and all of these amazing, supportive humans who work together to make Sprout Meadows such a special place. The horses may bring us together, but it's the people who make this community feel like home.

Today's entertainment? Cali having a blast playing on the hunter boxes in the big sand ring while everyone pitched in to help.

Barn Vacation Closure Reminder

Just a friendly reminder that our school horses and coaches will be taking a well-deserved week off from Monday, June 22 through Monday, June 29.

This scheduled break is built into our annual program to allow our horses time to rest and recharge, while our coaches enjoy some family time and a chance to refresh before the busy summer season.

There will be NO lessons during this period. Regular lessons will resume following the break.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we prioritize the health and wellbeing of both our horses and coaching team. We look forward to seeing everyone back at the barn heading into a fun filled Summer!

Grassroots First. Fundamentals Always.

People often forget that horses age differently than we do.

A 4 year old horse may look grown up physically, but mentally they are more like a young adult just beginning life and learning their career. By 20–22, many horses are more equivalent to humans in their 60s–70s.

That perspective is a huge part of our program.
We take our time with our young horses. One new lesson, one new skill, one new confidence builder at a time. We are never in a rush to “finish” them. Some weeks all we focus on is standing quietly, soft transitions, relaxing in new places, or learning to balance correctly. Strong foundations create confident, long lasting partners.

The goal has never been quick results.
The goal is longevity.

And when our horses reach their senior years, we listen to them just as carefully. Around 20–22, workloads and competitions are greatly reduced, if not retired completely. Many become teachers, trail partners, babysitters for young stock, or simply enjoy slower days being loved and cared for.

Horses give us their whole hearts.

They deserve the time to grow slowly and the grace to age comfortably. ❤️

Orla

Three-year-old mare Orla is now in her second month of light work, with only three short sessions per week. Today marked just the fourth time wearing a saddle and her first time working in the arena with another horse.

This is exactly what we strive for: relaxed, attentive horses that respond softly to body cues through pressure and release—just as horses naturally communicate within the herd.

At this stage, we are not focused on flashy, expressive movement. Our priority is a happy, confident young horse who is relaxed, willing, and eager to learn something new.

Over the past few weeks, while I’ve been away at horse shows, one of our junior riders has been handling Orla’s groundwork and lunging. That alone speaks volumes about her kind temperament and trainable mind.

Safe to say these babies continue to impress us with their amateur-friendly brains, exceptional temperaments, and the scope and power to excel at the highest levels of sport.

We’re already dreaming of the hunter derby ring with this special young lady.
