TIS THE SEASON!

is planning on getting going on this year's Sprout Meadows calendars soon! Please let me know if you would like one (She'll try to make sure you/your child has a photo included in it if she knows you're getting one)

The calendars usually run about $30, but exact pricing will depend on how much printing and shipping ends up costing. The more I order, the less each one costs. She can also make personalized versions if we have enough photos of a specific horse/rider (these might arrive later than the regular ones so she could have them run Feb 2026-Jan 2027 if anyone would like). These will cost more (exact pricing also not known). Let me know if you have any questions!

*Note: The photos will be a higher quality than they're showing up here...these are screenshots of degraded FB photos. Hoping the get them ordered this week so that they arrive by early January, so let me know asap if you'd like to be added to the list :)

Thank you for capturing so many wonderful photos. Here are just a few from the fall.

Why we use focal points, quarter lines, and simple courses in every level of training

At Sprout Meadows, our lessons start with core-activating warm-ups to help riders stabilize their position before we ever pick up the trot. From there, we talk a lot about focal points — choosing a target ahead to keep the horse straight and the rider balanced.

We take that into the quarter line, where riders practice transitions and geometry without relying on the wall. This builds real straightness, real steering, and real awareness.

Then we apply it to poles and a simple course, guiding riders to track accurately to the jump and after the jump. Sometimes we even draw a line in the sand to show exactly where their path needs to go!

Everything ties back to the foundation of good riding:

Track – ride the line you mean
Pace – maintain rhythm and adjustability
Balance – stay centred over your horse

Progressive, purposeful, and aligned with Equine Canada standards.

Dropping and regaining your stirrups isn’t a test to survive—it’s a tool to make you a safer, more balanced, more effective rider.

If you can maintain your position without stirrups, your seat and leg are truly independent. If you can calmly pick them back up, you’re in control of your ride.
Because riders have to be balanced without relying on their irons.

It builds an independent seat, stronger legs, better hip mobility, and the confidence to stay calm if you lose a stirrup unexpectedly.

A safer, more effective rider can ride with or without them — and get them back without looking.

Your hip angle should respond to what the horse is doing —
not the other way around.

If you’re fighting for balance, your hip angle is probably the key.

Our rider assessments + report cards are being handed out this week!

Over the past few months we’ve listened carefully to feedback from our riders and families. One theme was clear: everyone wanted more clarity, direction, and tangible goals to work toward.

So—we built a new rider development program aligned with Equine Canada levels. These report cards break down skills, progress, and next steps specific to each rider’s current level.

We’re excited to give our riders something they can hold, track, and be proud of as they continue their journey with us.

Here’s to growth, confidence, and clear goals moving forward!

Change isn’t always easy, but it’s necessary when we’re committed to growing.

Over the past while, we’ve taken time to listen—truly listen—to the feedback from our riders, families, and team. Your experiences matter, and they help guide us back to the core values Sprout Meadows was built on: safety, learning, kindness, horsemanship, and community.

As we move forward, we’re making thoughtful adjustments to ensure our programs reflect these values every day.

Thank you for being part of this journey and for helping us become better for our riders, our horses, and each other.

Five years ago, we packed up our first home — the place where Sprout Meadows was born — and took a leap of faith. We’d always dreamed of a larger property, somewhere we could grow as a family and expand our vision for an equestrian facility that truly served our community.

When this Dove Creek property came up, it didn’t look like much. A house… an old dairy barn leaning on one side… and a whole lot of work. But we saw potential. We saw what it could be.

And so the real journey began.

With nothing but determination, countless hours of hard work, and more than a few blood-sweat-and-tears moments, Sprout Meadows slowly started to take shape — board by board, fence by fence, arena by arena.

Five years later, our dream is still evolving, still growing, and still coming together piece by piece.

We are beyond grateful to our family, friends, and this community for supporting us every step of the way.

Watching excited riders of all ages come through our gates makes every early morning and late night worth it. We’re honoured to be part of the Comox Valley equestrian community and proud to continue building a place riders can call home.
