🐾 Labour Day Weekend Closure 🐾

The Labour Day long weekend is almost here, and our team will be taking a little break! 🌿

Tsolum Veterinary Hospital will be closed from Friday, September 4th at 5:00pm and will reopen Tuesday, September 8th at 8:30am.

Before the long weekend arrives, please take a moment to check your pet’s food and medications. 🐶🐱

If you’re getting close to running out of anything, please contact us as soon as possible so we have plenty of time to get it prepared for you before we close. We’d much rather have you sorted ahead of the weekend than discovering an empty medication bottle on Saturday morning! 😅

We hope everyone has a safe, relaxing and fun Labour Day weekend! ❤️🐾

💗 Celebrating Dolly Parton! 💗

There was plenty of dancing, singing, and sharing our favourite Dolly stories today. 🎶💕

Ashley especially loved reminiscing about her favourite childhood book, Dolly’s Coat of Many Colors. 📖✨A must read.

A lovely little celebration of an icon who has brought so much music, kindness, humour, and heart to so many generations. 💗🎸

🦇 Rabies Awareness: Protect Your Pets, Respect Our Bats 🐈‍⬛🐕

Keeping your pets up to date on their rabies vaccination is incredibly important — especially when curious cats and dogs occasionally come into contact with bats.

If your cat catches a bat, having a current rabies vaccination provides important protection and can significantly change what is required after a potential exposure.

If you find a bat that may need rabies testing:

* Wear gloves and never handle it with bare hands
* Keep the bat contained, if it is safe to do so
* Do not damage the bat, particularly the head, as this may prevent rabies testing
* Call us and we can help guide you through the next steps

Bats are fascinating, valuable members of our ecosystem and they do not need to be feared. Rabies is the disease we need to respect and protect against.

Education, vaccination and safe handling are our best tools. 🦇❤️

Thank you to MARS Wildlife Rescue Centre for continuing to educate our community about these important little creature!

Did you know that the sooner you start socializing and exposing your puppy to the world, the better? The first few months of your puppy’s life are the most impressionable and important. What your puppy does—or doesn’t—experience before 12–16 weeks can lead to behaviour problems in the future, or go a long way toward preventing them. Early, positive socialization is the most effective way to prevent fear, anxiety, reactivity, excitability, and aggression before they start, setting the foundation for lifelong confidence and a well-adjusted dog.

Have you heard that you should wait until your puppy is fully vaccinated before starting socialization? Don’t wait! Experts agree that early, controlled socialization—starting with the breeder and continuing with exposure to the world and socialization with other puppies and dogs just one week after their first vaccination—is essential. The benefits far outweigh the minimal risks.

Senior pets hold a special place in our hearts. ❤️ As they age, their health needs can change, and regular wellness testing can help us catch concerns early sometimes before you notice any changes at home.

Ask us about our Senior Wellness Blood & Urine Panels and how they can help us monitor your pet’s health and keep them feeling their best through their golden years. 🐾

I believe every senior dog deserves a life filled with purpose, connection, and joy. That's why I focus on four pillars: physical wellness, nutrition, emotional connection, and cognitive functioning. 🐾🧠

Longevity isn't just about adding years to your dog's life. It's about adding life to your dog's years.

⬇️ To learn more about each of these pillars and how to support your senior dog's wellbeing, read my latest blog post through the link in the comments. 📖

We hope you all had a relaxing break this weekend. Please note our slightly different opening hours this week.
