Island Tides Veterinary Hospital is still the same locally-owned veterinary practice with Fear Free trained professionals; only now, we have a new look. 😍

A veterinary clinic in Campbell River had a bat test positive for Rabies virus recently. Although the number of bats that carry Rabies has not been on the rise, it is very important to remain aware that bats do carry the deadly virus.

To keep yourself and others safe:

- ensure your pets' Rabies vaccines are up to date.

- never handle a bat.

- if your pet comes in contact with a bat, contact your veterinarian for guidance.

- if you are in contact with a bat, please contact your local health authority.

⚠️ A case of rabies has been confirmed locally.

While rabies in our area is uncommon, this is an important reminder to make sure your pets are protected.

💉 Check that your pet’s rabies vaccination is up to date.

🦇 If you find a bat, do not touch it with bare hands and keep pets away from it once discovered.

⚠️ If your pet catches, mouths, is bitten or scratched by, or has any other direct contact with a bat, contact your veterinarian immediately — even if you don't see an obvious wound.

If you're unsure whether your pet's rabies vaccination is current, give us a call and we can check their records.

On ⭐ Wednesday August 19, 2026 ⭐ Island Tides will be closing early at 12pm for a little time away so we can come back even better!

We’re taking the afternoon off on August 19 for a team-building event. We’ll be spending some time connecting as a team, sharing ideas, and making plans for how we can continue to improve the experience for our clients and the pets we care for.

Thanks for your understanding while our team takes some time to learn, grow, and have a little fun together!

** Please note – Existing appointments/procedures on the 19th will not be affected and your pet is still our priority

We hope you have a fun and safe long weekend!

TRIGGER WARNING

FOUND female cat, deceased.
Sadly, one of our teammates has found a deceased cat this morning on the side of Coleman Rd, between Loxley and Hardey Rd. Her remains are safe with us. If you are missing a small female brown tabby shorthair cat, please call us 778-647-4884.
Pictures of her for id purposes are available. She does not have microchip or tattoo. Our thoughts are with the person/family whose cat this is. ❤️ 🌈

It's true! 🎉

Many of you have been asking about Dr. Krista, and we're excited to share that she is returning to Island Tides from her maternity leave for occasional shifts this summer and will be back to a regular schedule in early Fall 2026!

As one of our founding veterinarians and co-owners of Island Tides, we've all missed having Dr. Krista Huxham around the clinic and we're thrilled that she's beginning her return. She has been on maternity leave since Fall 2025 and enjoying precious time with her growing family.

Keep an eye out for Dr. Krista around the clinic this summer and watch for more information as she resumes her regular schedule this fall.

Please join us in giving her a warm welcome back! 🥰
