Today’s extreme temperatures put all pets at risk — dogs and cats. Keep them indoors where it’s cool, avoid outdoor exercise, and make sure they have plenty of fresh water throughout the day. Hot footpaths can burn paws in seconds, and heat stress can escalate quickly.

Even on a mild day, a parked car becomes deadly fast. In today’s heat, car temperatures can climb past 50°C in just 30 minutes. Never leave pets in the car — not even for a minute.

After the Storm: Helping Your Pets Feel Safe Again

The hail may have passed, but for many pets, the storm isn’t over yet. Loud thunder, flashing lights, and sudden changes in pressure can leave dogs and cats anxious long after the skies have cleared.

If your pet’s pacing, trembling, hiding under furniture, or refusing to eat; they’re not being “dramatic.” They’re simply processing fear the only way they know how.

Here’s how you can help them recover tonight (and prepare for next time):

𝟭. 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗺.
Pets look to us for cues. If you act normal and relaxed, they’ll slowly mirror your energy. Offer quiet reassurance without over-coddling.

2. 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀.
Soft music, white noise, or even a TV left on low can mask the echoes of thunder and hail still rumbling in the distance.

3. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘇𝗼𝗻𝗲.
A covered crate, favourite blanket, or a dark corner of the wardrobe can become a safe retreat. Let them choose where they feel most secure.

4. 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆.
Dinner, walk, bedtime; predictability rebuilds confidence. Resume normal routines as soon as possible to signal safety.

5. 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝗳 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴.
Some pets develop storm phobia; a real anxiety disorder that can worsen over time. If your pet hides at the first sound of rain or becomes destructive, we can help with calming aids, training plans, or medication when needed.

Tonight, take it slow. Offer patience, warmth, and time.
And remember; you’re not alone in caring for them.

🐍 Brisbane 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫: 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐒𝐧𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞

Last week was very tense for our teams at MustCare Windaroo Vet and Compton Road Vet; several pets were rushed in after crossing paths with snakes.

Every single one survived, but each case was a reminder of how quickly things can change in the heat of a Queensland summer.

Snakes are part of this land; they slip through long grass and seek out cool, damp corners when the weather turns fierce. We can’t keep them out entirely, but we can stay watchful.

If your pet suddenly seems “off”, trust your instinct.

Common early signs of a snake bite include:

🐾 Weakness or unsteady walking
🐾 Shaking or trembling
🐾 Drooling or vomiting
🐾 Dilated pupils or glassy eyes
🐾 Rapid or heavy breathing
🐾 Swelling or unusual pain

Even small changes can mean something serious so don’t wait. Keep your pet calm and get to your nearest vet straight away.

🌿 Trim the grass, tidy shaded spots, and bring outdoor water bowls inside - snakes come for the same things we all do: shade and water.

Meet Roxy - she’s all smiles after her suture removal today! 🐶✨

Recheck appointments like this might seem small, but they play a big role in keeping pets healthy.
These visits help us make sure wounds are healing properly, there’s no infection or irritation, and your pet is feeling their best again.

It’s also our chance to celebrate recovery and sneak in a few cuddles, of course. 🧡

Our team ran a few diagnostic checks right here in the clinic to help us understand what was happening and how best to care for him.

🐾 Roxy’s Day at MustCare Mt Gravatt 🐾

Roxy, a 7-year-old Mini Foxy x Chihuahua, came in for an important procedure today. She’s tiny but brave, the kind of girl who watches the world carefully before deciding who’s safe.

Nurse Jannaya sat with her for a while before we began; quiet words, soft pats, a steady heartbeat that said you’re okay now. Sometimes that’s what healing begins with; not medicine, but trust.

We’re all pet owners too - we know that mix of love and worry when your best friend needs care. That’s why we do everything we can to make them feel safe, calm, and loved.

🦷 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗲’𝘀 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 🦷

At 13 years old, Charlie the Tibetan Spaniel has seen and done a lot but today’s visit was all about something hidden: his teeth.

Charlie came in for a Grade 4 dental, which meant there was more than just plaque to deal with. His gums and teeth needed serious attention, the kind that goes beyond a quick clean.

Thanks to the care of our team, Charlie’s painful teeth were treated, leaving him far more comfortable for the years ahead. It’s moments like these that remind us; pets don’t always show their pain, but that doesn’t mean they’re not feeling it.
