And here's another Frenchie getting some post-op cuddles from Dr Sam 🐶🧡

BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) can make life tough for our short-nosed friends, but at Southern Cross Vet we do things a little differently. Our BOAS surgeries are bespoke — we only do what your pet actually needs, never more. Every step is tailored to them, with every precaution taken to make their surgery as safe and comfortable as possible.

Our approach is minimally invasive, so there is no bruising or bleeding, recovery is quick and your pet walks home the very same day. **No overnight stays**, just a happier, more comfortable pup ready for more cuddles. We also have a veterinary anaesthetist monitoring their vitals throughout the surgery, so you know they are in the best hands.

Urgent: Two lost birds in our care handed in to us by different people.

Hi everyone,

We have 2 (TWO) Bourke parrots that have been handed in to our clinic at St Peters today. They were brought in by different people but we think they might be from the same family. Can you please help us in reuniting them with their humans?

If you recognise these beautiful birds, or know how the owners are, please call us at (02) 9516 0234.

Thanks a lot everyone!

PS- Proof of ownership required when you come to collect them.

What a joy it was to have the lovely Mocha visit Southern Cross Vet last week for her Laparoscopic Spay! Our team gave her all the love and care she deserves, making sure she felt right at home. 🧡

At Southern Cross Vet, we’re passionate about providing your pets with the best care possible, and that’s why we offer laparoscopic spaying, a minimally invasive way to desex female dogs. Unlike traditional spaying, lap spays use smaller incisions, which means less bruising, minimal bleeding, and a much quicker recovery time for your furry friend.

We use cutting-edge equipment to ensure every procedure is precise and gentle, keeping your pet’s comfort first. This approach helps your dog bounce back faster, so they can get back to wagging their tail in no time! 🐾

We’re proud to offer minimally invasive surgeries like this, always striving to make a difference in your pet’s health and happiness. 💯

Pets on planes?✈️

Thinking about taking your pet on a flight? 🛫 You might be wondering how they actually cope in the cabin.

Dr Sam spoke to the Sydney Morning Herald about what air travel feels like for dogs and cats — and it’s more similar to us humans than you might think. Just like us, they can feel that ear “pop” from changes in cabin pressure, and while we can chew gum or yawn, our pets can’t exactly do the same.

In the article, Dr Sam shares some simple tips to help make their journey more comfortable — from special dog earmuffs to why a chew toy can be a game changer. He also touches on motion sickness in pets, and how a little TLC from their favourite person can make all the difference 🧡

Happy International Cat Day from all of us at Southern Cross Vet! 🐱🧡

Today, we’re celebrating not just the cats we love at home, but also those who’ve left their paw prints on Australian history.

Did you know that during the early 20th century, cats played an important role in keeping pests under control at some of Sydney’s most iconic locations — including Circular Quay and even the Sydney Harbour Bridge construction site?

These hard-working felines were often unofficially adopted by workers and ferry crews, offering both companionship and a practical solution to rodent problems. Some even became local mascots and were known by name. They were fed by many and fondly remembered long after they were gone.

So today, on International Cat Day, we honour all the cats who’ve made life a little brighter, whether they’re curled up on our laps or prowling through the pages of history 🧡

Have you ever seen a better pose than Mia's? We can’t stop smiling at these photos from her visit last week 🧡

Mia came in for her laparoscopic spay and got plenty of cuddles and care from our whole team, including some special one-on-one time with our nurse Cami, who did her absolute best to match Mia’s bouncy energy! 🐶

At Southern Cross Vet, we highly recommend lap spays (or LOVE spays, as we sometimes call them). LOVE stands for Laparoscopic Ovariectomy – a minimally invasive procedure that means less pain and a smoother recovery for your pet compared to traditional spaying.

We’re proud to be known for our expertise in minimally invasive surgeries like this one. If you're curious to learn more, check out our laparoscopic desexing info here:

Meet Charlie 🐶 — one of the newest members of the SCV family!

Vaccinations are such an important part of keeping our fur babies safe from some pretty nasty (and potentially life-threatening) diseases. Core vaccines like C3 help protect against distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus. We also offer protection against kennel cough with vaccines for parainfluenza and bordetella bronchiseptica. These are especially important if your pup’s a social butterfly at the dog park or heading into boarding.

And for our inner-city pets (especially those who love sniffing around parks or laneways), we recommend the leptospirosis vaccine. It protects against a disease spread by rats, rodents and contaminated water.

Prefer a tailored approach? You can also consider a Titre Test to check your pet’s immunity levels for core C3 diseases. This way, boosters are only given when needed 🧡

Got questions? Give us a call on 1300 DOC SAM or book online at https://scvet.com.au/book. We’re always here to help!
