Patients of the week:

Kaze our vibrant black headed caique was here for medical boarding this week. During her stay she received twice daily medications, daily weight checks, hydration and food needs. Sora the white bellied caique was alongside her sister providing love and support. They both cheered the staff up with their cheerful sounds and daily antics.

Summer is just around the corner, and with the warm weather comes a sharp increase in cats and dogs presenting to the vet with skin and ear problems.

In fact, skin and ear issues are the among the most common reasons dogs and cats visit the vet—and without proper diagnosis, they can quickly become painful, chronic issues that are harder (and more expensive) to treat.

For the month of December, we will be offering 50% skin and ear cytology for dogs and cats at The Wild Vet!

Cytology is the collection and study of cells. It is the fastest and most accurate way to identify the source of skin or ear irritation and allows us to create a tailored treatment plan to get your little bestie feeling a lot more comfortable.

If your pet is experiencing red or inflamed skin, smelly or itchy ears, chronic skin or ear infection, hair loss, scabs, flaky or greasy skin, or is frequently licking or chewing their paws or shaking their head, it could be a sign that they're in some pretty serious discomfort.

Patient of the Week: Patrone 🐾
Handsome Patrone has had a very tough week. He came in with a severe urinary blockage — a painful, life-threatening condition that can quickly become an emergency.

Patrone has been blocked several times in the past so the owner opted for a perineal urethrostomy (PU) surgery. This procedure creates a new, wider opening for him to urinate through, helping prevent future blockages and keeping him more comfortable long-term.

Hes been such a brave and happy boy throughout giving headbutts and making biscuits for everyone ☺️

Reminder: Straining in the litter tray, crying when trying to urinate, or only passing tiny dribbles are all signs to seek vet care urgently. Blockages can become serious very fast.

Meet The Team Tuesday!

It's a very special edition this week as we introduce The Wild Vet herself to those who may not yet know her.

Dr Emma Hall has over 15 years of experience in bird and reptile keeping and has worked at a number of small animal and exotic clinics around Australia since graduating in 2016. In 2020, she decided to pursue her dream of running her own veterinary clinic where exotics and wildlife receive the same standard of care as cats and dogs, and The Wild Vet clinic was born!

We asked the team what makes Dr Emma such a good vet (and boss!), and they said

- She is a wonderful mentor, she's extremely supportive and loves to teach what she knows

- When someone achieves something new, she always acknowledges it and shouts that person out to the team. She's our cheerleader.

- The amount of technical and medical information that she keeps in her head is actually incredible; her brain should be studied!

- She always has our backs; she doesn't let her staff be treated poorly.

- She's fun to be around and can always lighten the mood!!

We're fortunate to have a boss who is so inspiring, supportive, and incredibly gifted as a veterinarian.

Patient of the Week: Nugget the Indian Ringneck 🩵
Nugget came to us after accidentally eating Panadol, which can cause potential kidney/liver issues. He was quickly treated and monitored closely by our team. We’re happy to report that Nugget is now feeling much better! 💚

This is a great reminder to keep all medications safely out of reach of pets — even small amounts of human meds can be dangerous for birds, cats, dogs, and other animals. Store them in a drawer, cupboard, or locked away to keep curious beaks, paws, and noses safe! 🗄️🔒💚
