Pyometra spey: not your average desexing surgery! 💛

This surgery was performed by Dr. Alex, on Rico, who had pyometra—a serious infection of the uterus that can occur in entire female dogs.

Pyometra can make dogs very unwell, with symptoms including lethargy, vomiting, reduced appetite, increased drinking, vaginal discharge, or sometimes no obvious discharge at all.

Treatment usually involves surgery to remove the infected uterus and ovaries. This procedure is much more complex than a routine spey because the infected uterus becomes enlarged, fragile, and at risk of rupturing. Desexing your female dog is a way to prevent pyometra.

The best part of Rico’s story? She recovered beautifully and is now doing really well! 🐾

💛 We are so happy Rico is getting back to life as usual and wish her the best in the rest of her recovery. She was such a brave and sweet patient, and clearly loved by all of her family!

🐾 One month of love with Mario! 💙

Just one month ago, sweet little Mario found his forever home with Carolyn, and it’s safe to say he’s settled in beautifully. From playful pounces to cuddle time on the couch, this adorable kitten certainly looks like he is thriving and bringing so much joy every day.

Watching rescue pets blossom in their new homes is one of the greatest rewards. Wishing Mario and Carolyn many happy, healthy adventures together! 🐱❤️
