🦷🐾 Fresh Breath, Healthier Smiles with Oxyfresh! 🐾🦷

Does your pet have a little bit of… dragon breath? 🐉😷

Bad breath isn’t just unpleasant — it can be one of the first signs that plaque, tartar and bacteria are building up in your pet’s mouth.

That’s why we love making home dental care as easy as possible, and Oxyfresh can be a great addition to your pet’s dental routine. 🐶🐱

💧 Easy to use – simply add the recommended amount to your pet’s drinking water
🦷 Helps support everyday oral hygiene
✨ Helps keep breath fresher
🐾 A handy option for pets who aren’t enthusiastic about having their teeth brushed!

While water additives can be a useful part of home dental care, they don’t replace regular dental checks or professional dental treatment when needed. Brushing with a pet-safe toothpaste remains one of the best ways to mechanically remove plaque at home.

👀 Keep an eye out for signs of dental disease:
• Bad breath
• Yellow or brown tartar
• Red, swollen or bleeding gums
• Dropping food or difficulty eating
• Chewing on one side
• Pawing or rubbing at the mouth
• Reluctance to eat harder foods

🐾 Not sure what’s happening inside your pet’s mouth?

🦷✨ Book a FREE 5-minute dental check with our team! ✨🦷

We can have a quick look at your pet’s teeth and gums, discuss any concerns we find and help you work out the best next step for their dental care.

It’s also a great opportunity to chat about home dental-care options, including Oxyfresh, and find a routine that works for you and your pet.

Because fresh breath is lovely… but a healthy, pain-free mouth is even better! 💙🐾

Jumping into Monday!

Here are some fun dog facts!

1. Dogs dream during REM sleep, just like people. You might see their paws twitch or hear little barks while they sleep.
2. A wagging tail doesn’t always mean a dog is happy.
3. Puppies are born deaf and blind, and their hearing develops over the first few weeks of life.

🦷 August is Dental Month at Aura Veterinary Hospital! 🐶🐱

Did you know that around 80% of dogs and 70% of cats over the age of 3 have some degree of dental disease? Unfortunately, many pets suffer in silence because they instinctively hide signs of pain.

Dental disease is much more than bad breath. It is a painful, progressive condition that can lead to:
🦷 Painful gums and loose teeth
🦷 Difficulty eating and chewing
🦷 Tooth root infections and abscesses
🦷 Chronic inflammation
🦷 Bacteria entering the bloodstream, potentially affecting the heart, liver and kidneys

The good news? Dental disease is largely preventable with regular home care and routine veterinary dental checks.

This August we’re making it easier to stay on top of your pet’s oral health!

✨ FREE 5-minute dental checks with one of our experienced nurses.
✨ $20 OFF all Hill’s Prescription Diet t/d and Hill’s Science Diet Oral Care foods, specially formulated to help reduce plaque and tartar while your pet eats.

Our 5 minute free dental checks can help identify early signs of dental disease and determine whether your pet would benefit from a professional dental scale and polish or changes to their home dental routine.

Remember, bad breath isn’t normal—it’s often one of the first signs of dental disease.

📞 Call Aura Veterinary Hospital today to book your pet’s FREE dental check and give them something to smile about! 🐾🦷

🐾🌿 Did you know our very own Mark is also a volunteer at the Montville Tourist Information Centre? 🌿🐾

We happened to catch him on duty recently, sharing some expert local knowledge with a very special visitor… 🐶💙

Meet Romi, our four-legged tourist, who stopped by to get the inside scoop on the best dog-friendly walks around the beautiful Montville region. Safe to say Mark had plenty of recommendations! 🥾🌳

Whether he’s helping pets and their families at Aura Veterinary Hospital or pointing visitors towards the best local adventures, Mark is always happy to lend a hand (and maybe sneak in a pat or two! 😉).

Thanks, Mark, for being such a wonderful ambassador for our community—and thanks to Romi for stopping in for a paws-itively adorable consultation! 🐾❤️

📸 Have you explored Montville with your dog? We’d love to hear your favourite dog-friendly spots in the comments below!

🐦 H5N1 (Bird Flu) Information Update

This post is intended to inform our community, not create panic.

You may have seen recent news about H5N1 High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (Bird Flu). We now have increased focus on surveillance and biosecurity due to the global spread of the disease.

At Aura Veterinary Hospital, we’re committed to keeping our patients, clients, staff and local wildlife safe while providing you with the latest advice.

🦜 What should you do if you find a sick or dead wild bird?

If you come across a bird that appears unwell or has died:

❌ Do not touch, move or transport the bird unless absolutely necessary.

📍 If it is safe to do so:
• Note the location.
• Take a photo from a distance if possible.
• Observe any signs such as difficulty breathing, inability to stand, tremors or multiple sick/dead birds in one area.

📞 Report sick or dead wild birds to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888 for advice.

Remember, not every sick bird has bird flu. Birds can become ill or injured for many different reasons, but reporting unusual cases helps protect Australia’s wildlife and poultry industries.

🐓 How can you keep your pet birds and backyard chickens safe?

✔️ Minimise contact with wild birds.
✔️ Keep food and water covered so wild birds cannot access it.
✔️ Clean food bowls, drinkers and enclosures regularly.
✔️ Wash your hands before and after handling your birds.
✔️ Isolate any bird that suddenly becomes sick.
✔️ Contact your veterinarian before bringing your bird to the clinic.

To help protect all of our patients and staff, please do not bring sick wild birds directly into the hospital.

Instead:

📞 Call us before you arrive.

Our team will:
✅ Discuss your bird’s history and clinical signs.
✅ Determine whether the bird requires veterinary care or should be reported to the appropriate authorities.
✅ Advise you on the safest way to transport the bird if needed.
✅ Arrange a safe entry plan where appropriate to minimise any biosecurity risk.

This procedure helps protect:
❤️ Your pets
❤️ Other hospital patients
❤️ Our staff
❤️ Local wildlife

Thank you for helping us keep our community safe while continuing to care for Australia’s incredible wildlife.

If you have any questions or concerns about a sick bird, please don’t hesitate to contact the Aura Veterinary Hospital team. We’re here to help. 🩵
