Exciting news! Duynevet has massively leveled up our dental care with the addition of a brand new dental radiography unit.
Dental radiographs massively improve the safety and quality of dental care. In fact, in many countries, it is considered unfathomable for vets to practice dentistry without it. In South Africa, relatively few practices, apart from referral hospitals, offer dental radiography. Duynevet is proud to be one of the general practitioners to now also offer this service.
Dental radiographs are considered essential because most dental pathology happens where we can't see it: under the gum line or inside the tooth. By the time pathology becomes visible, it is usually already very advanced.
Animals can not speak. They can not tell us if and where they have a toothache. Dental radiographs help us to find sources of pain that would otherwise have been invisible.
The most common dental disease we see in dogs is periodontal disease, which is where bacteria starts to eat away at the tissues around the teeth - including the bone of the jaws! Dental radiographs helps us to pick up this bone destruction and fix it before it is too late.
Another important advantage of dental radiographs, is that it helps us to ensure we can extract teeth safely. It will show us if the teeth have abnormal anatomy that may necessitate a different approach. It will also help us ensure that there are no root remnants left behind, or other complications that would otherwise have gone unnoticed until they start causing problems later.
This means that we can now perform more complicated dental procedures safely, without the need to refer to specialists. This will be very beneficial for the pets in our community.
Thank you for your continued support, we look forward to providing your pets with the dental care they truly deserve!
