Whether your cat is a backyard adventurer or an indoor nap-champion they all need protection against parasites!

Fleas: Summer holidays mean warm weather, open doors, visitors and lots of movement — perfect for fleas. Even indoor cats can be exposed: flea eggs and larvae hitchhike in on shoes, clothing, blankets or visiting pets. Once inside, flea pupae can sit hidden in carpets and bedding for weeks to months, hatching when triggered by vibration, warmth or CO₂.

Ticks: Whether your cat is sunbathing in the garden, exploring boundary walls or visiting shared outdoor areas, ticks can easily latch on. They wait on grass and shrubs for a host to pass and may cause irritation or transmit certain tick-borne diseases.

Worms: Worm eggs are microscopic and long-lasting in the environment. Cats become infected by grooming contaminated paws, using outdoor areas, or catching prey. Year-round parasite prevention keeps your cat healthy.

Heading out this festive season? 🎄🐾
If your cat is going to a cattery, now is the time to start preparing.

✔️ Book early
December and January are the busiest months for catteries. Many fill up weeks in advance, so secure your spot as soon as possible.

✔️ Choose reputable, cat-focused facilities
Look for clean, calm, well-ventilated environments with separate cat areas, good reviews, trained staff, and clear policies. Always read the fine print — requirements differ between facilities.

✔️ Check what your chosen cattery requires
Most reputable catteries will ask for:
• Up-to-date cat vaccinations
• Flea, tick and worm control
• Any medical or feeding instructions in writing
Some catteries may require an additional vaccine for extra protection against “snuffles” — a group of infectious upper-respiratory diseases that can affect your cat’s eyes, nose and breathing.

✔️ Why this matters
Holiday movement, fully booked catteries and increased contact with other cats mean a higher risk of spreading respiratory infections and gastrointestinal diseases. Ensuring your cat’s vaccinations are current keeps them protected and helps prevent outbreaks in shared environments.

Not sure if your cat’s vaccinations are due? Reach out to our reception team at 021 686 6851, we are here to help! 💚🐾
