Dr. Arnold Mahne BVSc(Hons) MMedVet(Chir)(Eq), a Veterinary Specialist in Equine Surgery, graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Pretoria, Onderstepoort, in 2005. After 3 years in private practice he returned to Onderstepoort to specialise in Equine Surgery. He obtained his BVSc(Hons

) degree in 2011. In 2013 he was awarded an MMedVet in Equine Surgery. Ever since he has been practising as a SAVC registered specialist equine surgeon. He was employed by the University of Pretoria as senior lecturer until 2016, during which period he was also the Equine Section head. In 2016 he located to Cape Town to join Baker & McVeigh – he was the senior surgeon at the Cape Town branch until April 2021. In May 2021 he founded EQUISPES Clinical Services.

🎉 FIVE YEARS OF EQUISPES! 🐴🌧️
Time flies when you’re doing what you love — even faster when you’re dodging Cape Town’s sideways rain, gale-force winds, and trying to keep horses clean for longer than 5 minutes! 😅
This month marks the 5th birthday of Equispes Clinical Services, founded in May 2021. What an incredible journey it’s been — from early mornings and emergency call-outs to unforgettable horses, wonderful clients, and plenty of weather adventures along the way.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the practice over the past five years. Your trust, support, and love for your horses mean the world to us. Here’s to many more years of muddy boots, happy horses, and surviving Cape Town winters together! 🎉🐎

As we rein in the end of the year, and we trot into the holidays, we extend our heartfelt thanks for your trust and support throughout the year. We wish you — and your equine companions — a safe, restful, and joyful break. 🐴✨
Please note that our practice will be closed from 12 December and will reopen on 5 January.

In the case of an emergency please contact Wellington Animal Hospital on 021 873 1196 during the day or 0721156926 after hours.

Thank you for letting us be part of your horses’ care this year. We wish you and your four-legged partners a season filled with calm rides, happy hoofbeats, and well-deserved rest. 🌾🎄

Equispes is thrilled to welcome Chantal Breytenbach to our team! 🤎

Apart from keeping things running smoothly in the office, Chantal will also be assisting with procedures at the yards — bringing her passion and hands-on experience straight to where it matters most.

Chantal has an impressive background with horses: she started riding at just 5 years old and began competing in Equestrian Tentpegging at 10, competing at National level competitions. Her experience doesn’t stop there — she’s also managed stable yards and taught at riding schools, guiding riders from beginners to intermediate levels in all aspects of riding, safety, and horse care.

We’re excited to have her energy, knowledge, and love for horses join our growing herd! 🐎💫
