Please welcome Sabrina to the BlackDog team, joining us an Assistant Trainer!

Sabrina comes to the team from a background rooted in animal shelter work, where she gained hands-on experience working with dogs of all temperaments and behavioral challenges. She believes that every dog is an individual, and approaches each case with patience, compassion, and respect for both the dog and their human family. Her training philosophy is completely force-free, focusing on building trust, communication, and lasting behavior change through positive reinforcement. She is currently pursuing the Karen Pryor Academy Canine Behavior Consultant certification to continue expanding her knowledge and providing the highest standard of care to the dogs and clients she works with.

Sabrina will be supporting our onsite daycation and board and train programs in Wilmington, with private client availability to be opened in the summer!

🎊🍾🎉🥳 NEW TEAM MEMBER!

Join us in welcoming Rachel Jastrebski, CPDT-KA, FFCT to the team! She will be taking over as our trainer onsite at our location and providing private in-home services through the Delaware beaches starting July 13th!

Rachel has been working with animals professionally for 15 years and has been training dogs for over a decade. Her career spans across many different aspects of animal welfare including daycare, boarding, veterinary care, and shelter/rescue work. Rachel is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers and Fear Free Certified Professional through Fear Free Pets.

Rachel loves all aspects of dog training but has a special place in her heart for scared, fearful, and reactive dogs. Her goal as a dog trainer is to strengthen the trust and bond between dogs and those who love and care for them. One of her other favorite training subjects to work on is cooperative care, a training approach where dogs become willing, active participants in their own grooming and medical care.

Rachel is currently pursuing a Masters in Nonprofit Leadership and Management and loves spending her free time with her 2 cats, Samheim and Pilgrim, and her dog, Scooby. She loves making art and watching any kind of documentary she can find.

✨A picture perfect Mother's Day reunion 🥹✨

Ryder's 4 week board & train has wrapped up, and we couldn't be MORE PROUD. We made sure her last morning at the BlackDog house was full of play, snacks, and cuddles. She absolutely KILLED it at her pickup lesson with mom, and showed off everything she's learned, including: loose leash walking, recall, patience at thresholds, and most importantly making good choices when she's excited 🥹

The whole team is going to miss her so much, so thank goodness we have our in-home follow ups to check in on her progress!

We are currently hiring for 1 to 2 part-time independent contractor position, more hours available depending on client intake! We are in need of a trainer at both our Wilmington, DE and Georgetown, DE (Farmhouse Pet Lodge) locations! Opportunity for two separate roles or hybrid role.

✨The Details✨

▪️Private training clients: Puppies, basics, and behavior modification. Must be willing to drive to in-home sessions, provide virtual training, as well as travel to our training facility for onsite services.

▪️Facility services: Assist with afternoon training sessions for board and train and daycation (day training drop-off clients). Facilitate evening pick-ups for daycation clients. Perform evening care duties for board and train dogs (walks/potty, feeding, meds, and spot cleaning).

▪️Opportunity to take board and train dogs into your own home, if your living situation and experience allows

🎉NEW TRAINER ALERT!!!!!! 🎉 BlackDog is welcoming Elsie Murrell, CPDT-KA .house to the team 🐶

Elsie has worked with dogs since 2017, starting in daycares where her passion for canine behavior took root. With nearly a decade of dog experience, her empathetic approach shines through. Elsie is a certified professional dog trainer, knowledge assessed (CPDT-KA) through the Certification Council of Pet Dog Trainers.

Her background as a classically trained ballerina adds grace, timing, and body awareness that enhance her ability to read dogs effectively. When she's not working with animals, you can find her hunting for thrifted treasure or in an open ballet class.
Elsie will be supporting our growing Daycation & Board and Train programs throughout the week, with private client availability for puppies, adolescent and adult basics, and dog-to-dog reactivity on Sundays and Wednesdays.

We are already so thrilled to have her on board, and the dogs are too 😉

See, Mark, & Reward Training is sneaky effective. One day you’re just noticing and treating good behavior, but before you know it, your puppy is evolving beyond their mischievous ways (don’t worry, they’ll still be plenty goofy) and offering really convenient behaviors.

Capturing your dog’s good behaviors really adds up. The hard part is staying present enough to notice all the awesome things your dog is doing. Try rewarding these 5 skills, and see where they take you!

P.S. This style of training is appropriate for recent rescues and foster dogs as it’s very low key and a gentle method for encouraging good behavior.

Lets hear it for our newest (and cutest) Daycationer, Theory!

Theory is a 4 month old German Shepherd who is enrolled in our 8 week standard Daycation package! He will be working on building strong foundations for loose leash walking, overall basic manners, and socialization / politeness with people and other dogs.

Today he worked hard on marker recognition, name recognition, recall foundations, loose leash walking foundations, dog neutrality, and drop/trade skills. Follow along to see how Theory progresses!
