❄️🐾 Snow Is Coming! Let's Protect Our Community Cats 🐾❄️

With an upcoming snowstorm in the forecast, now is the time for colony caretakers to prepare. Outdoor cats are resilient, but they depend on us to help them weather extreme conditions safely.
According to best practices from Alley Cat Allies, here's how you can get ready:

🐱 Shelter Prep
Use straw - NOT blankets - inside shelters. Straw repels moisture and allows cats to burrow for warmth.
Make sure shelters are elevated off the ground on pallets or bricks to prevent flooding and freezing.

🥣 Food & Water
Increase food portions before and during the storm - especially wet food, which helps cats conserve energy.
Use deep, dark-colored bowls in sunny spots or heated bowls to prevent water from freezing.

🚫 Safety First
Clear snow from shelter entrances immediately so cats aren't trapped.
Never use salt or chemical ice melt products near colonies - they are toxic to paws and can be fatal if ingested.
Tap on your car hood before starting your engine - cats may climb inside for warmth.

🚨While we are currently out of outdoor cat houses, we DO have straw available for colony caretakers.🚨
